Following on from the 'Schulz Shines' thread, there have been some left of field matchups suggested for this week.

Maybe on a weekly basis, we can see if we can come up with some of these selections.

What are some of your left of field matchups. Please try and suggest something that just may work and will give us an unexpected advantage.

The first 2 on the table are:

Schulz to play on Riewoldt for the whole game
Hall to run with Dal Santo

Heard some dude on the radio saying we should play Staff in the ruck, with Otto defending (or vice versa perhaps) against Hamill or Gherig. Has some credibility to it ... would it work?

In doing that, we are pretty much conceding defeat. Us Going into a match, saying our main objective is to try and defend the Saints forwards, gives them the impression that we think we can't win.

Lets go in like we did against the pies, and send these sainters back to hell!

Hartigan's been impressive and I think he is a better bet on Milne than Rodan
Agree with both there. Although Milne doesn't usually kick big bags, he can still really hurt when it matters. Go Hartigan.

Put Peggy Fleming on Milne and just tell
him to beat the **** out of the little in-bred.

Punch his kidneys, elbow his nose, smash his face into the turf
give him wedgies,
- just give it to him...can't stand the guy.

We used to have a quick forward who went by the name 'Swooper'. With this in mind, maybe we can call Milne 'Swapper'?

Allegedly.

Memo Danny Frawley:

THE BEST FORM OF DEFENCE IS TO ATTACK

Let's try and keep the ball down our end and we don't have to worry about Gherig, Hamill and co.

The only thing I want to see is Fleming hanging around Riewalt as much as can. Not as his direct opponent but just getting in his face occasionally.

ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK.

You're on the money TM. The best way to beat them is to throw the big guns forward. If we kick a few goals, they'll have to worry about dragging players like Gehrig in defence.

Ottens to play at CHF. Stafford can dominate the ruck with ease against the Saints.

My key match-up for the day is Ray Hall to play on the bench for his 50th.

That would rob us of probably our only advantage in the game... the ruck contests. StKilda dont have a ruckman and if we wasted ottens on the backline we'll get absolutely smashed. Let's focus on our strengths rather than worry about who's going to contain hamill and gehrig.

Don't like the sound of Harto on Milne, as we all know milne can be very damaging with only a few possessions and i would hate to see that sort of pressure on a young kid. As much as i hated when we picked up fletcher he could be useful this week, wouldn't mind seeing him on milney. Another idea that i have always had is to use Zantuck as a Solomon type, chuck him on a wing at the start and let him break open some packs.

BTW am i the only one who has gone off Rodan this year? He doesn't seem to be playing with the flare and excitement that we would like to see, is he being held back?

I just wish Hilton would be more accountable when he plays down back and Frawley would tell him to stop wandering up the ground when we've got the ball.

He'd beat Milne if he played him tight. His best games for us where when they played him as a tagger, even though he kept getting reported.

I thought round 1 was one of his best games for the club and round 2 one of his worst.

Zantuck is another option for Milne, although I'd like to see him on Hamill. He did alright on Medhurst for three quarters last year before he lost focus and concentration.

I agree. After round 1, I thought he may have matured as a player. Maybe he got carried away with his performance and thought it would all just happen in week 2.

I notice he has his picture on the cover of the AFL Season Preview 2004 which was handed out with the Record during the Wizard Wok series.

Looking at him there, he was pretty well cut with clear muscle definition and veins popping out. That seems to have dissipated this year. Maybe he is carrying a little extra pud and doesn't have enough fitness?

STafford may win hitouts but good luck running with Blake!!! Blake IS THE BEST watch how he runs forward free as a bird and goals !!! just watch that poetry in motion!! Staffords a goose like Knobel!

Don't be surprised if Ray Hall gets to run with Blake. Will do him in for pace and endurance.
