Forget about trading in other players unless they are A graders, and we have shown we won't pay overs or do the ruthless acts to get them, and we are not consideredd a "destination" club... Therefore we have to do it via the draft, we were never going to win the comp this year or next so play the kids we have, draft new ones, change the coach and gameplan, let the kids learn it and develop and in 3 years we might be ready.

B.Gale should be focuses on bringing in a quality football director who is tough and ruthless, I'd look at sheedy balme, Parkin, Mathews or malthouse, not to coach but to oversee footy, drafting, player development and recruitment and find someone else to manage the players contracts.

Anyone not in their prime or developing in 3 years should be traded or culled, the only exception would be Deledio who I would keep for experience.

Maric and Chaplin, should be retired or delisted,
Vickery, B.Ellis, Conca, Hunt, Morris, Edwards should all be traded for whatever picks we can get, we need to clear the decks of players that have limitations or can't sustain the effort and gamestyle we played against the dogs.

Every young player on the is needs game time for the rest of the year so we can see what they have to offer.

Mathew Knights should be offered the coaching role with a clean slate and opportunity to select his assistants.

have a look at Zac Clarke purely to be the back up ruckman for Nicholls and Hampson.

Outs:
Test the waters with Vick and see who bites, or let him go as a free agent, we could get an end of 2nd round compo pick for him.
I'd delist Chaplin, Maric (unfortunately) McKenzie (already retired unfortunately) Elton (unless he gets game time this year and shows a bit)

However, how many of them do you realistically believe you could trade into your club with the collateral you have at your disposal to trade with ??

Casting a wide net is nice in theory but you may be better served narrowing that list down to 3 or 4 solid candidates and start working on them now. Doesn't matter how good your administrative people are, they couldn't possibly do the proper due diligence on over 40 players let alone build a level of trust and professionalism with their manager as well.

If you could nail two by trades and one via Free Agency then you should be very pleased with the outcome.

The pies

-KPD-Brown- Not a gun but around the realm of Astbury even a little better. Disposal is a slightly better and quicker. Is a FA so wont cost us anything for a trade. Put him on a little more than Chappy and we will get him a think.

-Ruck-Witts- Don't really like, doesn't do as much as Hampson and we know he is someone we need to improve on.

-Mids or runners-Broomhead/Langdon- Don't mind these 2, and can find the footy or take intercept marks. Not much else on the list that I like.

I have a done this trying to look at players who are gettable not who are a pie in the sky.

I don't think you would be solving our ruck problems by bringing Witts in. Hampson is a much better player than him.

There is no reason why you cant do a hybrid type of mini rebuild. How about we raise the middle instead of killing the top to get to the top, it just doesn't make any sense to me.

We're not Sydney or Hawthorn mate. We're a mid tier club with a big supporter base. That's it.

A massive list overhaul is necessary. We will see if the club has the balls to do what is necessary.

Yeah I still don't see the reason to shed our top players for potential duds. I agree the middle class have some value to trade and we should consider it. I would prefer to do that, than trade our guns.

- We are likely losing Vickery and might not get much for him, yet at least until now he has definitely been our second best tall forward behind Jack.
Griffiths is looking very promising though...

- Some of our kids do look very good, so it's hard to know if we should go down the path of getting some of these mature players listed here or just hit the draft, or a bit of both...

- And who do we trade out of the club out of B Ellis, Houli, Edwards, Batchelor, Conca ..?


Once the list is relatively done, we should cull it down and then draw up that gameplan of how we might attain these players.

I do think we should be throwing big bucks at Hurley though.
