By the sounds of the press conferences and player interviews, it feels like the selection panel won't budge and give Medders, Tarks or Goldy a chance. Which is unfortunate, what are my fellow supporters thoughts on this?

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

Buckley didn't sound too pleased about Leon's game from his presser saying he was "fair". I'm not sure what that means for his chances but it doesn't look too good.

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

They stuck with him for granny 1 and i cont see him being dropped

he was absolutely woeful, but he'll most likely play as much as i hate to say it

Look out BT, Neon Leon is about to ignite. That's what I think.

Yeah i felt mix messages fron Bucks too, I just hope they let for someone else with a bit more hunger to come in for him. He just doesn't seem to have that drive anymore.

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

Yeah, unfortunately OP, I'm of the same thinking.

And it terrifies me that they'll go into another Grand Final with 21 players. It really beggars belief.

Think he'll keep his place in the side. May not deserve but Mick has stuck by him all year, dont think he would give up now. I would of liked to see Medhurst given a chance. I think right now he has more to offer then Leon but its too late too bring someone in after playing one game in the past couple months

Davis out, Goldsack in. At least Goldsack can play a role at either end.

We will see come Thursday night.

Then we will see come Saturday afternoon at about 1-1.30pm.

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

I trust the coaching panel to get it right. They got us this far so why question them now?

Remember Baker will be stuffed this week, players always struggle second week back after a big break.

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

There is absolutely no chance Tarks or Medhurst will come into the side. They've been out too long, and won't have the touch.

If any change is going to be made, it's Goldsack and/or Presti coming in... surely. I wouldn't be surprised if Leon was selected again just for the sake of having someone down forward who knows what they're doing.

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

Being at the game... and personally expecting Leon to win us the game off his own boot in the last quarter I watched him closely in that time. He looked extremely dangerous in that last quarter and nearly won the game off his own boot in that time.

He looked magnificent in that last quarter with very limited opportunities... he was creating serious options in that time, most of those options were ignored for big men 1 on 1 contests.

Davis should not be dropped - he is ready to explode.

I agree. I remember, as pissed as I was, yelling out that bloody Leon had showed up possibly too late. I honestly think they'll see it as though he was loosening up, and like you said: ready to explode.

I never thought I'd say this, but bring on Leon Davis!

God in heaven. Stop, just stop will you. Davis has never been ready to explode and will not ever, ever, ever be ready to explode. Not this year, not next year, not ever. If he plays next week you'll see his standard finals contribution, around half a dozen touches, 2 tackles and maybe an arsey goal if we're lucky.

Davis cannot handle finals football, that is undisputable undeniable fact. Please stop spreading false hope by suggesting he will ever play well in any sort of final, thank you.

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

Yeah, I do get the same impression. If they keep him in, let him have a go through the midfield and build early confidence.

You mean like one arsey goal he made out of nothing that lifted the Pies on Saturday and kept us in a game that has now resulted in a draw and we have another shot at the holy grail...

Would you rather he wasn't there and had not lifted the team... and lost?

He has played in 3 Grand Finals... the first 2 was very young and inexperienced and was massively shown up. Saturday, in the final quarter, the most pressure quarter of the year, he held his own and with more opportunities was putting himself in a position to win us the game - FACT.

You want to drop him because he didn't play well in 2003? I'll take his last quarters form over something that happened 7 and 8 years ago thanks.

You can apologize to Neon next Saturday night.

(P.S:- a little more respect is deserved for a member of the Black and White army who will go to war this week, if you have nothing good to say about anyone at Collingwood - don't say anything)

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

Ahh Smokey had we had a different player putting in a better contribution over a longer period of time we probably wouldn't have ever been in that position. We would have won the grand final and not needed a replay.

I don't want him dropped because he didn't perform in 2003, he hasn't performed in any final over his whole career. He wasn't able to do it as a youngster. He wasn't able to perform in 3 finals last year despite being an AA player and he hasn't performed in 2 go's this year in the finals.

On top of that this year he has been average at best in the home and away season, it would be utterly suprising and unlikely for him to just "flick" the switch and play a good game.

I think the only way Leon is going to explode on the weekend is if your pet bird is named Leon and your planning on feeding him panadol.

Nope. I'd rather he wasn't there and we had a solid 4 quarter contributor in his place and won.

Come on now, in 2009 people were saying the EXACT same things. Leon was coming off a fantastic AA year and everyone was saying how it was his time to shine he was going to redeem himself, and all the rhetoric we've heard this year. It didn't happen. It didn't happen this year either.

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

Three weeks ago I said "if Davis plays we can't win a flag"...after last Saturday I wanted him out BUT I have another theory now..

I think we may go in unchanged so the same structures and gameplan can be reinforced. Remember we led all bar 5 minutes of the game. Davis might be the beneficiary of a "not so huge media circus" GF.

Davis place in the side will rest on match ups rather than form...if Goldsack is needed to run with someone or Blair's leg weary (young players tend to tire as the season wears on and he has had some big games recently) then who knows what will happen...either way I fully support the decision on team selection this week. There's more to this than a regular game.

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

I also feel he will stay in the side. Lets be honest, the goal that he did kick was pretty damn good, particularly at that stage of the match. I think it put us 14 points up? I was watching the game with a fair few Pies fans and non-Pies fans and we all agreed that one more goal after the Leon goal and the game was ours. We need more of this from Leon though (if they decide to keep him in) as he can definitely turn a game and provide us with a spark.

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

You'd have to assume Davis is in the team until he's not out there or on the bench when the siren sounds.

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

What I saw in that last quarter (I was in row 6, Great southern stand, on the 50 meter line)... he is ready. He had me excited.

Medhurst - not match fit, not ready, shown nothing this year... AT ALL.

Lockyer - Although he plays forward, plays a different role and can't see him creating as many opportunities as Leon did in that final term. How long has it been since Lockyer held his own in Collingwoods best 22? I think he is a bigger gamble than Leon... and Leons upside, lifts our entire team.

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

I'd love to see Medhurst come in....but he's been out for to long i'd think.

If Goldsack comes in, i think it will be for Blair (the young kid has done well but has looked off the pace the last 2 games).

Leon is the only small forward we have that could break the game open (due to Medhurst having no game time for the past 3 weeks and playing 2's).

IN: Goldsack
OUT: Blair

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

If you have a look through the games that the Saints have played this year, you'll actually see that none of the small forwards that they play against make an impact. Whether it be their defenders, the game plan or what ever, small forwards have a terrible record against the saints.

I'm just not convinced that taking Neon in again is the right thing to do, history in all parts is against Neon having a good game so why not just capitilise in an area where we know we can make a difference.

For me the difference is limmiting Goddards influence, we may lose 1 goal from Neon when he decides he would like to have a crack at it late in the 4th QTR or we can restrict Goddards ability to set up 3-4 goals through out the netire game.

Plan B for me and that's Glodsack.

Re: Am I the only one who feels the coaching staff is leaning towards keeping leon in the side again

Im on the fence with Leon. On one hand he appeared to not do much, on the other he only played 56% game time - so for the sake of argument he only was on the ground for 2 quarters and a bit.

I guess the question is, did he do little because he wasn't on the ground, or was he not on the ground because he was failing to do anything?
