The picture of Bock is pretty funny really. He needs to spend an offshore summer with Guido Hatsis. I wonder Bock will ever put weight on. I know if young but he doesn't look like he has the frame for it. I take heart from the fact that his brother is a tank (in the strengh and aerobic sense) but then he is different enough from Nathan to think that Christian may never put the reqired weight on.
Some ectomorphs simply cannot put on any real muscle mass. I feel our Bock is a raging ectomorph, however that didn't seem to affect Fletcher too much. I think you'll see that (if he stays on our list long-term) Bock will put on weight with general filling out, to the point where he just looks as normal as a gangly/skinny guy (Fletcher) can. However while he won't ever be a David Hille or Will Minson, it'll be enough to protect himself, and all the while, his strength will build up to withstand the rigours of AFL.

Lol, I'm a more viable AFL option than Bock right now...and I can't walk.

Can you imagine him rucking against Sandilands or Cox?

I reckon Hooker to keep his spot in the backline, Daniher to come back in, and Fletch to ruck.

McPhee can then go forward again.

****. ****. ****. ****. ****. ****. ****.

Fletch into the ruck?

You really need to get over this footballer Laycock. He's cost EFC over $2m and puts into proper perspective the kudos P Jackson deserves for the strength of the bomber balance sheet. Laycock moving on next year clears away the fog iin our ruck stocks, and heralds the need to chase a back up for poor old Paddy and a recovering Hille. Look no further than the Cats. Ottens, Blake, West, Mumford; a deal beckons.

We probably should have added an extra ruckman on our list with some senior experience in the past 2 years as the Laycock thing was always going to bite us.

So you're happy for Christian ****ing Bock to be in contention for a gig in the ones?

Like money's an issue.

Unless he retires, he's contracted next year, and won't leave with Bellchambers and Bock still so raw.

Wouldn't say no to any of those (except maybe Ottens given the price he'd command).

In the interests of Bock's, well, life, he's definitely out until his major organs are protected by more than skin.

I know he's a couple of rounds away, but I see NLM (of the mighty Dreamtime match leaping variety) coming in for a three-way ruck love in: Ryder main ruck, with NLM defaultly playing forward and Hooker defaultly playing back. Paddy can swap either back or forward, NLM can do the F50 ruck duties all game -- taking load off Paddy, letting him stay on field longer, in turn letting Hooker play most of the game in defence. Perhaps before NLM comes back perhaps Lucas could play that role.

Luckily our mids are OK at sharking taps, e.g. vs Freo.

My god people are actually looking into the light. prestty sure ive been saying this since the end of the draft that we should have drafted a mature aged ruckmen, as Ryder has not really been playing ruck, obviously he can ruck, but at the time, he had not played much their.

Hm... imagine if we had a Brad Moran, or a Trent West, which i suggested during trade time, we may not be in this position to play our rookie bean pole.

All good teams have at least 5 ruckmen on their list. we only have 4

Look at Hawthorn
1. Robert Campbell, AFL ready
2. Simon Taylor, AFL ready
3. Brent Renouf, AFL ready but developing kids in reserves.
4. Max Bailey, Developing in reserves under Renouf
5. Luke Lowden, Developing in reserves under Renouf

Now look at Essendon
1. David Hille, AFL ready
2. Jason Laycock, AFL ready
3.
4. Tom Bellchambers, Developing in reserves under ?
5. Christian Bock, Developing in reserves under ?

Point im making is, we need someone to both teach our kids in the reserves something, but is able to step up to the seniors if required.

Look at the benchmark of the comp.
Geelong obviously;
1. Brad Ottens, AFL ready
2. Mark Blake, AFL ready
3. Trent West, AFL ready, but in reserves developing kids.
4. Shane Mumford, developing in reserves
5. Dawson Simpson, developing in reserves

Oh well. best case scenario for bock is, he comes in and actually shows something

me thinks bock is going to be a star! put ryder down back and let bock go solo for a full game against melbourne (Y) :D

What do you call Ryder?

Going by your theory of structure, I would say our ruckmen are as follows:

1. David Hille; AFL ready
2. Paddy Ryder; AFL ready
3. Jason Laycock; AFL ready but developing kids in reserves
4. Tom Bellchambers; Developing in reserves
5. Christian Bock; Developing in reserves.

HFF, for the record, I called for the laggard to be traded to Carlton circa 2006.

Very unhappy that Bock is even mentioned, but we don't have much left do we.

'Like' ( to use use your expression, and it's a shocker ) money is a concern, and if wasted you tend to up destitute, and in the case of an unlisted public company like EFC, you may even end up in default of your creditors.

Good point about retirement, I suspect though with the low flying laycock, good old PJ may have slipped in a contingency plan with his contract, just in case of a sub par year.

Thats not a bad list to ponder a trade, as you would concede, in deference to the lizard.

Which is why we shouldn't have got rid of Laycock. 3/5 injured is horrible luck. 2/4, not so much.

It's a sad day when financial decisions over-ride list management decisions at the EFC. If Knighter wants a player, he stays.

Not entirely sure what you mean here.

I agreed with you.

Play Bock his a ruckmen saw his skinny as all **** but all we need is some to contest the **** for 5-7 mins a quarter
