I don't like Rex Hunt. I don't like racism. But it's quite clear to me that Rex got his words mixed up and had no intention of making a racist comment. He apologised immediately and explained himself well.

Why hasn't Neon accepted the apology and moved on? he's put his team mates in a situation where they have to back him up. I bet many of his team mates feel like many on this board here - racism isn't on but this was a genuine mistake and Neon should move on.

A simple statement like, "I was offended and I don't condone racism but I accept Rex's apology and that no harm was intended" would have cleared it up.

This was one. If Leon really sat down and listened to it in the context that it was broadcast on air, then even he would have a chuckle.

I read it and thought it would have just been an accidental stumble of words , but after hearing the audio it sounds alot worse than I first thought.

I don't think he went out to deliberately villify him but if he was more concerned about calling the action in context rather than being a smart-arse it would never have happened in the first place.

I'm sure we'll be subjected to pre-match talkback callers backing Hunt and telling him what a great man he is , like we've been subjected to in the past with him and Walls (particularly after the Strempel incident).

Theres a difference between being offended at what was said but realising it was a stuff up, and accusing someone of intentionally saying a derogatory remark, refusing to accept an apology and threatening to take someone to court over what was a stuffed up comment.

I'm no fan of Rex Hunt's but to me it seems he has made an honest, if stupid mistake.

Leon should accept his apology and move on. If he still feels aggrieved, he should try and work it through with Hunt via mediation. I very much doubt his case to 'sue' Hunt would stand up in court.

On another note, it's always disappointing to see so much racism on this board.
Too many small minded people spewing racist bile at any opportunity.
Makes me a little embarrassed to be here really.

Rex needs to understand that not everyone likes his commentay.
Nicknames were a novelty back when Mil Hanna (the Cranium) played but now it seems so boring with every player seeming to have some sort of different identifying reference.

Listening to Rex and how rude he is to the talkback callers makes me think that this wasn't a slip of the tongue. Just someone who's ego has taken over.

hunt is a ********wit and his commentary style died 5 years ago.
davis is aggrieved but needs to get over it but has apoint as far as other black footballers have aired grievances of a similar nature.

They told me they would not be offended one bit, as the comment WAS NOT SUPPOSED TO COME OUT LIKE THAT. You are saying that Rex deliberately said it. You are clueless. I don't like Rex, but this has been blown way out of proportion.

And the idiotic comparison you put up about Hird being called a White Dog, I would not be offended one bit if it was used in the same passage of commentry.

If you have some black friends who are offended by it, they need to grow some balls, and a functioning brain which can tell the difference between a deliberate act as opposed to a slip up.

Nothing in it at all. I hate rex hunt as much as anyone, but I've heard him saying that "black as a dog's guts" comment a few times, was obviously a slip of the tongue. But given how over-the-top PC everyone is these days, no doubt this will get plenty of mileage.

This whole situation is a farce. Rex made a stupid comment. He apologised. It was not a racist comment, but I can see how it could be construed that way. The media get a hold of it and blow it out of the water. I couldn't give a crap about it. I just can't fathom the absolute stupidity the Australian media churns out on a daily basis.
