Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Finished 1-2, Leeds with a goal in the 6th minute of added time.

Great result for Carlisle, but they'll be very disappointed to concede. Give Leeds a good shout in the return leg.

I wasn't looking forward to this mornings game, I was expecting to see us flogged 4-0, so a 2-1 victory has me flying just below the clouds. Conceeding the late goal stops me from flying above the clouds.:)

Unfortunately the away goals rule doesn't apply in the playoffs for some reason I can't comprehend. Shame as the 2 goals would huge for our chances on Friday morning. Still expect Leeds to make the final.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Westwood looks a great keeper. Made several fantastic saves. IMO the difference between Leeds only scoring 1 instead of 3 or 4.

There is a wonderful picture of one of Westwood's saves on the attached gallery. It's an amazing action shot.

The young kid is our most valuable player, not only did he win us this game with some unbelievable saves, but he probably won us most of our games this year. I think he was voted League 1's top goalkeeper a few weeks ago, and won Carlisle player of the year in a canter. Deserves to play football at a higher level, I just hope it's with us.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

____! Still a chance with the late goal (Geez, Freedman has been a worthwhile loanee) but it's going to be tough. How's Westwood go with penalties DEVO, if ends up coming down to that?

Not only can Westwood save them, he can score them as well. Since he arrived we have been in four penalty shootouts, and won three of them. We don't conceed too many penalties during regular play, but according to a friend in Carlisle, he has saved about 40% of them (4 out 10 in 4 seasons).

I'm confident if it goes to penalties we have the better keeper. Just not sure about the penalty takers.:)

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

The new owners of Luton Town have confirmed that the newly-relegated side are close to exiting administration - but will start life in Coca-Cola League Two on minus 15 points in August.

The Hatters went into administration back in November and despite the LTFC2020 group agreeing to buy the troubled club in January the process has been held up by Leeds' appeal over their extra 15-point penalty.

But after the decision was taken to confirm the sanction for Ken Bates' club not exiting administration with a Creditors Voluntary Agreement (CVA) the Hatters are ready to start next season with the same penalty.

Statement

"We were selected as the preferred bidder in January but were advised by the Football League that their priority was to resolve the Leeds United situation.

"We were the only club in administration at that time but with other clubs in financial trouble it was felt important to decide on a penalty for not agreeing a CVA.

"Our CVA was rejected in April.

"Following the rejection of the CVA, LTFC2020 has made our application to the Football League to exit administration without a CVA under their 'exceptional circumstances' procedure.

"This was the procedure followed by Leeds United and resulted in a further 15-point deduction for them.

"Our completed application reached the Football League before the verdict of the arbitration panel into the Leeds case was announced.

"Consequently we are now liaising with the Football League on the final stages of exiting the administration process.

"Both the Football Association and Bedfordshire Football Association - who have the right of veto over our application - have fully supported our application to become members of the league again.

"It is frustrating for everyone that we cannot move faster. However we have to deal with the situation in the best way possible and with the sole intention of achieving the best outcome for Luton Town."

sad
maybe they shouldnt have voted for it

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Is the second leg on tomorrow morning our time?

correct. 4:45am again EST.

Carlisle boss John Ward (I think..) is playing mind games saying we are a shoe in. Pretty sure if your 2 - 1 up then your the favourite. Especially if your playing at home.

Carn you whites!

You don't need to sign up. Just choose the game and choose your preferred link (usually there are around five different streams with varying speeds and programs to view them).

I was surprised with the the stream I watched on Tuesday morning. The picture quality wasn't the best, but it hardly buffered over the entire game.

Thats good to know, I might get up and give it a crack. I have tested it out a bit tonight with other games and all I got was buffering.

The stream I watched was one of the Shockwave Flash links, played through my browser. My Broadband connection is of average speed and it worked pretty well, better than I thought it would anyway.

Congrats!

It's the least you deserved after such an amazing season.

One more to go.

How has Prutts gone this season by the way? I'd forgotten that he'd gone to Leeds.

Re: Leeds United Thread 07/08

Prutts, no that should be Jesus, is a cult hero. Has been very good all season, even though he probably didn't have a great game tonight. Top bloke with a cracking sense of humour who committed to the club in the pre-season when there were serious doubts over the future of the club.

I would love him to score the winner at Wembley.

On the game itself, I was crapping myself for that entire second half, everytime the ball ventured into Carlisle's attacking half I could hardly watch but we finished the game so strongly, a tribute to the fitness work put in by Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet at the start of the season. The Sky commentators kept on referring to the number of late goals we'd scored this season and this is why. Carlisle either resigned themselves to ET or had hit the wall physically, but we were the only one who looked threatening in the last 10 minutes.

My M.O.M was clearly Frazer Richardson. After a poor game on Monday he was huge tonight, kept Hackney in his pocket for much of the game and looked threatening with the ball. I can't remember one wayward pass.

Credit also to Neil Kilkenny (would love to see him get a Socceroo callup in the coming months. Hell, if Leigh Broxham can get a game then Kilkenny should). His crafty passing and work rate was unsurpassed in the second half.

Jonathan Douglas. Another who didn't have a great game on Monday, but he played the holding role to perfection. Broke up play brilliantly and distributed the ball well.

Jonny Howson, the Babyfaced Assassin, invisible on Monday, name in lights today. His two goals will never be forgotten.

10/10 to the entire team, coaching staff, everyone. The job isn't done by any means but with momentum we're going to be hard to stop in 10 days time.

Now I'm off to apologise to the neighbours. ;)
