Apologies if this has already been discussed, but does anyone think that starting a DT/SC team after the first round has been played, is a legit strategy? I've noticed a lot of teams jump on after the first round, and I know you wouldn't get any points for that round, but surely you could catch up pretty quick if you have the advantage of hindsight re. who killed it in the first round. Yes or no?

If you are only worried about winning the league which starts at round 4, then yes it is a pretty good advantage knowing if any players got injured etc.

As far as total points go though, I don't think its a big enough advantage to warrant giving others a potential 2000+ head start.

No because there are a lot of players that scored well in round 1 that will average well below that score for the remainder of the year.

i.e. Wiggins, Harding, Thornton last year, D.Jacobs few years ago

Definately an advantage in picking cash-cows though, but no chance of going near the overall prize, you're already 2000+ points behind the leaders.

So no chance to win over-all, but maybe to win league. Might use my wife's email account and give it a go. ;)

I'd call it a legitimate strategy to win your league or try win a weekly prize*. But impossible to catch up.

Joining between rounds 2-3 would be perfect for building a strong team. It's the same as joining before round 1 but with the advantage of hindsight.

*You'd still have to be amazing with amazing luck on top of that to win a weekly prize among 200,000 people.

the problem is, you wont be able to join any leagues. The only leagues you will be in are ones with other people who have exactly the same advantage as you. Granted they may not be doing it for the same reasons as you (this happened to me last year, my first dreamteam year, i joined a week late accidently). you will just be put into a random league. All the leagues with people who signed up first are already filled by the end of round 1 lockout.
This means that the only reason to do this is to win overall. It is possible, you'd just have to have great insight from just one performance as to who may dominate this year. Harding, Mcdonald, gilbee, vince may all do well this year for a cheapish price, as their roles seem to have changed, and not many would have them. In reality you would have to average about 110 points more per round then the person who came second (to make up the 2300 you are behind). Is the knowledge from one round worth 110 points per round? probably not.

No you wouldn't, you'd have to make up the eventual winner's Round 1 score + 1 or more.

ie - eventual winner scores 1700 in Round 1. You would have to make up the 1700 over the next 21 rounds.

Yeah, so not only would you have to average the highest in australia, but you'd have to find a spare 2000 or so points throughout the year. You would have the advantage with cash cows and injuries though... Is it even legal?

I've got a friend who joined my league over the weekend and another random that got joined to my league without a team after the weekend. They don't have teams listed, will be a bit annoyed if they can make teams without any penalties and full foresight going into the second round or even third round.

Yeah I've got a bloke in my league who joined about 3 weeks ago but didn't make a team for round 1. When dream team opened monday after the round 1 lockout, he was still in the league and had unlimited trades so pretty much he can build the best possible side from round 1s statistics. I'll be pissed off if he absolutely dominates the league...

i did this is my first year of playing Dream Team. Had no idea about the concepts of cash cows, premiums. Didnt even know Bigfooty existed. No access to fantasy freako, ffgenie, didnt know about final siren etc. My newbie team got 1300 points, and then about 1100 in round 2.

Decided to use my mums email and start with the best rookies on the bench, and the best midpricers, etc. Anyway i developed quite a nice team, and in one round i finished 7th overall. Was pissed i missed out on the weekly prize, because if i made a different captain choice i would have won it. Back then the weekly prize was $1000 too.

So it is a big advantage, and if you want to wait until after round 2 and develop a gun squad that will become rich have a crack at the weekly prize it is possible.

I think you can still win the weekly prize if you submit your team later.
however your not going to win overall or get into the eliminator.

The only way this would work though is if you create a new league OR you entered a league last week and didnt complete your team and got lucky with VS's kindness.

Either way I dont see this having much benefit for people unless they had their teams wiped and would giv them a small league advantage (Not getting Raines or Anthony would be the biggest upside saving you possibly 1-2 trades)
