Hey all, any green thumbs here?
I’m laying fake turf over the dead grass which is basically 85% dirt
Rather than digging all out have layed weedmatting after using a high concentrate herbicide, and will lay the Dolomite and use a plate compactor
Before laying the dolomite I’ve got varying levels from 50 mm > 30mm > 18mm
Can I just lay the dolomite and compact until level and screed then lay?

What level do you need to be ? how think is the turf ?
What goes under the fake grass ?
I thought it was a layer of sand for drainage ?

Around 20mm for level i think
Turf is 25mm high
Dolomite is base for it to go onto after compacted nailing into ground with 6 inch nails so goes through turf , dolomite and into soil at bottom
I think that’s what I need to do
A few different methods I’ve seen online

I laid some at a rental of mine last year, from memory, I leveled and compacted soil down 80mm from driveway. Added 50mm of crushed rock and then 20mm of crusher dust. Each layer was leveled, compacted and screeded. I nailed the turf down with U-nails, that came from the turf supplier, and also some turf nails from bunnings, the U-nails seemed to work better. I was pretty happy with the result, in last pic I was still sweeping in the sand, looked even better once complete. Good luck
