Love the way Lakey goes about it! If that overrated pile of shit can eke out 10 years overs at drug cheats than here's hoping Big Brian can go another few! Can't believe that he is a Two time Premiership player for us in the two years his been with us! Always rated him the best FB even at the Doggies and wanted him at the Hawks!! The Big Bad Bear!

This was one of my favourite moments of last years GF.
The old fashioned "making him earn it".
I'd like to polish the back of Buddy's head with my elbow but I'd get arrested.
So, I'd like to thank Brian on behalf of myself and any other Hawks supporters who feel the same way for getting the job done.

Yep, didn't Spang give Budd a work over too in one contest?

Apropo of nothing, remember the 09 prelim.? Dogs led at half time and had the momentum, and then at the start of the third quarter, Lake "pushed" N. Riewoldt over (really the latter milked it for all he was worth). Phhhhrrrr!!!!!! Free kick to Saint Nick right in front. Goal St Kilda. I was spitting chips!

(Another one of those "B. Lake moments".)

Never have I barracked harder for a team that wasn't Hawthorn than I did for the Doggies that night, and I reckon I would have been just as gutted as Brad Johnson when the final siren went.

i loved how after clearly giving away something that arguably should've been 50m, lake tries to play on pretending he didn't do anything wrong :D

play to win, brian!
Unfortunately, Lake has all the body language & pre-disposition of a bank robber....He needs to read up on the Geelong manual of how to commit murder, act like your the victim, then receive a free kick for it.....Lets call it the Jimmy Bartel.

hahaha. im probably one of the few that gave jimmy the benefit of the doubt- i think if someone is running/jumping full-tilt then it takes very little from anyone else to send them flying awkwardly.

That is hardly the sole example & merely represents the tip of the ice-berg with this bloke....Check out the Preliminary final in 2013 against the Cats....Cyril marks the ball 25 meters out in front of our goal, Bartel slaps the ball out of his hands & the umpire somehow manages to call play-on when it was a clear infringement & a 50 meter penalty....He gets away with shit like that 2 or 3 times every game I watch.

He is the master at disguising an infringement while seeming to make out that it was the other bloke....He'll hold onto a bloke in a contest running for the ball & all the while present the opposite body language that it is fact he who is being held....I'm just surprised it took this long for the bloke to be exposed for the artful dodger that he is.

Between Selwood's shoulder shrugs (Which actually causes the high contact, therefore initiated by him), Johnson's constant Whining & appealing for frees & this blokes sleight-of-hand, the Cats managed to win 6 games last year by less than a goal....It's time the umps woke up to their bullshit.

Fortunately for us, we had 3 very good umpires in our Qualifying final in 2014, who ignored all their usual shenanigans....This time!

Well said P35. It actually annoyed me for years how people thought Bartel was a honest player and was an angel/good guy. Great to see people actually starting to acknowledge that he is far from it.

IMO he has long been overrated (only had 2 genuine elite years, 07-08. Has since been a solid player but no elite champion as he is made out to be. Big moment player so I'll give him that. He was great in the 11 GF.

What is more overrated though is the perceived good guy tag that comes with him.

i dont think hawks fans can complain about the shoulder shrug given that puopolo excels in that area too.
He has learnt from the master & has the lack of stature & low center of gravity necessary to exploit it....Regardless, that's besides the point....It should be play-on every-time, as the movement by both Selwood & Poo causes the high contact & not the other way around.

It's annoyed me for years as well

Basically the Cats think they have a massive undeserved sense of entitlement.

Every free kick against them is met by howls of protests from the players - and that classic opened mouthed gasp from coach Scott with hands in the air as he looks around to his fellow coaches. Count the number of times you see that coach's gasp in every game.

They get away with murder.

The throwing the ball rule doesn't exist in Geelong's case. They can drop it (before they dive) or just hand it on - with impunity.

yeah, i can't get all worked up by players playing to win (otherwise i'd be a hypocrite). lake's clear free against buddy was a perfect professional free kick and something you expect in a GF against a star forward.

I only wish he'd of hit him harder, and drove his head deep into the M.C.G turf....Followed by a quick camera pan to Jacinta's face!:D

There's playing to win, then there's the self-entitled deceitful Geelong way....Lets not make excuses for em.

Sort of, as Dermi said afterwards, Bud can thank Spang for going easy on him. I believe the words were :" if that was a marking contest in my day, bud would have woken up in hospital"

Think had it have been lake instead of Spang, we'd be having a very different conversation.

I love the way Lake acts like nothing happened after the act! He does this once at least once a game. The hit on Walters in GF 13 and then bad acting followed where he was slightly touched by another Docker, he slowly fell like he was shot..haha an absolute hilarity. Nek minut , 3 week suspension and a NSM to go with a Premeirship! Love watching him play. Let's not forget in the game against the Pies in 2013 when Cloke wanted take Hodgeys head off and in steps the Big Bear to let Cloke know that he is more his size! Obviously also against Porkins last year after he punched Stratts in the face! Make no mistake, this bloke has been awesome for the Mighty Hawks and no Schoenmakers or even the Spangher can replicate that.
