I've been thinking over the last today about this interesting question. It always seems to me interesting to mark when a flag becomes 'old' as when no one currently playing the game played in that flag. Essendon's 2000 flag is getting there, I think only Fletcher, Lloyd and a few others are left and they'll be gone in a few years.

Our team was this:

Hall | Ablett | Ball | Barry | Bevan | C.Bolton | J.Bolton | Buchanan | Crouch | Davis | Dempster | Fosdike | Goodes | Jolly | Kennelly | Kirk | Mathews | O'Keefe | O'Loughlin | Roberts-Thomson | Schneider | Williams

Ball, Mathews, and Williams are all gone, with Davis probably gone as well. Crouch, Fosdike, O'loughlin, Barry, Kennelly and possibly Hall will hang up the boots at the end if 09.

That leaves Ablett, Bevan, C. Bolton, J. Bolton, Buchanan, Dempster, Goodes, Jolly, Kirk, O'Keefe, LRT and Schneider as our remaining Premiership players currently playing AFL.

Personally I think Bevan will be our last survivor of the flag, just outlasting Dempster and Schneider at the Saints.

Interestingly watching the Saints-Swans game last night there was a passage of play that went something like Williams -> Fosdike -> Crouch -> Ball -> Mathews -> O'keefe and it was remarkable to think that basically all but one of those players will be gone by the end of 09. Really makes 05 seem a long time ago!

i'll say jolly.... ruckmans always last longer

despite what the critics say about our list (in terms of age), the players have really done well to perform as well as they have at an afl level

Yeah, I can see Schneider lasting until about 29, 30 maximum, but he'll be the new Gehrig for the Saints, and I don't mean that in a good way.
