Yeah, but it is still worth watching if you are a guy (or lean that way). ;)

Meh. I've seen better sex/lezo scenes in Nip/tuck.

I swear to god... Stripey looked up websites on the movie and the director refuses to explain (therefore has absolutely NO idea himself) the movie. Whatever... I missed the ending anyway. :D

Naomi Watts is very hubba hubba though.

Actually, I seem to recall someone once telling me that the DVD was just 1 scene so you couldn't even skip to scenes to find clues, just had to watch it over and over.

Last movies watched - "The Square" - aussie flick, highly recommended.

"The Spirit" - dog's breakfast, don't recommend at all.

Yup. Stripey is obsessed with it now.. always talking about it, coming up with theories about what happened in it. And yup, he checked you cant skip over chapters cause there arent any. Guess you can scan thru it tho, if you have that kind of time.

Funny you mention Lynch, I currently have 'Inland Empire' recorded off Foxtel and the rumour I have heard is that is even more impenetrable than 'Mulholland Drive'.

Should be interesting when I finally get the time to watch it.

Away We Go

I saw the trailer for this Sam Mendes film and straight away bought the dvd from America rather than waiting for it to open at cinemas here.
It stars John Krasinski (from The Office US) and has an excellent ensemble cast including Jeff Daniels, Allison Janney, Catherine O'Hara and Maggie Gyllenhall.
It's basically a road trip movie about a couple looking to find themselves.
It's been suggested that's a little more mature version of Garden State and that's pretty accurate, right down to the amazing soundtrack (provided on this film by the brilliant Alexi Murdoch).
It opens down here in a few weeks and i hope everyone goes and sees it because it's a wonderful film.

Whatever Works

I went along to see this film purely because it was a Larry David project and i can't get enough of his shtick.
The film itself is decent enough although it's both predictable and unrealistic but i suggest most saw it for the same reason i did, Larry David, so in that regard you certainly got what you paid for.

The Boys Are Back

Despite getting mixed reviews i really loved this one.
Clive Owen was superb, Emma Booth was solid as always but the Rupert Grint lookalike really stole the show for me.
It's a beautiful film visually and the story is good enough to keep me entertained for a few hours.

2012

I usually despise disaster films but i saw the trailer and was intrigued so i went along not really knowing whether i'd wasted my money but i walked out pleasantly surprised.
You need to suspend your belief throughout but if you can do that you should really enjoy the nearly 3 hour long film.
Oliver Platt, who is one of the world's best (if grossly underrated) actors, really was the star of the film for me.
The only issues i had with the film were firstly the casting of Amanda Peet as i just don't buy her as a mother, the second problem was the whole 'nappies' fiasco.
You have to have seen the film to understand by it was a pathetic and unnecessary add-on that had no place in such a film.

The Invention Of Lying

As with 'Whatever Works', i went along to see the creator/star moreso than the film (in this case, Ricky Gervais).
The premise for the film is sheer genius and the first 20 minutes were excellent but it really lost it's way after that and the ending was dreadful.
Jennifer Garner was also an odd fit (although the Jennifer Garner of five years ago would have been perfect).
I know it won't happen but i'd love to see Ricky head home and make a true British film because i'm certain it'd be amazing.

BTW Shell, did i tell you that we finally finished watching all of 'Six Feet Under'?

I can't remember if i mentioned it earlier, but you were certainly right about the finale.
It's been many weeks since i watched it and it still makes me think, still raises so many questions and as silly as it sounds, still haunts me.
It was a beautiful ending to the best television show ever.

THIS. :thumbsu:

And why wont it happen?!?!?! Lets face it, everything Ricky has made thru "Hollywood/America" is pretty much shithouse. I long for the days of The Office and Extras... oh how I long for thee....

(Good write up there btw. I liked TBAB too. Esp the scenery. Kinda makes me wanna go to South Australia... yeah nah just kidding :D)

No you didnt!!!

Am glad to hear you have finished it, and loved the finale as much as I did. It IS haunting isnt it. The song they chose was SPOT. ON. Goes to show how important music is in a TV/flim.

And I know I've probably mentioned this about 100 times now, but IM GETTING THE BOXSET FOR XMAS. Stripey has ordered it for me online. :):thumbsu:

I also have series 1-5 of Nip/tuck too!!!!! Got series one and two for like $25 from Kmart FTW. :thumbsu:

I actually enjoyed 'Ghost Town', but even it lacked the spark his British stuff has.

He won't do a truly British film because Americans just don't get British comedy and thus his capacity to make money from it decreases greatly.

Absolutely.
It was perfect, just like the entire series (well apart from season four in which they went a bit too 'soapy' with the drama and sex) and was a really fitting end for such a wonderful show.

Out of interest, where there any of the main characters that you disliked? They obviously made them all flawed and realistic but i was quite fond of them all with the exception of Claire who i never once warmed to.

BTW Have you ever found another show that's come close to replicating the quality of SFU? I've tried a few in the aim of filling the void SFU left but nothing comes close. :(

You are? Awesome.
Which version are you getting, the older 'grass' box or the newly released version? I've only got the individual seasons so i'd love to get the old style 'grass' box, just waiting for it to go down in price enough for me to justify buying the same actual discs for a second time. :D

You'll love the dvd's, if only for the extras which are just oustanding for any real SFU fan.

Sorry, thought Ghost Town was unfunny and could have been so much better.

Yup, the MUM. Omg Ruth annoyed the shit out of me. She seemed to be "floating" thru life and had no idea where or how to fit in. I guess that may happen when your husband of however many years dies. (Btw the father JUST passes away when series one begins? Do you know exactly how recent it was??) But yeah Ruths constant whinging annoyed the crap out of me.

Liked Claire tho. I know SHE constantly whinged too, but i dunno. For some reason I liked her. Maybe I could related to her a bit (ie. I'm female and the youngest in my family, like her)

David tho was my fav. Felt like a fondness towards him, lol. Maybe cause hes gay.

And no, nothing has come close to SFU. Dont even bother searching atm. All I watch each week is: Survivor (starts tomorrow!) and The Amazing Race. Either that or DVDs.

You are? Awesome.

Dunno! All i know is Im getting 'a" boxset. Probably the grass box. We'll see... I'll let you know after xmas!

I found Ruth to be quite a source of humour throughout the show.
I did start to dislike her after what she did to George (i thought it very cold and harsh on her part) but prior to that i always sympathised with her.

I just found Claire to be obnoxious and selfish.
I sometimes forget though that the character was supposed to be 17 at the start (so 22 at the end) so i guess those traits often come out when we're young.

David tho was my fav. Felt like a fondness towards him, lol. Maybe cause hes gay.
David was another source of great humour.
An excellent character played perfectly by MCH.

What did you think of Brenda? I quite liked the character but my partner despised her.
I don't know if it was a female thing or just that the character didn't appeal to her.

Nate was my favourite character.
I didn't agree with many of the decisions he made but there was something inherently good and likeable about him and i really had an affinity with him.

And in keeping with the thread, i'll add a film i forget to add in my earlier post, Yes Man.

I sat down to watch the film basically to see Rhys Darby (and Zooey Deschanel) and had no other real expectations but i was pleasantly surprised.
The writers obviously watched Jim Carrey in 'Liar Liar' prior to writing the script because it's basically the same film with just a slightly altered premise.
Enjoyable enough, though.

Yeah she may have been harsh, but you think about what he put her through. It was pretty extreme stuff...

100% agree. :thumbsu:
He's a fantastic actor. Could never get into that show Dexter for some reason tho.

.
It was a love/hate thing with Brenda, from my POV. Sometimes I really quite liked her character.... then some of her actions I completely despised. Altho I'm quite sure that was quite a deliberate thing by the writers!

Paranormal Activity.

First of all, so glad I did not pay for tickets to this film.

Wont try and give anything away to the people still wanting/planning on going to see it... but geezus it could have been a WHOLE lot better.

Starting with the acting. Sure. Yup. THAT was "natural like, real life doco acting". My ****ing arse. Blair Witch shits all over it in terms of realism and 'believeability'.

The hype was just sky high for this movie and it was always going to be a let down. Some of the scenes/ moments were really quite scary- some are more subtle than others. But the acting just drags it all down imo. And there are some plot holes or "why didnt they do that instead" moments in the film too.

5/10.

After seeing this, its made me realise how ****ing awesome Blair Witch was and how I want to now add it to my DVD collection. :thumbsu:

Pineapple Express

I've never really understood the 'weed' culture but i still really enjoyed the film.
Seth Rogen and James Franco worked well together and it was awesome to see Rosie 'Infinity plus infinity' Perez again after all these years.

Titanic

Watched it on Saturday Night as it was on the TV my parents were watching. General storyline is shit and makes me want to throw knives at our windows but the scenes with the ship sinking are very well done as well as well as the ship itself. Kate Winslet also gets her tits out so that makes the movie worth watching just for that as she has a super set on her.

I give this movie tits/10. :thumbsu:

The 40 Year Old Virgin

Super film, probably Steve Carell's breakout role and has put Judd Apatow on the map as a comedic director/writer. Quite a few laughs throughout the film and some scenes are particularly humourous (the wax-scene is really funny). All four characters have their moments and the flim is helped by the array of attractive female characters.

I'd recommend this to those looking for an adult-themed comedy.

7/10.

LOL: "Kelly Clarkson"

I've heard Steve say in an interview before, that scene was totally "real", in that he was in that amount of pain. I think if you look closely the other guys in it are sniggering.

As for Titanic.. yeah I was trying to watch some of it but Phil kept changing the ****ing channel. DYK, if you cover that thingy that picks up the signal from the romote on the TV, the reomte STILL can change the channel.
