Let's get creative with trades

Completely unfounded but he sounded pretty dejected with the situation over at STK in an interview recently.

Yeah I heard it. It was when he was told what was going to occur this pre season and I've been told they will trade some senior players again to head to the draft. I'm sure it wasn't him though but are open to offers.

I believe they want a top 25 pick for Montagna. I think a 3rd round offer would suffice from us. He's a very good player and one that could help get us to another level because he won't be tagged here. Would play outside and if clubs are now going to Ellis then he will be free to do his thing.

His age though is not for a top 25 pick.

Quick ball movement and serious leg speed. We are too slow at the moment to execute this brand of football on a consistent basis. This year we weren't capable of living up to this desired game plan because we were 1 or 2 speedy players short. We need speedsters and quick crumbling forwards, not KPP's.

Give us a Foley of 2007 right now x2, streaming out of the centre of the ground with blistering pace. Find one of them Richmond, please. Some crumbing forwards too.

Maybe we get lucky in the draft - sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. But anyone we pick up in the draft is unlikely to provide much for at least 3 years while they learn and grow up.

We have a chance to push into the top 4 over the next year or 2 (so do 7-8 sides not currently in the top 4 - I'm not saying we definitely will). However to get there we need to improve in plenty of areas. To get good players, we need to be prepared to trade good players. Sure, I'd hate to lose Ellis, or Griffiths, or Vlaustin, or Cotchin - but we need to understand - 'Everyone is Tradeable for the Right Price'.

Frawley to Geelong, Clarke to Hawthorn or Fremantle.

Both not for us.

I'd be creative and add Tom Mitchell and Leigh Montagna to our side. Also Taylor Hunt.

We then need to find speed in a midfield and forward line.

Small defender to take over Morris who is almost useless.
Tom Mitchell or Shiel should be at the very top of our list.

We have some decent young KPP's, let them grow unless we have an opportunity to snare another gun KPP from somewhere.

Clark isn't the answer, nor is Frawley.

We were ran off our feet in the midfield on the weekend, it all starts there. I would hope we are keeping a close eye on Mitchell and Shiel. We need one of them.

Would it at all be possible a club could snare both Mitch Clark and James Frawley by using their
Influence on compo
Picks as leverage.

With Jacko retired we have a lot more cap room. Say we move on vickery also (wouldn't need with Clark) and maybe grimes or god forbid Chaplin (soft)

Say we offer more than frawley is worth on the open market to ensure the compo for melbourne is early first round, in exchange we get allowed a soft deal for Clark. Say a second round pick or fringe player.

Frawley and Clark for next to nothing and the ability to move on vickery and grimes for picks in first two rounds (or good youngsters)
For the love of God, Vickery won't be traded unless he asks for one and I doubt that will happen given he just signed an extension about 6 months back.

This is my dream shopping list: (would jizz if we could snare even one of these guys)

Prestia
Hanley
Parker
Rockliff (dreaming)
Mundy
Beams (dreaming)
B Crouch
McGovern
Can't see any of them being traded in TBH.
Prestia contracted until 2016
Hanley and Rockliff would be untouchables at Brisbane.
Parker contracted until 2016
Mundy extended by 3 years about 3 months ago
Beams - contracted until end 2015 and Collingwood don't often lose players they want to keep
Crouch contracted until 2016
McGovern also contracted until 2016

Now I know that being under contract doesn't mean you can't get a player but given the RFC mantra of not paying overs and the fact that most of these players re-signed this year, they must generally be happy where they are and their clubs wouldn't let them go without significant compensation.

Im of the opinion that Dusty and lids will be better left forward with reiwoldt Griff, S.Edwards and we are one forward short.Gordon is ok but not Great.. ..we need another zippy forward....our midfield should be Ellis, Miles and Cotchin...we need at least another quality hard nosed mid...with foley for back up...Grigg needs to be upgraded..he is not good enough...another backman would be good too...all in all we are a fairly good team and with time we will mature even more...we about 3-4 players short of a great team...

Agree that everyone is tradable ( if you are getting a good deal in return). I would suggest that with the players that you have mentioned that it would want to be a very goof trade as I think they have all shown enough to suggest they can be part of the future - Cotchin would need to be a top pick in the AFL in same age range (not going to happen)

Im probably going to get killed about what im about to write but , i believe that we may be able to find some hidden treasures at the Melbourne Football Club

Simply going by these players as juniors and talent they displayed whilst juniors and the skill set they have that we are short of, Im thinking that the development of talent at Melbourne combined with the loseing culture may have just hindered these boys and in the Tiger Den they well and truly could become Hidden Gems in the Anthony Miles type scenario.

1. Sam Blease , Very talented junior with great skills thats lightning quick and a real tiger supporter that just hasnt been given a proper shot at it since having major injuries in his first 2 years 184cm 80kgs

2. Luke Tapscott , Showed a fair bit in his first year at melbourne then had injuries (hamstring i believe)and fell out of favour after Paul Roos came along, Strongly built south aussie boy that was very much in the Jack Darling type but shorter but plays tall. has been played across half back since being drafted by melbourne and another kid thats probably looking for a move and could be that medium foward that can pinch hit in the midfield in the way chapman has been played.

3, Jimmy Toumpas , Another maligned player at melbourne that just hasnt adapted to the AFL or appears that way but top tier talent that went i believe at #4
Good outside player with 'some' inside ability with elite disposal and good endurance and speed, South aussie kid that probably just need a change of envoirment and needs to be at a winning club to gain confidence and belief to bring out the best in him, With Chocco i think the RFC could definately do that.

I believe all these kids are getable and would come fairly cheaply or for reasonable trades of fringe players currently on our list

Jimmy Toumpas - Shaun Grigg or 2nd rounder
Luke tapscott - 3rd rounder or Shaun Hampson (i wish)
Sam Blease - 3rd / 4th rounder

Whilst im not saying that we should get all these boys i certainly wouldnt mind if we did as they were all extremely highly rated & Talented kids whilst juniors and have really had not much to play for or been given much leadership or development in the AFL system due to Melbournes sh!tness

Clarke to the pies
Just what a bloke who is battling depression needs, being the next great white hope for the Magpie revival. If he thought being at Melbourne was tough just wait until 50k Pies fans are booing him when he doesn't perform as well as they expect him to.
