It has been reported in the times today that contract talks have broken down and Dockers defender Leigh Brown will go into the open market for a new team.
It is reported that the dockers offered him $700,000 over three years but this was rejected, how much is he worth?
Some clubs are expected to offer over 1 million for three years.
He is part of the clubs future or will he be lost?

I believe he is a must keep for the club, but if he is going to try and do a number on us monetary wise let him go and join the Jeff[SOOKY ] White club.If they are not interested inbeing to help us help them succeed the P'them off.Its either they are for Freo or they are for themselves and I know which I would prefer.

if leigh brown is playing the game he loves and always has then money should not be the issue i know that if i was playing professional netball which i would love to do i'd only be playing because i love the game not because i want the money
sure money is good but as they say "money can't buy you happiness"
so lets just hope he makes the right choice and stays with freo

Dockerbabe - you have to remember that football is their career as well. If someone offers you the same job with a higher pay packet, plus the chance to return home to their native state - the chances are that they will go unless something good is keeping them from moving. Instability in the Fremantle Coaching/Management plus the lack of on-field success has been the major factor in all of this.

First of all just on the original topic, that would be a setback if you lost him. Sabre rates him pretty highly and i respect that opinion. Means you may have to put Pavlich back there next year, which means there is a hole at half forward.

Now dockerbabe, i find that anyone that says 'money cant buy you happiness' is either dead broke or in a severe state of depression.
Football is this guys career, its like web designer or carpenter. If you got offered $400,000 to do 10 cabinets, or $450,000 for 10 cabinets, what one would you pick?? I think most people would choose the higher paid jobs.
Same with footy players...it may seem like he is being a traitor etc. but think about. This guy could have a family in the next few years, he may do a knee and never be the same players, being dropped in 2 years time. If Freo wont equal another clubs offer then they mustnt really want him that much. He has to think about his life as well.

I do rate Brown very highly.
Main reason I like this guy so much he because he is pasionate, this is something that our big men lack.
He is tough as well and in a few years when he is older, having him on the field will be very much like having barry hall on the field for the saints.
Every player walks a little taller knowing that barry is backin them up and in this case leigh.

Not only is he tough but he has ablility, he reads the play exceptionally well and is a strong mark. His only downfall is his lack of pace.

This guy is a prioirity signing, he is the heart and the soul of the club. And has expressed his happiness at the club, he also said that he wanted to play his entire career at the once club.

If I had a choice out of loosing Pavlich of Brown.I would probally take brown, on the basis is that I dont think the Pavlich is happy and we will eventually loose this guy.It is better we loose him earlier than later.

In an ideal situation, we would keep both, but its still a 50/50 chance of keeping both.

Ill repeat it, brown is not only the future as far as performance goes but as far as passion and soul of the club. This guy is a coaches dream and a opositions worst nightmare, as far as toughness and intimidation.

He is also in my opion a prime candidate for captain in 5-7 years.Very much the same menatlity as woosha.

Goeagles:
Instability and lack of success is not the reason we loose players, nor the reason that Brown is looking elsewher. He is merely leaving his options open and waiting for freo to offer him more money.Like all big name players he is waiting till the end of the season.

Freo you must sign these kids before you attempt to chase coaches or out of contract players.

I would doubt Fremantle will lose any of their key players this season. The reason? The club holds all the cards. They have the probable 1st pick in both drafts.

Say Brown wants to go. Where? Essendon? OK. So how's he going to get there?

Trade - Fremantle would want a bloody good deal. And they'd be likely to get it, seeing as though Essendon have sweet phuc all chance of getting him through the draft. It's pretty much the same with any club. It wouldn't just cost them money, it would cost them some very high draft picks and/or class players.

Draft - Would anyone want to put themselves through that with no guarantee of where you could end up? Fremantle will have the first pick, West Coast will have the 2nd, St Kilda will have the 3rd. He won't want to go to the Eagles, and there's no way St Kilda will be able to afford him given they blew their salary cap on a bunch of hacks. Is it really worth $20-$30,000 a year to put yourself through that sort of uncertainty when you can get a quarter of a million a year guaranteed? I doubt it.

I'm guessing Brown has a good agent and is just holding out for a bit more cash, at least I hope so.

What intrigues me is the offers he was getting from some of the Vic teams. $900 000 over three years from Collingwood! Now I don't claim to be an expert on salary cap issues, but how the hell can these teams free up so much of their salary cap without changing their squad much? Has Bucks gone on to that very suspect "veterans" list or something?

not having seen the article in the Sunday Times I can't really comment but I would ask the following question:

Is it true or are the sunday times making things up to sell papers?

RacerX im not sure what you mean.

I don't know anything about Brown leaving the first I heard of was this morning when I logged on to big footy. What I do know is that the Sunday Times seem to dish up some real sensational stories and there is very little substance behind them. Maybe Im just to cynical for my own good but I don't generally believe a lot that the sunday times prints.

Oh right, you were joking. I thought you seriously knew something about the STimes making stuff up.

I agree with you about the paper though - some very dodgy stuff gets printed in there. If you watched that "State of the game" television show on Friday night you would have seen one of the Sunday Times journos in action. He was attacking the umpires representative about the umpiring in the Round 1 Carlton game. Talk about going off on a tangent - I thought he looked like a bit of a tool after that.

And the quality in the Worst Australian is good.Really!
Both are crap papers that sponsor the West Coast Eagles is that why you want them to print on Sunday. The West I am talking about.

Just to put the finishing touches on this saga, Leigh Brown has signed a three year deal with the Dockers yesterday.
As someone said- Sunday Times don't let the facts get in the way of a good story.

done deal

Heard on the radio this morning that it is as good as a done deal.Brownie will re sign with the dockers either today [Wednesday] or tomorrow. The figure is supposed to be $700,000 for three years.A good out come for all concerned.    :p

Brown Signs!!!

Re: Browns loyalty/attitude. Good call sabre.

Great to see Leigh Brown has signed on. He made some fantastic comments on the news about wanting to be part of the future of the Dockers and not running back to Victoria.

A rare breed indeed.

A definite future club leader.

well i knew he would stay because he is a loyal player
he stated that the members supporters the club and players have all been very loyal to him and now he is going to be loyal to them and he said he wanted to be apart of the succesful future of the fremantle dockers
he obviously isnt one of those players that will go anywhere for the money it isnt a factor he is being loyal
