Can Leon Davis become a full time contributor in the midfield this season? Skills and Pace is what we lack surely neon can provide these assets? From all accounts was good against Richmond and I don't think our forward line is as under-strength as people make it out to be and in reality if the ball is getting delivered in there properly to our targets anybody has a chance of putting a score on the board, whether its Ben Reid, Anth Rocca or Presti, the reality is we need the bloody thing delivered to them so they can have these opportunities.

It adds great versatility to the small forwards game. He was terrific last season by not only kicking goals, but he added that zip in the midfield when it was needed. He forced his way into the middle as a danger man in his last game, where his role was being a midfielder. He carved up the Hawks before going down with an ankle injury.

If the pre-season is any signs, he will be used there. He has had a successful stint in that position, and with Licuria seeming more and more a forward option it might be what to expect.

I totally agree with what you have said there, I think the club has to start the transition now, we have drafted zippy types of late so by the looks of it they want to model themselves on the dogs, Leon can play that zippy role now until more development spreads into our younger ranks

he was playing through the midfield in 06

expect more of the same, with bursts through the middle, and stints up forward.........leon was playing good footy in 06 before succumbing to injury

no reason why he cant continue it in 07

a player to consider for all those dreamteamers out there if reasonably priced i reckon!!

I would say hold of for dream team, you would really only pick him if hes playing alot more midfield than previously in his career, very inconsistent as a small forward.

yeah, somebody to consider tho as i do think he will spend more time in the middle, so he should be a player that imroves on his previous years

Realistically a player that has been on the list and playing seniors for 7 seasons would have proven he was a midfielder by now if he was going to be one. Compare him to Ben Johnson who was drafted at the same time but taken later in that draft.

You are being very harsh on him, MarkT. Leon needed to work on his game, as was the case one or two seasons ago, and he was looking better and better last year before succumbing to injury against the Hawks. I don't think he will ever be a prominent feature in the midfield, but he is likely to do some damage in short bursts. He has the rare ability to turn a match on its head.

You can't compare him to Ben Johnson; they are different player types.

It does appear that Malthouse is finally keen to give him a go in the midfield. Leon has, without a doubt in my mind, the ability to win the hard ball and dispose of it effectively, the question is over his aerobic capacity.

Given the heavily-rotated nature of the modern midfield, I genuinely think Leon can be a success in the guts this year. Unfortunately, his SuperCoach price is something like $350k, which is a bit too steep, but I have high hopes for Neon in 2007. :thumbsu:

I agree. I really think this is the year for leon to step up and become a full time midfielder...but the jurys not out about him just yet, i think this year will tell providing he stays injury free.

i am a iig big fan of little neon leon...
i think last year he discovered what he needs to do for our football club....
would have loved to have seen him play the full season.. im sure he would have had no critics left..

Does anyone know how his fitness is at the moment? Imo, if neon is fit he WILL fire.. he is a speeddy gonzales with a bit of flair and great skills...

KILL EM LEON... KILL EM GOOD...

Leon Davis is going to be our most electrifying midfielder.
We have the likes of Thomas and Johnson with pace but Davis has the X-factor.
This is the year he becomes more of a midfielder then in previous years.
Watch and see...
