Who'd have thought that Naughton and Cordy would be the 'shortest talls' we look like going into a final at 195 and 193!? (Cordy is also listed at 195 on Wikipedia)

English 207
Darcy 208
Bruce 197
JUH 197
Gardner 197

Or we could bring in:
Keath 197
Schache 199
Sweet 203
Martin 199

Potentially next year:
Rory Lobb 207
Liam Jones 198
And those short people Tom Barrass (194) or Griffen Logue (193)!

What a time to be a Bulldogs supporter who's watched Gary Merrington, Steven Kretiuk, Craig Ellis and Danny Southern have to hold down KPD posts over the years! Even Crofty was on the shorter side for a FB in his era.

Edit: the 70s and 80s also saw us go into games with players like Alby Smedts, John Reid and Michael Ford line up at FB. We didn't always have short defenders, but it was almost comical the players we asked to play above their height down there often enough to create a regular headshake routine before the opening bounce!

I think a few of your measures are a little short!!!!. Latest listed heights on WB page are: Schache 201, Keath 198, Sweet 205, Bruce 198, Cordy 195.

I went off Wikipedia and afltables. Club sites have interesting variations. Even back when Scott West and Brad Johnson were running around, the club would change their height (up and down) almost yearly.

The scale is different (everyone was smaller then) but in the mid 70s we had Dempsey, Round, Hampshire (Baker before that), Welsh, Salmon, Quinlan, Sandilands, Templeton, Parke and even taller mediums like Merrington and Morrison.

Yeah, I know, but Quinlan, Sandilands and Templeton played as KPPs at 193, 188, 191 (Parke a mobile CHF at 185), but Merrington consistently played FB for several seasons at 187 and 85kgs picking up the taller and/or heavier McKenna, Wade, even Hudson and Donohue, amongst others, when Sandilands moved forward and before Templeton established himself. And Smedts and Kretiuk were flankers asked to play KPD on bigger opponents. Ellis consistently played on taller CHFs as well.

Smedts was FB in the 1978 St Kilda record score game.

My point was we've often struggled for quality tall defenders, and even when we have them, smaller players have been asked to step up. Kretiuk often covered FB when Croft's hammies gave out, or Southern was injured/suspended, but Southern was never a genuine KPD height in his era either.
