This thread is designed to house all news related to the Tasmanian AFL team. It should be a rolling stream of news articles and commentary from posters on said news. Let's kick it off with the biggest news from two weeks ago:

The AFL will make a final call on the viability of a Tasmanian expansion team early in the 2022 season.

In a joint announcement, AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan and Tasmanian Premier Peter Gutwein said a decision on a Tasmanian AFL licence would be made at the "earliest opportunity" in the 2022 season.

"The decision on a Tasmanian AFL licence will be made, once and for all, in 2022 in line with the finalisation of the funding model for the AFL industry for the 2023 and 2024 seasons.

For Tasmania to get a team, the AFL Commission must agree on an expansion bid and then 12 out of 18 AFL clubs will need to sign off on the deal.

12 votes. That's all that stands in the way of Tasmania getting its own AFL team. It's going to be a huge 6 months for all involved in the Apple Isle!

Alister Clarkson joins the bid team in an advisory role. Big coup! I still wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up at Gold Coast but time will tell. That will all depend on when if successful the team comes into the comp.
Fantastic news.
Having his head in the game is a massive boost up for a Tassie team.

Scrolling through the Clubs section on the BigFooty header and noticed Tasmania sandwiched between Sydney and West Coast.

It makes me happy that there's a Tassie board in the AFL section of this forum.

#TD19.

Posted elsewhere Edmund reckons the AFL executive will recommend a 19 th license at next weeks AGM which means only 1/3rd of club presidents need to sign off on it when it goes to a vote in August (which now seems like it will be earlier).

Fingers crossed it does happen.

If it does happen, I'll want to lock in R1 2026 as the men's first league H/A game.
