I think it's pessimistic, if the premise were true how mentally weak is our playing group?

Imagine if they were faced with something more challenging? If this is true we are doomed

Are you serious - tell me what challenge would be worse than the whole club being singled out as drug takers in the media.

How about you try and bring your more optimistic perspective into one of the half dozen post-game threads already running, instead of starting another one?
I don't have a track record of starting threads for no reason.
This issue is entirely worthy of a thread - The ESS saga demonstrates this clearly.

Just as Essendon had a shit coach who tried to use their drugs saga as an excuse for his shit coaching, we have a shit coach who is trying to use this manufactured controversy to to distract from his shit coaching.

Manufactured controversy? Tell that to the public who have harassed the players over the last few days.

GET A GRIP - NO WAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!
I called off the Easter Egg hunt this morning, kids were crying.
I sent them to their rooms and told them to learn the Hawthorn theme song.
They are never to mention the word Collingwood again.
We will never catch the train into the city again as we are on the C..........d line.
All Black & White clothing is to burnt by midnight tonight.
The wife is allowed to openly support the Blues again.
This has been my initial level headed response.......................... more to come.

Dust has settled...a few interesting things to ponder.

It was a stinker, but come out and beat Richmond, who didnt look that great either, and we sit 1-1 after playing two finals aspirants, that is fine.

Instead of a run of honorable losses that killed us last year, almost prefer a reality check like this...hopefully it lights a fire under the playing list.

Removal of the sub, the sub was introduced specifically to stop what happened to us last night...losing a player in the first quarter, stats show you lose a player in first quarter and it becomes 22 v 21 you stand no chance. The sub rule was in place to help protect equity in case of injury.

We need a big bloke with some mongrel - our only blokes with Mongrel and fight in them are Marley and Adams, both are too small to intimidate...Sydney had what 3 debutants who did as they pleased.
You are right
Cloke couldn't get a touch last night, but as a senior player he should have been at least throwing his weight around and showing leadership.
Pendlebury had a bad night and Swan usually steps up and lifts the side on the rare occasion.
Cloke really needed to lead the team.

People actually named, coach being murdered, players getting caught and suspended, marriage break up, death of close relatiive, bad haemmorhoids. I've only just scratched the surface.

You do realise no players were named, no strikes and it was across the comp. Only the club was named.

All players are presumed guilty - that's the problem - that's why it's worse.
And therefore the club is powerless managing the issue.

What an absolute cop out for that insipid display last night.

Essendon were hammered harder then us and they used it as a motivator in the coming weeks when it first came out.

If you are incapable of understanding the game is played 98% between the ears then of course you would suggest this explanation is a cop out.

Ess were so good at using it as a motivator that they produced embarrassing performances far more regularly than not - so really your logic is flawed.

I've tried to be as positive as I can about last night.

I've hid behind the fact that Treloar looks awesome and that Greenwood also looks pretty good, but we were terrible.

Our defense is a disaster. We have NOBODY who can kick the ball in after behinds. Williams? Langdon? FROST!?!?! I remember when we had Leon Davis kicking out in 2011 and it was brilliant, but who is going to step up now?

The midfield always looks good on paper, but it doesn't seem to translate into performance on field, very few stood up last night.

Jarrod Witts has officially lost me.

it was 2yrs+ of near saturation coverage before essendon dropped their bundle, 2013 they won the first 6 games went on to qualify for final (were disqualified), 2014 they went ok and qualified for finals, it wasnt until last year when albert and his shitful coaching returned and the wada appeal that they fell apart.

At least we agree that such events WILL impact performance - timing and extent of the impact will of course vary by club.

After months of relentless booing not the following week it came out.

So your spin on it fails.

It's been pretty much a cry amongst everyone here that Robbos timing was very very bad - as others have said, if this was revealed in Jan it would have blown over and managed internally, with little likely impact on round 1.
Why was everyone so concerned about Robbos timing?
For precisely the reasons we saw last night, namely the likely impact on our performance.

45 players this week have been inundated with questions.
First Dad , then Mum then brothers and sisters and then extended family. It happened with friends, collegues class mates, acquaintances, neighbours, girl friends.
How many calls, emails, messages and conversations? Maybe 20, 30, 40. - who knows.
But this embarrassing drug revelation about the club and the uncomfortable and incessant questions for every player could not possibly impact the groups on - field performance, according to so many here.
I call rubbish -

This was a major factor on our performance yesterday,
Our club was rocked to its foundations last week, it was an earth quake, and it will take time to emerge from this devastation, hopefully stronger and more united.
I can't think of a leader with more integrity than Buckley to steer the group through this.

But just like Ess if this saga continues to play out in the media over an extended period it will be devastating for our on field performances.
100%

And a Shit Club then?

Really was a shocking way to begin our 2016 campaign, there's no denying that.
But it is game one of a very long season, if after round 4 we are 0-4 then the alarm bells will be ringing. Last nights performance is a one off, with a number of contributing factors, their preseason has been great and the nab performances strong. there is a lot of water to go under the bridge before its panic stations.
Coaches aren't usually even trying to win pre-season games so it doesn't mean much at all.

Collingwood's preseason not just the nab challange has been strong, it just doesn't correlate to what transpired on Saturday night
From what I've seen over the years there's rarely much correlation between pre-season and season form. That even goes for individual players to a fair extent, esp new players who might do well in the pre but it's about equivalent to doing well in the VFL. Look at Gault, I'm not writing him off but has a way to go before he is a serious threat in the big stuff.
