the saddest part in all this will always be the stuff behind closed doors.

the line that got me the most was that his daughters were in tears on monday. being the father of 2 now grown up children who went to 6 different schools in around a 5 year time period it is always a very emotional time leaving friends and extended family behind.

really hope that Justin, Christie, Kya, Ava and Emily can have as smooth a transition as possible to the next stage of their life, i am sure they will. Leppas resilience would be a family trait.

Absolutely. But thats the industry their father has chosen to work in. I admire Leppitsch and his family. Great people. But its similar to a military life. Can get stationed anywhere. Ive found these types to be the most resilient of all. Good luck to leppa and family.

I think I Know the Guy, im personally not that keen. Apparently at his last club there was ths need for emergancy end of year reviews in 2 of his 3 years and both times the whole club review came back with really poor results for him, he also apparently really struggled to implimemt a game plan and his win loss was really, really bad. So its a pass from me at this stage, really classy character and I wish him well though.

Sounded clear to me that Leppa thinks Hanley might need a move (which is bizarre considering he signed a long term extension at the start of the year). Pretty much said after a while you just get fed up with a losing environment.

To me he also conceded Rockliff needs desperate leadership help.

I wouldn't call it a clip, I actually thought it was more a praise for how they handled the moving on of the older guard and looking to the future as opposed to what we did coming out of 2004.
 
Thought I'd compare our best 22 (subjective I know) from the team Leppa inherited, to the team he left us with today (ignoring injuries). The 2014 team I took was roughly based off our Round 1 side against Hawthorn that year. Players ages are in brackets in years at the time and I ignored months (too much work).

Few thoughts
*The age of our starting 22 has only dropped by 1 year overall since Leppa started, and thats even after taking Merrett out. This really surprised me as I thought we'd be a hell of a lot younger.

*If you look at the under 22 players I feel there is a lot more talent today then in 2014 (ignoring Taylor+Mayes who are still 22 or under and in both)
Aish Harwood Golby Close Paparone vs Andrews Gardiner Cutler McStay Hipwood Schache Keayes Mathieson. Give me the second lot any day of the week. That's a big tick.

*As everyone knows our midfield has clearly underperformed this year. Granted injuries have been a big issue, but purely judging off our age demographic, we really shouldn't have been smashed week in, week out in the middle. The boys are big enough in that part of the ground to handle themselves.

*The senior players around the ground is clearly the most obvious sign as to why we've struggled last 24 months. If nothing less the experience and bigger bodies of players like Patfull, Brown, Adcock, Staker, McGrath would really shield the younger boys and help direct and instruct play on field. Everyone knows this but it really has hurt big time this year with our lack of on field mature leaders

*Personally I don't think our list is in that bad of shape. Add another top 3 pick this year (hopefully 2) and bring in a key defender (McKenzie for mine) and I'd nearly back that same team in again for 2017 to finish with 6-8 wins. Hopefully we have a quality coaching and development team set and who knows what will happen. Maybe I'm being overly optimistic but I do see young talent coming through for the first time in a long time and I believe Leppa deserves credit for moulding this list towards the future.
 
I might do this again after trade/draft period and look how our starting 22 in 2017 compare with 2014. Maybe in more detail too (e.g. age/games etc).

Staker as well was another one who if he hadn't have had those knee injuries would of been good for us as well.

Nice analysis.
Just a quick comment on average age -- it is more significant than the 1.0 year difference between the two teams.
Given, all the players from the initial team are now two years older, and we've removed the ~30 year old players, the average age is not representative -- we actually skew much younger.

If Leppa still has ambitions to be Senior Coach maybe getting assistant coaching experience somewhere that is *not* Lions or Tigers (or Bears :$) would be a great idea - maybe somewhere with a system more entrenched above the mediocrity level?

I dont think he will ever get a senior coaching gig again. Dont mean to be harsh but cant see it happening. Incredibly highly regarded assistant no probs.
