News Last year for Moons

Moons seems to be an absolute realist, which is something I really like about him. Knows his role and station in the squad and knows it's not going to last forever. He's had a good run. Good to see we've got a player who can see the writing on the wall, because we're going to need a few more of them over the next two or three years.

Good on ya, Moons :thumbsu:

Agree. I hope a few more of our older players have this realism because then the decisions that need to be made won't be quite as painful.

Absolutely vital part of our Premierships and dominant era. CHF is the hardest position on the ground and Moons has played it extremely well. Sure he has had the odd brain fade and dose of the yips but his effort of over 60 goals in 2007 was superb.
Really hope that he can influence Mitch Brown or Vardy into becoming a replacement for him. Fantastic servant of the Club and no doubt a very popular team member. Take a bow big fella !!

Agree.

He's been a great servant for a long time, and I hope he sees his role now (it seems he does) as to mentor the young guys, and help them in the transition to taking that spot. How we manage the transition will be quite important.

Moons will be missed when he has retired.

We lost some muscle last year with Max Rooke's forced retirement and when Mooney is finished we will have no one who I would describe as an Enforcer.

I think that Geelong has some good talent coming through but I also think that Geelong will lack serious muscle in the near future.

I Heard a whisper that Mooney will pull the pin mid season if the body starts to fail him, and move to the Gold Coast to continue a bussiness career with hes brother. I know jason lives up here but i wasnt sure big Cam was in partnership with him. Anybody know anything about a bussiness partnership.

Have you EVER got anything ****ing positive to say on this board?
Yes.,Yes.

My wife got pulled over today by the cops because I stuck a CATS membership small sticker on her back number plate. And it's not April 1. I am POSITIVELY peeved about that. Moreover, she has been given an official warning. Beware.

I have paid up nearly $1000 worth of memberships for GEELONG, again, for perhaps the 10 th consec year. I am POSITIVELY committed as a supporter. I work 6 - 7 days a week, POSITIVELY too much, but like following Geelong, I'm addicted.

Does that mean I pick them to be flag favourites every year, any year, no way. Even if I felt it, I would not admit it here on BF. My role here is to be honest, even if that is POSITIVELY pessimistic, just be glad you don't share my way of expression.

Don't you read my POSITIVE support for Blake, Byrnes, Lonergan, Varcoe, Mackie, Josh Hunt. I believe our bottom six represent our strength. Anyway, enough POSITIVITY for this year. So far.

This year? 2007' 2008, 2009 and 2010
2007?? Not true, unless you know me personally, I wasn't on BF and actually I thought 07 was to be a make or break year for Geelong and Bomber. If we bombed, that would have been the end of Bomber, and if we got up, it was to be. So if you knew me personally, you'd know this to be fact.
2008?? Until the GF, I thought all year that was our premiership to lose, and so we did. Not what I wanted or really expected, until after our prelim final.
2009. Thought all year Saints deserved to win it and by GF week, I can be quoted on BF as stating we had become favourites and were in fact the only team that was equipped to beat Saints.
2010. Yes, I thought all year we had exceeded our reign on top.
2011. Again, I believe this, and I am going to summarize a PM from a fellow cat on BF: If we can blood a few, promote some new regulars, see off some of the ageing stars with dignity, and play competitive footy, then Chris Scott has done his job. I truly believe that. But no, I do not think we are going to be in this year's GF. Rapt if we are. Plenty here disagree with me, that's fine.

I still remember the Wizard cup final that we lost to St.Kilda in 2004. They played cheap shots all preseason including shirt fronting Ling in that final.

The beauty of that game was watching Mooneys spoil on Aussie Jones and tell him something about "Ripping his f%^king head off". Brilliant.

Really enjoy watching the big fella play. Hope he goes out with dignity, something like Tom Harleys last game would be good.

Yes...he is a real presence out there and we will miss his aggression and hardness up forward...he has been a real barometer for us and an inspiration to others around him.

A fantastic servant of the Geelong Football Club. I will always think of Cam fondly.

True goer and not a backward step hope his body get him through one more season, he deserve's it!!!

With those with memories long enough how will he be compared to Stoneham, Brownless and co once he finally hangs up the boots?

Yep. Huge servant. Let's not forget the bloke played wherever asked and did it with everything he had. Centre-half back, ruck for a season, centre-half forward. Bloody tough gig. Had an awesome year in 2007 and a few very good years either side. Was key to the Geelong Football Club breaking a 44-year drought.

Done all that and may yet have to make one more sacrificial act. It may be in the clubs interest , imo , if he has times when he makes way for younger players this year even when his competitive temperament hates it.

He has matured out of sight has the BHC , listen to him on Cats TV and tell me he wouldn't inspire as a coach. Man look at those eyes , you'd run thru a wall for him. Im sure he want to head north when he is finished but if not I d certainly like him round. But his time in the side should now be limited.

I'D have Stoneham a class above Brownless and Mooney, two classes if he hadn't broken that leg.
I'm a fan of all 3, but when we needed somebody to put up their hand and be that CHF to get us into GF form, Mooney did and his durability wins it as well, IMO. He has been grossly undervalued by non Cat fans, and some Cat fans too, but I can not recall seeing us losing any game when Mooney has been on. I have visions of those amazing dives along the ground at full pace with him hanging onto the mark.

It shouldn't be forgotten that 2007 wasn't his first good year. I always thought 2006 was when he took a major leap forward. He got suspended 4 times, and naturally that's all most fans remember, but he played some great games that year from CHF for us. I always saw 2007 as a continuation of that form, not something new.
