Do all AFL players shave their legs now?

and Why?

I can't remember the last time I actually saw a footy player with hairy legs

you don't see too many but adam goodes is an exception

All I'm going to say is I'm a girl with a pretty high pain tolerance and I can tell you that removing damn medical tape is a hell of a lot more painful then wax and I don't blame professional sports men who might get knee taping (like I did) or something wanting to get rid of the hair because it hurts.

I tape my ankles and only shave them.....I look like a dick.

Yup, which is why I shaved/waxed all of my legs. Haha.

Especially if you get the tape wet before you take it off... rookie mistake to shower with your ankles taped. Haha

lol. Shaving because the strapping hurts! Have AFL footballers all turned into nancy boys these days or what? :o

Manscaping for anything other than operational procedures is...bizarre.

My women love to run their fingers through my back hair.

How do your men feel about it?

Just like cycling, if there is hairy legs and it is raining it can make the person more dense and therefore harder to run.

Underarms are more prevalent in dudes with shoulder tape. I never had my shoulders taped but saw guys trying to get that last bit of tape from under the armpit

I had my shoulder taped last week and will probably need to do so again this week. I don't have any hair on my shoulder or back fortunately but I might need to give the old pit hairs a bit of a trim this week so they don't get in the way.

Whenever I hear of a man going a full-body wax I think of this:

Back in my day you ended up with no hair on your bad leg regardless of shaving. You either shaved or it was ripped off with the tape.
In the end shaving was and still is a better option than ripping off tape post match, if only because it wasted precious drinking time.:)

That's true, nothing worse than trying to rip tape off your legs when they aren't shaved. Painfull as hell and takes a lot longer.

No doubt some guys just shave their legs because they like the look but most would do it for strapping purposes.

Practical reasons aside for a moment, if players are doing it for appearance or feel, what's wrong with that? We don't need body hair (we're not cavemen who require insulation from the elements, which was the original purpose of body hair from what I understand), and it just looks unsightly IMO compared to a smooth, hairless appearance, particularly when you're a hard-working, sweating athlete.

Men don't need nipples either, doesn't mean we cut them off.

Don't you guys see what’s happening? The feminising of men is what.

For decades we had to listen to women complaining about having to conform to a certain appearance and us men arrogantly scoffing at it feeling all superior because no one gave a damn how we looked. Now ‘men’ and I use that term loosely are going straight down that path. Those that don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. Enough is enough; I'm keeping my hairy legs, genitals and back. Wearing what I am comfortable in and not what is fashionable, The rest of you can go and get a manicure, as that’s the next step. Who’s with me?

Thank christ for that, Thread is now officially Un-Ghey :thumbsu:

Hygiene as well.. I used to wax when I did Personal Training part time then had IPL (so now don't need to).. I didn't do it for the cosmetics.. more for the hygiene... without the hair your sweat doesn't smell anymore (oils from your hair no longer mix with your sweat)..

I do not understand how anyone can not, at the very least, trim their pubic hair.

If not for aesthetics, then for the basic, minimum standards of hygiene.

Same goes for armpit hair.

Wax it all off! armpits the works. I love swimmers for that reason its hot (I'm a chick btw). On topic - they probably do it because of the tape. Pulling hair hurts :( like a bandaid but worse!

I'm half Italian and my dad is from nothern england (they're called northern monkeys for a reason) so I can see where a lot of the guys are coming from

I recently did my ankle and required it to be strapped etc. and by god it hurt taking that tape off afterwards - especially when my ankle hurt in the first place

Whenever I get a gash on my leg/arm that requires something like a bandaid or a bandage to protect it, I'll go ahead and shave the area - not only does the bandage no longer hurt when it comes off but it stays on for longer because it's a smooth application and there's no hairs creating air-bubbles between the adhesive stuff and the skin

Strapping would also stay on longer and more effectively for that same reason

I had a look at a poster from 2002 and hardly anyone shaved their legs then - weird to see

I don't think THAT many shave their legs and thighs. You get the pretty boys like LeCras, Carrazzo and Swallow that obviously wax all over their bodies - but whilst it looks like heaps of players shave their legs on the TV, if you look closely* they have hair, just not much of it - which makes it look like they shave.

*no homo
