Last year it was Davey........this year Eddie Betts.
Lets not miss out on this guy if given the opportunity with our 2nd round pick.
Seems to be one that has slipped through the draft hype & if he's around at No. 25, we should definitely snap him up.

This would mean we wouldnt have to be held for ransom over trading for a crumming forward that we just cant seem to develop for ourselves.

This kid looks superb, I hope we dont do another "Davey" & let someone with obvious talent slip through our fingers if we have the opportunity to draft him with our 2nd round pick.

Hopefully he will last that long.

Who are we picking up with first round? :p

There are reasons that players slip through the hype net. Davey has had one good year but is there more baggage to come yet? Besides, the price for Davey is what made him such a good pickup. A rookie pick is nothing compared to a second rounder when you have so many other deficiencies. I am undecided on this one. We definitely need someone at the feet of Fev kicking those goals but is the price right?

I think Davey would have been a good choice as a 3rd rounder or 4th at worst this time last year.
Especially for us.
In hindsight, he would be looked at as a first round get-away after his great year.

Eddie Betts (if is anticipated to go later in the draft) would be a great pickup with our 2nd pick - if he lasts that long on Saturdays display.

Not sure who we are looking at with pick 9 & fully trust that Pagan & Co will make the right selection there, but hopefully some Carlton eyes are on this fella.
He will make it & like davey from last year, several clubs will get the "what happened there" from supporters when this guy turns it on.

Would love to see him round 1 at the feet of Fev, putting the likes of Milne, Harding, Sampi & Davey to shame.
That is if he is playing for us of course. :)

I saw his game yesterday and was equally impressed ...

Initially i thought he'd be super ... but ... he is VERY small, only 170cm's or so, which is why he is touted as more a rookie list player, too much of a risk in the draft.

Agree we need someone who is fleet footed at the feet of fev ... but ... kenna was too small, and i fear in the big leagues, eddie may be as well, def love to give him a go!! But DEFINATELY not with our 2nd round pick!! We can get a potential ruckman, maric or whatever, or even another kpp prospect.

Here's whats written about him on Footdraft ...

Eddie Betts
Details:
Club: Templestowe/Calder
DOB: 26 November 1986 Hgt: 170cm Wgt: 72kg
Position: Forward Pocket/Back Pocket
Natural Foot: Right

Honours:
Victoria Metro 2003, 2004
All Australian 2003
National Draft Camp 2004

TAC Stats:
2003: 17 games, 36 goals, 14.1 PPG
2004:

Strengths: Eddie is a livewire pocket rocket who was originally from Kalgoolie. He was recruited to the Calder Cannons on the advice of Phil Krakouer, and also played junior footy in SA at Malee Park, where his cousins Harry Miller, Graham Johncock and the Burgoynes came from.

Betts is super quick and elusive, and his front and square ability is just sensational. Is capable of kicking the freak goals every week, as well as dishing off with his exceptionally quick hands. Reads the play well and can kick on the left.

Weaknesses: Obviously his size. Betts is tiny and to get drafted when you are 5'6 you have to be exceptional - even then you can still get overlooked. Whether Eddie has the body to handle the rigours of AFL football is the big question. Specialst forward pockets also tend to get overlooked by most clubs. Injuries also affected him in 2004.

Footydraft.com comment: Eddie is one of the hardest players to classify in the entire draft pool. I love the way he plays and his ability mean it would be a travesty if he wasn't at least given an opportunity on an AFL list. However, I think clubs will be just too wary of his small stature, and a rookie list is a more likely option at this stage.

Sadly, I can't see him lasting that long - but I saw a bit of him yesterady too and agree he could be something. Having said that, who knows what clubs are thinking, he could go top 10 for all we know?

Does anyone know the name of the other highly touted aboriginal player from the Northern Territory who is apparently a hot tip to be a top 5 pick? Just checked Footydraft.com, Richard Tambling it is!

The question is, do you think Carlton should try and trade into the top 3-5 picks to snare a kid like this? Or do we wait until our pick (#9) to get who's left by then?

Richard Tambling.
Top 3.
We are NO chance of getting him.

Maric would be a very high risk/high rewayrd prospect, could be good value at 25 for the Blues.

As for Betts, I love this kid, but I couldn't see him going anywhere in the top 50 or so picks. Sublimely talented, but he is a specialist forward pocket, and at that height may very well get found out at AFL level as a one trick pony.
