Whats the chances of Lethal being involved in GC17 next year and then becoming their first senior coach in a couple of years time??

McKenna to the Lions and Lethal to GC17??

Rick MacGowan (Sturt/SANFL) might apply - very highly-rated coaching prospect here - although he's more likely to be offered an assistant's role somewhere first, a la Clarko.

Gary Ayres will no doubt throw his hat in the ring for the 3000th time.

ya've got your Black's and ya Brown's and ya Bradshaw's...........

I voted other - what about Malcolm Blight for next 2 years and then get Vossy back when he has served his 2 year apprenticeship in Perth with the weagles.

Its not really an enviable position to be in really... timing wise.

The coach essentially has to come in and cull players from the list.

Would immediately put them under the scrutiny of the playing group... "Who does this bloke think he is? He has been here two weeks and thinks he can sack my mates?".

Choppy seas ahead.

Matthews is staying around for a few weeks.

He will help sort a lot of it out.

If Voss gets the job , will the club be looking for a director of coaching like Conolly at Melbourne. Who would be in line for that position?

Just heard on ABC West Coast have given Vossy permission to negotiate with the Lions, stated they wouldn't stand in his way if he wanted the job.

Hmm...

I love Vossy, don't get me wrong. But I don't think he is ready.

In all honesty I wuld prefer vossy serve some time as an assistant elsewhere for a year or 2 and then come to us.

sad to see leigh leave brisbane are a great coaach that won 3 preimerships for you a true champion coach
i think it is perfect timing as leigh new in his heart the time was right to go
i wish the lions all the best for 09
and micheal voss will be a very good coach
also great to see that brown resigned a loyal player:):):)

I want Voss but I think they might give it to Leppa which I don't mind.

Sometimes clubs might like to shake up players with a coach from the outside but I'm not sure our situation as a team is that bad.

This might be Voss's only window to coach the Lions (ie Matthews and Hawthorn Sheedy and Richmond). I don't think Voss is ready (ie Shaw at Collingwood), BUT will we be sitting here in 15 years trying to work out a way to get him back at athe Club.

DO we roll the Dice? It is an intersting Dilemma I can't answer, will be interesting to see how it pans out over the next month.

Paul Roos....yes, great idea

I think he would be a perfect fit

The day we start playng football in the style of the Sydney Swans is the day I walk away from the Lions and AFL. I hate hate hate watching Sydney play, never do I want to leave a game no matter the scoreline but this year I was ready to go home at half trime when we played the Swans.

Can someone across the technology please also put up a survey on who we definately dont want as coach. And put Buckley's name there. He had his chance to make a contribution when we were struggling. I dont want him back now.

Interesting comments with lessening the burden on whoever steps into the void. Would be unenviable on a new coach to sack players immediately.

"Matthews will remain with the club for the immediate future to help complete a full post-season review and list management process. This is expected to include overseeing the AFL draft and the appointment of a new coach."

as I said in a previous pst - what is to stop us from a 2 year deal wth someone (I would be happy with Malcolm Blight) who knows up front it is a 2 year deal and then get Vossy once he has served his time at the weagles and gained some coaching experience.

I really really don't want leppa as head coach.

Interim coaches rarely work. Why should players respect someone who is just there for 2 years to cash their paycheck?

Voss coaching us is a nice fairytale, but going to such extraordinary lengths such as appointing interim coaches just to facilitate the fairytale down the line seems a bit silly to me.

Roos &/or Blakey................... GOLD!!!!!!!
Retiring is the honerable thing to do, for a coach who has "lost" the playing group and so clearly failed this year.
