Leon Davis last night thoughts

The way I see it. The way we play it is more the midfielders geting opportunites from 40 to 45 metres out.

Also I think that opposition clubs are tagging Leon from the forward pocket. Use Sat night as an example. Harbrow is great at reboundiong out of the dogs defensive 50 but he does not pay enough attention to Leon who then plays good against him. Eade decided to not play Harbrow on Leon and used a player to just negate Leon all night not to rebound. That is showing that the Dogs knew that Leon was a threat. I see that as a mark of respect from the opposition for Leon.

Although this has not been his greatest season I believe he is still a better option than Medders or Tarks.

Something to keep in mind is that in our 2 encounters against the Bullldogs in the H&A season Leon played quite well.

Round 1: 11 disposals, 3 goals, 4 tackles
Round 11: 16 disposals, 3 goals, 2 tackles

So he matches up well against them. In finals type pressure?

QF: 8 disposals, 1 goal, 2 tackles

Fell right away. All signs pointed to him ripping the game open once again, but as he does in finals, went MIA. Now we're looking at a game against Geelong, his stats against them?

Round 9: 9 disposals, 0 goals, 2 tackles
Round 19: 7 disposals, 0 goals, 3 tackles

All I can say is "uh oh"

Leon has been in the pocket all year and look at the season we have had so far -If it aínt broke then don't fix it I say.
When we have someone who can offer more than Leon sitting on the sidelines then call for his relegation, but as far as I can tell it has been the know it alls from outside the club who have been making these noises and those supporters who listen to them.
We have barely put a foot wrong this season with brilliant list management and team selection- I am placing my faith the match committee and at the moment Leon is our man.
This being our biggest problem in the finals campaign just leaves me to say "BRING IT ON".:thumbsu:

Considering Davis has b arely left the 50 this year and the amount of time the ball spends in the Collingwood forward 50, he should be first in the league for tackles inside the forward 50. Considering his sympathisers seem to be suggesting that defensive pressure is his role and it doesn't matter what he offers offensively, I'd sure like to see him apply more defensive pressure when the ball is kicked long and he is the only player at home. Playing from behind and occasionally jumping wiht one arm in the air hoping, isn't really cutting it. He's been consistently murdered in this situation and has allowed the ball to be cleared way too easily. And with our style of play it's a situation that occurs regularly.

Well our selection policy apparently is to pick our best 22 based on the opposition - with those figures you'd believe Leon wouldn't be picked in a side vs Geelong.

Bet he will be in the side though.

Averages the 4th most in the league per game with 1.5 so he has certainly done well in that regard. Didn't manage any on the weekend though.

Somewhat ironically Medhurst is 6th in the league averaging 1.4.

Don't you know what would happen without that extra .1 of a tackle a game???

As others have mentioned running around trying to lay tackles but doing nothing else isn't a quality that is unique to Leon, any player is able to do this.

He won't get dropped though but don't expect him to do much more or pull something out of nothing, has a history of doing nothing in September and this year he looks less likely than any other of changing that.

interesting to see how many pie fans think that leon getting 8 touches or watever means he should be dropped and is finished.

No wonder we get tagged as feral supporters.

Leon from his extremely limited opportunites was a combined 1 meter away from having 3 goals instead of 1.
He set up 3 or 4, and his pressure was fine.

Grow a football brain doubters.

You know we could play anyone on the list if we just wanted someone who can tackle right? Tackling isn't some amazing skill only a few players possess, any player with 2 legs and 2 arms can do it. Same with the 'pressure' he brings.

So according to your theory, we can put Fraser in his spot then and he would do the same job chasing players and tackling, sure. :thumbsu:

Sure. Why not? If we want a player who does nothing but chase and tackle Barham would be a better choice though, he's fast and has two legs. Shit disposal but if our expectations are so low that getting 6 touches is a-ok it shouldn't be an issue. Davis is not a tackling, pressuring prodigy, ANY player can do it. ANY player.

Hell, even 1 goal from Leon is better than the 6 clangers that Barham would dish up.
