Another shameless plug.....

Port missed out on September action in the SANFL, but not at the Legends of SANFL - new pages for Cunningham, Elleway,Fragomeni, Granger, Hodges, Obst and Potter. Also a new Geof Motley pic and a shocking Ebert photo.

New pages also for Robin White and Greg Turbill.

The Port theme continues in the VFL castoffs with Whatman and Knight, as well as Jeff Fehring. Also some classic Budgets from 1968 and 1982.

Is Inglis a misconception? That's how it has always been spelled in the media.

Onya MacAlmanac. Good stuff. Just a bit of editorial comment tho ... Granger broke Steven Barratt's leg in the 1982 Prelim Final which Port lost by one point, the same game he clobbered Cornes in (and a few others including Maynard, Sewer and Carey). He cracked Twiggy Caldwell in the 1981 GF (an incident which allegedly precipitated Caldwell's retirement), copping a 6 game suspension when Harry Kernahan produced a video of the incident. It was I believe the first trial by video in the SANFL. Controversially at the time, after serving his 6 game suspension at the start of the 1982 season he was brought straight back into the league team to face, of all teams, Glenelg - a game strangely free of incident.

Inglis is the correct spelling. He was on KG and Cornes' "Where are they now" segment quite recently and said that even though his surname is spelt Inglis it is pronounced Ingalls, that is where the confusion may have come about.
 
Mac, great work. There is one thing you may be able to add to the Robert Whatman spiel. He used to have the unnering habit of running down the field with the ball tucked under one arm, like a rugby player, which made it difficult to bounce the ball. It used to be great fun to watch him play. A small thing, but it made him one of a kind.

the incident which did precipitate Twiggy's retirement.

I've read an interview with Twiggy (post retirement) where he made a few pointed remarks about Granger. I'll see if I can dig it up.

After all of the discussion of litigation appearing on these boards lately, I thought I'd take the soft option and insert the word "allegedly" ;) . I recall a fairly sizeable article on Twiggy in the Sunday Mail a few months after his retirement. I suspect that's the one you remember.

Played from around 1975 til 78. I think he was recruited about the same time as Tim Evans.

McAlmanac - just thought id tell you that Scotty Hodges kicked 100 goals in three seasons, not two. He also kicked 100 in 1996, kicking the ton in the last minor round game against West Adelaide and ending up with 117 for the year.

Corrected. I think I got that gem from the Port Magpies website(!).
 
I think he played in the 1976 GF (but to be honest I have tried to block out that entire day ;) ). He didn't play in the 1977 GF.

You are absolutely right. He played in 76 but not 77. In fact he kicked Port's only two goals with the breeze when they kicked with the gale in the first quarter of the 1976 Grand Final.

I was at that game (North were in the reserves GF) and still don't remember him.Gees being forty is starting to kick in!
