Last night proved that we don't need the Grand Final at the MCG anymore.

G every second year. If it's a national Comp, other states deserve to host, but Adelaide and Perth must be given priority over Sydney and Brisbane

The point being that there are multiple relatively convenient options (especially for SA,NSW) to get to the G.

It isn’t as if Adelaide members with GF access rights miss out on getting to the G.

That is the problem with Perth for a ‘rotating’ final. The likelihood being you will have some 35-40k club members from the east of Australia who would currently have access to a GF ticket and be easily able to attend at the G.

You simply aren’t going to be able to get the 35k club members across to Perth...the rotation idea will shaft competing club members.

Either go with a ‘home’ GF or leave it as it is. And for mine, the GABBA GF was sorely lacking in terms of build up and event feel (how much you contribute to COVID??).
If you had the grand final every second year( as a minimum) this wouldn’t be a major issue for the majority of supporters.

Sure if Collingwood and Richmond for example were in the gf then there would be some people that would have to get on buses across the Nullarbor (which is currently what west Aussie’s have to do when their team makes it). But the same arrangement occurs the other way if freo and wce were currently in the gf.

Again if it rotates it would only be an issue one in every x amount of years and only for a select amount of supporters.

As someone who isn’t married to the idea that the GF belongs at the G every year, Saturday night actually did make me miss the 2:30 bounce in front of 100k. Would be curious to see it at Optus and AO, but doubt anywhere will match the atmosphere down here.

It was still a spectacle despite a reduced crowd and non-traditional state (most of the credit must go to the teams, to be fair, good quality game). It would be a spectacle anywhere, the MCG simply offers a little larger crowd. The difference isn’t worth locking out every other state.

The MCG is not the spiritual place some people make it out to be.
It really is. Footy has been played at Gosch’s for 160 years - it’s a pretty incredible place. Regardless of whether you’re there with 100k people or with 15k on a rainy as piss Sunday twilight staring out the walkway window at the dog walkers and train lines. Its the birthplace of modern footy. It’s a pretty magical place.

Why do any of you stooges give two *s about the "entertainment" on GF day?
Are people out there really this stupid and vacant?
Yep.
Oh and as for the O.P....lol, yeah, nah. Its staying at the G homie. Reap it !

??
It would be a huge issue for the majority of supporters every year it is away from the G.

In a normal season how the heck are you going to hv a GF at 40k GaBBA when you hv what 35k club members who are normally entitled to a ticket.

Throw in another 10-15k AFL members (a majority with competing club support)

Then all the corporate tickets

The club members will be the ones getting shafted...every year it is not at the G.

It ain’t the same

There are 18 teams, with 16 of the 18 teams are based east of Nullarbor

153 possible GF combinations

Just 1 involves 2 teams traveling west across the Nullarbor ~ 0.6% chance

120 would involve 2 teams travelling east across the Nullarbor ~ 80% chance

Why would you ‘rotate’ to WA when you know there is an 80% chance that both competing teams are based on east coast, and you will have ~ 40k competing club support members who are normally entitled to a ticket
need to somehow get across the country??

Or do you not want the passionate members of the actual competing teams at the GF?

Again if it rotates it would only be an issue one in every x amount of years and only for a select amount of supporters.
No the current scenario is what you described - only a select number of supporters are inconvenienced

isn’t fair, tis just the market

Rotating will just increase the % of supporters that are inconvenienced almost every year.

The WA view appears to be it ain’t fair that we cop the rough end of the pineapple, so let’s campaign for all supporters to be put out just so they can experience what ‘we’ have to.

Ill go one further..
You interstate clubs JOINED THE VFL!
no VFL, you DO NOT EXIST!
Yes its a national comp now, but some things will default and sometimes it wont be your way...
So ? Sit down at the back of the class !
jesus.

Absolutely moronic to sign up the MCG as the GF venue to when many of us will be dead.

If they hadn’t, there would be bidding wars between states to get a GF (fixtured a few years in advance).

I’d love to see it move around.

Screw your entertainment, the games a spectacle enough.
Fireworks & laser shows belong to NYE & Music Festivals.
The MCG is the Mecca of our game & yes I mean at a National level!
Mate it's a spiritual place even just going past it by any mode of travel - walking, driving, train etc.
So on a Saturday afternoon with 100K people in the house. it's Heaven on Earth!

As a Brisbanite I would prefer the Grand Final at the MCG every year at 2.30pm on the last Saturday in September in perpetuity, love the tradition of it.
Brisbanite or Brisbanian?

aw now that is cute.. keeping everyone sweet while you revel in the fact that you 'stole' the grand final...
Last time I was called cute was in Primary school back in the 1960s.

I'm hoping to attend an MCG Grand Final with the Lions in it before I part this mortal coil.

It would never happen due to inflexible scheduling etc but Id love to see the GF at a neutral ground every year.

Have it at the MCG if 2 non Vic sides are playing.

Have it at the AO, Optus, SCG or Gabba if 2 Vic sides are playing.

100% neutral ground.

Theres hardly any tradition left in the game anyway so why not throw everything in the air

Have all the people who want the GF moved been to a GF at the G? It is a great event and if you get to Melbourne on the Thursday and take in the whole build up you will really be part of a special event.
Its not because it can’t be replicated elsewhere because of course it can but the G is a special place fir all Australians and not just Victorians.
It is right now and for the foreseeable future the best place for the GF, I have no doubt in a few decades it will be played elsewhere year to year but lots will have changed by then, there won’t be 10 clubs in Victoria, the game will be non contact, there will be no salary cap, we will probably be using a round ball.
Enjoy what we have and what is left of our great game. Keep it at the G.

It is a game for everyone. In your argument it should be the same 35k that are entitled to go every year. If you want to build the game you need as many different people being able to experience it, by moving around the country this allows for this change.

Its easy to claim its tradition, "its the way it should be..." when you are at the good end of the stick. When you are oppressed (strong language) you obviously want to see some level of change, which is effectively what is happening now. This is something that society in general struggles to see.

At the end of the day it would be a sell out no matter where you looked for it. If packages were offered to the interstate members of whichever club at the beginning of the season (if their team was successful). You would still have loyal passionate fans, just ones that live in a different state.

The Gabba did fine, it will be looked back on as precedent in the long term when the league is more national, ground capacities are more equal, as well as the Melbourne 'experience' inevitably being more dialed down.

But for the short-to-medium term (say until 2040s), ideally 2.30pm at the 'G.
