I watched Essendon thump the Blues a few hours ago and I heard a rumour that that game was David Parkin last game as coach of Carlton.

I have great respect for the guys and if he does retire it will be sad to see him go.

When he was asked in the after game press conference he refused to comment about his future

I was wondering if you guys reckon whether he'll leave or whether John Elliot will keep him at Carlton?

If he does go who will replace him? Wayne Britain?

Wayne Brittain will be the senior coach in 2000 for sure. Parkin is getting old, and although coaching may not be physically draining like playing is, it is about 1000 times more mentally draining then playing is.
A player only has to worry about his game on the weekend and prepares for it in his own way. Whereas the coach has to do stuff like make sure everyone is fit, think of the best strategy to beat the team (this requires a whole week of reviewing and analyzing their oppositions last few games, and his own teams last couple of games), the stress of press conferences espicially if their team looses, constant periods away from his family etc,.
Yes, Coaches do have assistants, unlike the players, but the amount of mental stress they go through, no player in the AFL would go through.
