i don't understand how he can even be a chance for adelaide. pies are saying each year it's been getting harder and harder to get him back from perth due to his closeness to family. now he's decided he won't be getting on a plane and going back to melbourne. but he will get on a plane and go to adelaide. so, i can't see how it has anything to do with his family at all. i suspect it's all about money, but he can't be seen to be saying that. in any case, he's far too old for crows/power, but not for freo/eagles who could challenge. and yet they've both come out saying definately no and highly unlikely.
We will agree to disagree on that one, there was a reason he ended up in a forward spot in that GF.

Ha ha ha, on that basis BigFooty would shut down. I don't get it, are you saying the fact I never made it to the AFL means I am not qualified to rate LD's absolutely terrible GF returns? Isn't he 1/4 for GF usefullness? Or was MM really rating him when he dropped him from the GF rematch last year? As if he's going to say, "pretty good player but rubbish when the heat is on". As for Tall Poppy Syndrome, leave the big words to the adults mate. I'm happy to talk up players I think are good, and I'll happily discourage us from players i think are of zero value to us.
So... on his fifth try in a GF, he might do okay? I hope he signs up for a team that makes the GF this year!

Davis played his first GF as a skinny 19 yr old in wet conditions, just wasn't his cup of tea, his second was obviously a year later and he wasn't the only one who went missing that day, forget about last years GF, he was injured and didn't play well for most of the season, his overall finals record isn't anywhere near as bad as people make out, personally i thought he was ok in this years GF, certainly wasn't our worst.
FWIW he doesn't suit you with your window where it is though, would suit one of the WA clubs though IMO.

I'd be surprised if one of the WA clubs didn't take him. If the Eagles are looking to make a run at the flag this year, they'd be crazy not to at least try and grab him via the PSD.

Leon is actually an AA player.* $300k is only about $50k more than the average payment for a player, and that includes your first and second year players on a base rate.
Hell, I'd consider it. I think sometimes you can cut too close to the bone employing the Pelchen method of only playing players who will be around for your next premiership. He's certainly cheaper than Tambling was!
But its a moot point anyway. Freo or WCE will pick him up for sure.

Just one more thing, every premiership team in history has had players who under performed in GFs, same as every premiership team has players who have over performed, yet, without those players who under performed those teams probably never would've made the GF to begin with, the thing about winning premierships is 9/10ths of the battle is actually getting there. IMO (Insert Collingwood jokes here)

A quick fix hey?? Gun player, no question. What is wrong with developing the players we already have off half back? If we pick him up there goes an opportunity for a player we want to see given ago cross half back. We are not challenging for the flag, and he would have what 2 years max left? No, thanks, not where we are at of profile of our squad.

Definately not worth a national draft pick, even with a shallow draft this year.

I'd rather that money be saved for when we have a player (one of our many half backs) get good enough to demand that sort of money.
Fair enough.
I'm not an advocate for this, nor do I think it is a genuine possibility, I just think the negative reaction was disproportionate to the merit of the idea.

Oh look if we were at the same place Freo is, I would be up for it. He is a bloody good player and has proved he is worth that much.
I just don't think he will make that much difference to our side that it is worth stopping a youngster who is playing well.

Love Leon as player, but realistically we're not going to be challenging for a flag till around 2015, at which point he will be 34 years of age.
Would be seriously tempted to get him (especially if it didn't cost us much), but he seems a much better fit for the Eagles or Freo who are much closer to Top-4 status than us.

There are also a few other names on our list that come out of contract next year, keep some money aside for their probably pay increases. I'm sure Tippett and Danger won't be looking for a pay cut in 2013...
