Was listening to 882 this morniing and there was some dicussion about Karls comments towards NicNat and some poor language he used at some stage.

Can anyone fill me in as i came in late on the discussion?

He was pouring cold water over the Naitanui fanfare. Said the crowd was masturbating too fiercely or words to that effect. Mark Readings fired up saying oi thats bad language and the fanfare is justified, then Karl fired back a bit at Readings.

Seriously though... what can we get excited about??? Its not putting unfair expectation on the kid its being excited about past achievements. No forward thinking fan believes he will dominate like that every game, and we know he is an 18yr old tall so it will take 4 years before he can get to his best.

Im annoyed at people pooring water on the excitement theres no way you could dampen how well Naita played and you wouldnt want to unless your an arrogant prk who doesnt want anything but negative news out of West Coast. Im sure if the story was about how poorly our kids play and how bad Wooshas coaching was it would of gotten allot of air time locally as well.

Why do we have to poor cold water on the good news and a torch to the bad?

It was good news yes Bodazoka but we don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves and put too much pressure on the kid too soon. This is what Langdon was trying to say and I agree with it. The more we get excited too fast and too soon the more pressure we put on a developing young kid and that can be deterimental to his growth if he gets burdened with too much pressure.

It was exciting but let's take things slowly with NickNat and not expect those things from a 19 year old kid every week just yet.

I agree but who said we did? who came out even on these forums or on bay 13 and said right we are going to get that every week? no one did. Because no one expects it every week, we know he is young and no one is going to bake him for having a bad game this early in his career.

The comments were un warrented and purely an attempt to negate the good feeling we are having after having a good win and watching a possible future star. Just because there is excitement doesnt mean theres expectation every week.

When Naita does have a bad game and IF there are a few who post negatively towards him then I would expect the defence to come out and burn those people with comments like "we shouldnt expect v Hawthorn every week" not after a great game and a great win.

I was listening to it at the game, and it wasnt so much his opinion being expressed, but the fact that he wouldnt let it go... it was a good continuous 20 minute whinge and really putting a downer on things... comments over and over like "what are people excited about - he wouldnt even be in the eagles best 10 players" which is a fine 1 off comment... but it seriously went on and on for 20 good minutes and afterwards to the post game call-back discussions. I felt like reaching down the radio and belting him... fk off Langdon and let people enjoy some hope and excitment.

Sure we don't expect him to win the game off his own boot in the last quarter every week ;):D but really what he delivered was what I would expect most weeks from him.

8 kicks, 3 handballs, 14 taps, 3 tackles, 2 goal assists and 3 goals.

These are not earth shattering stats by any stretch, its a 6 out of 10.;)

I posted months ago I would be rapt with 10 possies, 15 taps, a couple of goal assists, good forward pressure / tackles and a couple of goals each game from Nait playing forward pocket with short stints in the ruck.

I don't see this as being too 'over the top' in expectations for a young player with his current attributes.

Not bad stats really, when you consider he spent 40% of the game on the bench (and considering it was played in conditions that were not great for tall players!)

No pressure though.:D

As for Langdon, FFS, we were just supporters (clearly the diehards that would venture out into a storm to watch their team) having a good time at the footy! We watched some very good play from our kids and had fun doing so, so what?

Actually my favourite play of the game was when Nic Nat tapped the ball down to Ebert who got off a quick handball to LeCras and bang, goal from 50. As I was watching that unfold, I was pretty content thinking "that was our future in that play".

They are probably not even going to repeat that effort next week, let alone every week, but it was exciting at the time!

I've been dying to see this kid play since I saw him up against Kruezer in the U18's, like Masten (06-07), he was good enough to play in the U18's a year early too (07-08) and he flogged Kruezer and was dominate in the 07 team whom went underfeated.
If watching youngsters like Masten, Ebert, Hurn, Scooter and Nic Nat pull together during a fierce storm, show class, hardness, a bit of flag flying and beat the reining premiers isn't something to get excited about, WTF is??? Geez, even Hodgey and Cambpell went up and congratulated Nic Nat.
I hope this isn't to hard, I certainly wouldn't want to upset anyone, particularily karl but, let's face it... Langdon is a forkwit... Did you ever hear his speil on how he supports North Melbourne and would never be biased towards the Eagles just because he played with them?
The boy has got a couple of mental problems, probably from all the couch's he slept on after footy had finished with him.
He's good with critiqueing pubs though :)

and 5 x 1%ers :thumbsu:

Sour grapes from Langdon because NicNat has played 2 games and had 3 highlight reel plays (mark againts Tigers and the first and third goal against Hawks)?

A feat which Landon probably took his whole 100 games to achieve!

I can see a little bit of his point but like the theme of this thread tends towards, a little bit of excitement from fans is not a bad thing. So long as we do not crush Natanui with expectations!

I'd say 5 - add to those the one handed scoop and goal assist to Priddis against the Tigers (ie, his first possession) and the ruck knock to Ebert who then handballed to LeCras for our first goal against the Hawks - that was as good a ruck tap as you will see in the AFL.

i dont know why people are saying he wont average alot of possies in his career, he's a ruckmen, he's not supposed to kick the ball 20 times a game but give our MIDFIELDERS first usage

Exactly - thats what pissed me off about Quartermaines "done nothing for 3 quarters comments"...

His role was rucking and deep in the goalsquare (and with less than 50% TOG first 3 quarters)... so his jobs respectively were taps to advantage (tick), and take those goalscoring opportunities that the team collectively create through pressure or delivery (BIG tick)... his role didnt lend itself to bulk possies... but thats all some people see it seems

Quartemaine pisses people off?

He's not Australia's leading broadcaster?

He's not a leading voice on AFL related discussions?

Perhaps a bit of a case of damned if you do and damned if you don't?

Cox gets panned for having too many possessions and not kicking enough goals... So Naita does not get many possessions and kicks 3 goals. What is a ruckman to do? Ahh yes, hit outs to advantage, big tick to Cox and Naita!

But he is a pathetically desperate Hawks fan.

He also has a special dislike for the Eagles. I suspect like Brerreton and Hird he is a Victorian old school fool who resents the way the eagles set new standards on and off the field over the years - just review any of his calls of Swans-Eagles games. His bias is pathetic.

Absolutely un called for, have witnessed him stick up for our mob many a time.

Hird is one of the most balanced football personalities going around. Much respect for the bloke.

Nic Nat didn't get this rounds 'rising star' award some kid playing in the East got it for 20 something possesions did any of them result in a goal? Let alone 3 MATCH WINNING GOALS

No doubt Naitanuis efforts resulted in five goals. His Excellent tap to Ebert that resulted in LeCras Goal in the first. His work to get Kennedy a goal and the three of his own.

Pears set up 2-3 goals from the back line and kept Fev under wraps (with allot of help).
