Here is the latest news from the eagles.. Glen Jakovich with the ankle injury he sustained in a social cricket match before Christmas recovering well,Jako expects to resume full training in a fortnight but is already running at a reasonable pace and kicking.Meanwhile, full forward Scott Cummings came back significantly lighter after the Christmas break. Club sources say the burly goalkicker shed 10kg after sticking to a strict ‘no Christmas pud’ diet.Scotty lost the weight while restricted to light running due to recent surgery on his groin.Cummings is now running at about half pace and aiming to play by the second round of the Ansett Cup.The younger half of the dynamic Matera duo, Phil, finally got his arm out of a sling last week after pre-Christmas shoulder surgery. He was given the all clear to start training after visiting a specialist but will restricted to running and light ball work for the moment. Phil is hoping for a round 1 return, but club officials say round 3 is more likely. The Eagles only took a short Christmas break and started back on the track on 3 January. While the intensity of training has upped in recent weeks, the focus is much the same, with coach Ken Judge combining skills and fitness work throughout the program. The club now has use of Subiaco and will schedule more training there as the season gets closer.Of the recruits, ex-Hawthorn rover Richard Taylor has impressed with his work ethic, as has David Sierakowski. Injury-plagued ex-Tiger Mark Merenda has shrugged off a nagging back complaint and is training fully.Youngsters Jeremy Humm and Daniel Kerr are both coming along in leaps and bounds and are rated a good chance to see Ansett Cup action.

Some other news - the whole team goes on a three day camp tomorrow. Should be a good time for bonding!!

Also Richard Taylor gashed his leg open last night in a surfing accident. He had to have 10 stitches, but he should be OK for the start of Ansett Cup.
