Toast Lesson Learnt

The lesson I've learnt for the year?

If Collingwood decides they feel like playing remotely close to their best, it's a done deal.

I'm still flabbergasted that we're one poor umpiring decision from being undefeated and have played terrible football for about 24 out of 32 quarters.

There were two seperate groups of collingwood supporters who learnt their lessons yesterday. Both of them got up and left after Adelaide kicked their 2nd goal in the last term. Must feel a bit stupid now I dare say.

2009 Semi Final Adelaide vs Collingwood was when I learnt that Collingwood will never back down without a challenge, like last week.

This year, the lesson I've learnt is that we're not going to be the best ALL the time and that it IS a possibility that we will not win back to back. We still have a long way to go.

Agreed Ed. The eight quarters we have played well we have been scarily good.

I keep having "flash forwards" to a possible "total slaughter" of GC.
Imagine if we could this years four best quarters together in one game against opposition finding their feet at this level.

I'm firming.:)

I'm just wondering... do you think Adelaide are getting sick of being over-run by us yet?

-2008 Round 13* we came from a fair way back to beat them easily
-2008 Elimination Final we did the same thing
-2009 Semi Final came from a mile back to win by 1 point
-2010 Round 21 they flew out of the blocks and we wore them down to win by 3
-2011 Round 9 they lead by 23 with 16 minutes to go, lost by 43

I must say, that is quite some record!

After watching the replay of the 4th quarter I learnt a valuable lesson.

DO NOT POKE THE BEAR! You might wake it and then there is no place to hide!
:D

I wouldn't be toasting one good quarter of footy we had on Sunday. Ok fair enough we won the game in the last quarter but against any of the top teams we would have lost.

I am a little worried about our performances so far this year. We have been very lacklusture and haven't put 4 quarters together so far. I know its still early in the season but quite a few players just seem to be out of form. Heres hoping we peak later in the season because we won't win a premiership if we keep on playing the way we are playing.

I was starting to think I might leave early after that Goal but I stayed to see who kicked the Next Goal because if they Did I was thinking of Heading Torwards the Exit but Glad I stayed:thumbsu:

At half time I was seriously considering turning the game off, but I thought I'd watch the third just to see, at 3 quarter time I thought we were a chance, but when they kicked the first two goals I was so close to turning over to the other game, sooooo glad I didn't!

Shame on all the idiots who left!!! Missed an epic comeback but sucked in!!!!!!

Well They left too early in the 4th and as You say missed a Great Finish but I was thinking of going but thank god I stayed

Wouldn't have been all bad though.

Imagine leaving 23 pts down ten mins into last quarter, drag your sorry arse home, radio off cos you couldn't bare to hear about the pathetic embarrassing loss, get pissed, wake up in the morning, pick up the paper to check the weather.....accidentally see the back page.....

PIES BY 43!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you imagine the feeling!!!

Bit sad i stayed actually :(

PS Well what's left of my larynx is sad

Whilst I agree I also think we are playing better footy then this time last year.

I have nothing but trust in the football department at the moment. I think we will see a huge improvement in the second half of the year and leading into finals.

We lost Ben Reid and Anthony Rocca in that game against the Bulldogs. Make that the 15th round.

I pseudo-did this. I was at home studying with the old iPhone app streaming, saw we were getting molested and switched it off mid-3rd quarter, only to turn it on again with Pendlebury putting us ahead by 1 :D

Thats what I did in that final against adelaide in 2009. Was recording it.... we fell so far behind I turned it off.... Then found out a few hours later that we somehow won... and had to wait till it was available for download to see the damn thing lol

Very cocky in this thread. Sure it's nice we can play a quarter and win games of football, but it didn't work against Geelong and it won't work in Finals.

Obviously the plan is for us to play 4 quarter football towards the end of the year, but I certainly wouldn't be impressed with our form so far. Our field kicking has been terrible this year. I can understand not putting the full press on so early in the season, but our skills really have been terrible IMO.

I'm not getting too confident until we prove we can switch it on later in the season and start playing 4 quarters and get our skill level up. People are just assuming it will happen at this stage. Football doesn't always work like that.

Hence the reason for the * next to 13 :thumbsu:

I was at that game vs. the Dogs also, think we went down by 10 from memory after leading by about 24 at some stage?

I reckon the lesson learnt is we're not really that quick but we run out games well. ALso, If we think playing anything under our best will beat the good teams then we are kidding ourselves.

A big key is winning centre clearances against good teams and that will lead to a high proportion of wins. Losing them means we look average. That was the one things we changed in the last quarter. We dominated them. We got smacked by Geelong and you see how the game turned out.

Key adding points but also, we are not immune to the press, as evidenced by our poor key-ins this year. West Coast will be a timely challenge on all these things. Bring it the fudge on!

My dad and uncle (I was at work), were actualyl very slowly walking out after the second goal, and once they heard the crowds response to Tarrant's goal, they stood around a bit longer....JUST to see what COULD happen.

They figured, if Adelaide responded like they had all day, they'd definitely go.

They were clearly glad they didn't take that one more step.

I'll admit, I had the radio on at work, and switched off after the second Adelaide goal. My anger was getting to me way to much.

Just kept checking the Footy Live app. Once I saw us only 5 points down, switched the radio back on. Sounded awesome on radio.
