It's not a case of one of the other. We can have both, if we choose to do so.

We currently have 4 list vacancies, one of which is likely to be filled through the PSD.

Would love to have him. Add some competition for that "Attacking HB Flanker" role. A role I reckon Smith/Martin/Tamling may be eyeing off if Johncock continues to play up the ground more.

It makes no sense to compare them to one another in any case. They'd be in the team for completely different reasons, and are quite different players.

Davis would add a lot of McLeod-like smoothness to our operation. He's obviously nowhere near that league, but he does possess a lot of those silky qualities. He'd be a handy pick-up.

Not just an AFL head, he doesn't have a human head. He can't help it, I don't think he makes conscious decisions that lead to his mistakes, he generally can't help being a dick. He's a nice guy and tries, but just can't help being an idiot.

Again I say that LD would add a lot of value to our side...any one's side. Everyone seems to be concerned about his age. I think we could 2 maybe 3 years out of him but in that time the knowledge and skills that he can bring and teach our players would be invaluable. My biggest concern with LD is not his age but whether he would stay focused and whether he would try to have too high a profile. I liked his performance this year because he toned down his on field antics but I still reckon he brings more to the table and we should do whatever we can within our means to get him.

Yeah.. nah. Very few footballers play into their 30s because their bodies are shot - Australian Rules football is a far more physical game than cricket. Cricketers playing into their 30s is a relatively recent phenomenon as well, with most players being long since retired by that age before the game went completely professional.

Bradman played tests til 40 and Clarrie Grimmett didn't play for Australia til mid 40's. You are right that cricket is less physical in general but fast bowling in India is no picnic I imagine, Dougy and Johnson are 30 and are really just starting.

NFL has about 12 minutes of actually game time, of which half the side is off the ground at all times and only have 12 game H&A seasons. So 6 minutes x 12 games equals about 84 minutes of actual game play in a season? That's less than one whole game of AFL, which goes for 22 H&A rounds. AFL has 2 hours of constant running with only 3 out of 21 players on the bench at any one time and has no protective gear. NHL players also play for until their 40, but don't have the repeated and constant strain on the body. Big hits, but without the constant wear and tear of AFL players. AFL is empirically and statistically a much harder game to keep playing.

Bradman was exceptional - but it's also worth noting that he lost half his career due to WW2.

Sure, there are exceptions, but prior to players becoming full-time & highly paid it was very rare for them to go much beyond the age of 30. By that stage most of them were starting to think about their post-cricket careers and struggled to juggle the needs of playing & having a career. That all changed when the game went professional and they stopped having careers outside of cricket.

Once again, these are all exceptions. Evans is the oldest TDF winner in 50+ years. Whilst it's possible that Leon could go on to play for 4-5 more years, the odds against it are astronomical. There is nothing to indicate that Leon will still be going that far in the future, while there is plenty to indicate that he won't.

Might only be 12 minutes game time but the quarterback will have more than 50 possesions in that time and get hit 8-10 by 150 kilo linemen. definately not the same aerobic fitness needed but there certainly is in the Tour de France or the marathon.

Davis could easily give us 3-4 years of decent footy. He has played positions all his career that arent entirely taxing on the body as a KP, ruck or midfielder has. As a HB and small forward you don't exactley have a heap of contested footy. I am all for us grabbing him through the PSD at around $250k a year.

Would definitely have a crack at Davis if the price is right, once again the dumb perfect AFC mentality has reared its head on this board, how about for a change we go out on a limb and have a crack at a genuinely good player who we could possibly get 2-3 years out of with a bucket load of AFL experience and is an AA, he isnt no dud and actually has won games off his own boot in the past.

Callinan will never play in the guts on a full time basis at AFL level. He would be man handled EASILY by Swan, Pendlebury, Judd, Ablett etc. He's just way too small.

5 cm is a lot in football and us easily the difference between being able to play a position and not.

Maric was 5 cm bigger than Tex for example.

Regardless davis would be considered small, that makes callinan minute and one of the smallest in the afl, which would make it all the harder to be the clearance king you suggest.

The thought of LD, Jaensch and Stiffy rebounding from halfback has me drooling. Pick him up if he wants to come. He could give us three or four years of top footy.
