Clever boy is Leon. By avoiding the poison chalice that is Essendon and going to Hawthorn for more experience in a different environment, he is obviously poised to take over from Eade when he wraps things up in 2-3 years time.

He also doused speculation he was headed to Waverley to work as an assistant coach to Alastair Clarkson.

WESTERN Bulldogs assistant coach Leon Cameron has quit the club to take a job at Hawthorn.

Cameron has been an assistant at Whitten Oval for seven years following a 256-game career with the Bulldogs and Richmond.

Hawks coach Alastair Clarkson today welcomed Cameron to his coaching team.

“Leon is an outstanding coach and has a great understanding of the modern game and its various game styles,” Clarkson said.

In that case, I hope that Tony Liberatore replaces him. I liked what he said in how he would tackle tagging Dane Swan.

What qualifications does Libba have....apart from being a sacked assistant coach at Carlton? Can't imagine Libba coaching a team with his own son on the list. Sounds like under 11's.

I think Libba is a journeyman coaching in the suburban leagues. He recently coached West Footscray in the WRFL for one season without much success but also with a very ordinary list.

I would think if he had any coaching ability he would at least target the VFL level.

I think we need to shake up the MC anyway. Cameron seems pretty switched on but time at another club as a coach will be good for him. He may one day be in line for our main job who knows.

But I think the MC has been very ordinary this year. The selections, the game style change and management of injured players I think from the outside was ordinary. Cameron is part of that.

Seems to me there are lots of great assistants out there. Good to see some changes.

One name I find interesting in the assistant coaches at St Kilda this year is their Development and assistant coach, Brian Royal.

Good luck to Cameron at the Hawks. A change will do both parties good and he may be back in the head coaches seat in a few years.

What about Dean Laidley as an assistant coach? He is considered a good tactican and may bring some fresh ideas to the MC?

I remember that he took Box Hill to a GF, didn't he? He's a very decorated player who possibly, in recent history, has copped some flak for his opinions. I thought he had some form as a coach but maybe not.

I agree mate. It was a good thing for the club and for Leon to go somewhere else and get a little bit of experience under another coach...that being said....Clarkson? Reckon there were better options for him. Hopefully we can get an new assistant coach with some new ideas and someone that will challenge Eade, intellectually and tactically.
