Hughsey in hospital with a punctured lung and broken ribs 😲
I saw the tweet thismorning and I thought "Wow, they're really milking this bit for all it's worth."

Part of the way it's being shared on social media (by sources like Channel 7 and the AFL whom I doubt would trivialise any player being hospitalised from a charity game) makes me think it's a wind up.

And yet... I'm buggered if I understand the popularity of Dan Gorringe. Say what you like about Dave Hughes, but if he's been pretty badly injured from a hit and giggle game for charity, it's bad form and big bad Mitch Robinson and Gorringe should probably take a look at themselves.

Hughes was definitely in on it but I doubt either Gorringe or Robbo are trained in slapstick comedy.

Crawf wont be feeling too great either with his specific instructions for players to target Hughesy

Gorringe did say on Wednesday during his podcast in a tongue and cheek joking sort of manner that he would be lining blokes up, mentioned Dylan Buckley for obvious reasons, but Dave Hughes was another he said he'd be lining up and getting stuck into so I'm not surprised it happened the way it did.

In future I'd love to see a game of

"Blokes who kept themselves in great knick" vs "Blokes who've really let themselves go"

The Let Themselves Go team can have like 6 extra players to compensate for being lard-arses.

After watching the second half I fully remember why I don't watch COMMERCIAL tv anymore.
What a joke. 4 goals in like 2 minutes and 4 sets of commercials.
Kudo's for them all getting out there and having a run. How good did Mcleod look.

Watched a few minutes.

It's a shame they turn it into such a circus and let some genuinely average or battler players out there (with all due respect to the modest, albeit elite AFL player base).

It would actually be a genuinely enjoyable match if there was proper criteria, such as:
  • Retired within last 5-10 years
  • Minimum games 100+

Letting hacks run around with media idiots wasn't amusing.

Some serious salt for a charity game. 😐
According to these blokes it should be a "serious game" with "actual legends" as they call it. It was one of the best Legends Games they've done.

I'm still cackling at the amount of bitterness/jealousy all the old blokes on commentary clearly have for the Prime Train and Dan Gorringe types because they resonate more with audiences nowadays than them.

All the "Oh he's a podcaster/tik toker as if it was a bad thing.

They underestimate how crucial social media is for brand growth nowadays. Maybe if they took a page out of Dan's book they'd be as popular as he is.

Gorringe has an audience and milks it. That said, anybody over the age of 16 who actually finds him entertaining probably isn’t the brightest spark.

Excuse my ignorance, but wtf is Gorringe?

If you're for real.

He was listed at GCS and Blues. Didn't have much of a career as such, but is IMO a funny bloke on the socials, and appears to be an absolute die hard Blues fan living the ups and downs of their last few years haha.

I didn’t realise BT posted on BigFooty! Any chance you can start getting player names correct during games BT?

I think you will find this is why the AFL has absolutely zero to do with this game
Well apparently they do as the AFL Integrity Unit sent Gorringe an email saying he would be fined $7500 for flipping the bird (as a joke) during the game a few times and it needs to be paid within 14 days.

If that’s the path the AFL want to go down, good luck ever having this game again and attracting over 30k to it. I highly doubt he actually pays the fine, but to even think this was a good path to go down just says everything about how poorly the game is run atm.

That never happened. Think about it. This is a match organised and played outside of the authority of the AFL. They can't fine anyone involved. You've fallen for it.
