Let's get creative with trades

Im probably going to get killed about what im about to write but , i believe that we may be able to find some hidden treasures at the Melbourne Football Club

Simply going by these players as juniors and talent they displayed whilst juniors and the skill set they have that we are short of, Im thinking that the development of talent at Melbourne combined with the loseing culture may have just hindered these boys and in the Tiger Den they well and truly could become Hidden Gems in the Anthony Miles type scenario.

1. Sam Blease , Very talented junior with great skills thats lightning quick and a real tiger supporter that just hasnt been given a proper shot at it since having major injuries in his first 2 years 184cm 80kgs

2. Luke Tapscott , Showed a fair bit in his first year at melbourne then had injuries (hamstring i believe)and fell out of favour after Paul Roos came along, Strongly built south aussie boy that was very much in the Jack Darling type but shorter but plays tall. has been played across half back since being drafted by melbourne and another kid thats probably looking for a move and could be that medium foward that can pinch hit in the midfield in the way chapman has been played.

3, Jimmy Toumpas , Another maligned player at melbourne that just hasnt adapted to the AFL or appears that way but top tier talent that went i believe at #4
Good outside player with 'some' inside ability with elite disposal and good endurance and speed, South aussie kid that probably just need a change of envoirment and needs to be at a winning club to gain confidence and belief to bring out the best in him, With Chocco i think the RFC could definately do that.

I believe all these kids are getable and would come fairly cheaply or for reasonable trades of fringe players currently on our list

Jimmy Toumpas - Shaun Grigg or 2nd rounder
Luke tapscott - 3rd rounder or Shaun Hampson (i wish)
Sam Blease - 3rd / 4th rounder

Whilst im not saying that we should get all these boys i certainly wouldnt mind if we did as they were all extremely highly rated & Talented kids whilst juniors and have really had not much to play for or been given much leadership or development in the AFL system due to Melbournes sh!tness
You know what, that's a very, very interesting post. Was the last club I was thinking of trading with.

Loath to take anything good off Melbourne though...still feel a bit bad about snatching those Royboys in the early 90s.

We need a proper back up ruck man. To leave so much responsibility to Maric is irresponsible and unfair. We were left embarrassed at the start of the year.

And the leadership group needs to be overhauled. Blokes on it that deliver, not just talk about delivering. See ya later Chaplin, earn your spot.

Love to Trade Vickery to the bulldogs for pick 5 but doubt that'd take that

Vickery to freo for pick 13-18 could be more realistic.

Happy to trade our pick 12 for Tom Mitchell

Happy to also trade pick 5 for Jono O'Rourke or pick 13-18 and probably a player (Batch,Grigg even Foley) for O'Rouke and hopefully a third round pick.

Does everyone have an alt these days? Is this something all the cool kids do?

Lol.

What is with that?

never got the appeal of alt trolling myself

rather tell opp supporters what I think to their face

bigger question though is, is hawka one of theirs or one of ours :D

Hmm I know I've said that we can't trade Vickery, but after reading DrMike comments about the clause in the CBA, we might just be able to trade Vickery especially if he has asked for it to happen. With that in mind I wonder if the Giants would be interested in a Vickery for Shiel/WHE deal with some steak knives thrown in to the pot. Shiel according to the rumors wants out big time and back to Victoria, his girlfriends dad and former coach works with us and apparently he rated Chocco highly as a coach not just a potential father in law. WHE also wants out and has refused to sign an extension despite plenty of pressure from his manager and the Giants to do so. Then there is the Giants need for a ruckman to develop to replace Mumford eventually. At the Giants Vickery could be used in a second ruck/tall forward role. Patton is out for at least 12 months, then there is chat that the other talls in Boyd & Cameron might be lured back to Victoria in the next 12 months as well. Vickery if he went to the Giants would be on good coin, maybe even better than what we're paying him, so why wouldn't he consider it to set himself up.

The other thing in support of a possible trade is that with us Vickery seems to have stagnated in his development and may even find himself behind Griffiths in our forward structure. So maybe it's worth him going to a club where he wouldn't be down the pecking order but near the top of the tree and would be in line for a prime role with the Giants given Mumfords inability to stay on the field for full seasons.

Again this is not suggesting that something will happen, it's more about thinking outside the square and exploring options to get us the players that we need, while shopping someone that has some value in the market place.

He is a game breaker just not in the flashy sense. The same way Nat Fyfe or Josh Kennedy can start dominating stoppages and contested ball to win a game of football.

Besides which we have 4 game breakers in the sense i think you are suggesting in Deledio, Cotchin, Martin and Jack. And S.Edwards and Ellis who can do it but not as regularly as those listed above. Griff, Vlas, Vickery and Lennon all have that potential too
I don't think he can change a game like fyfe? Why can't he get a game?

Because Sydney don't have a salary cap and incredible depth. Who else can drop a player after 29 touches, 13 contested, 13 tackles and 6 clearances on top of the week before when he had 23 touches, 13 contested, 7 clearances and 6 tackles all in less then 70% game time??

And even scarier is that they pay him 500k a year to sit in the twos (and his old man 150k) plus have a ready made replacement at pick 18 this year in Heeney and if did manage to get him another pick at 11.

Back on the trade Vickery bandwagon!
Not really just floating a scenario based on the opinions of others to generate discussion.

If we could get Shiel or WHE for Vickery then i'd do it. Straight trade though no downgrades.

But GWS will want too much and Vickery just doesn't suit them IMO, yes Patton is injured, Boyd might wanna come home but they also have Cam Mccarthy and Tomlinson plus they won't get Petracca at pick 3 because Saints will take him at 1 and if not Melbourne will take him at 2. That means they'll get Wright who is effectively the same player.

We already have plenty of his type? We need a lot of pace which he does not have.

I want us to get WHE more than I've wanted to pick up any player ever.
2 years ago when he was 75kgs soaking wet he still showed enough that I thought he was the most exciting of the Giant's youngsters.

It's just not going to happen.

This thread is good for a bit of off season reading but I'm 95% certain we'll go to the draft with our first round pick still in hand, and without having traded out one of our top 15 players. We are a very conservative club during trade week. During Hardwick's reign we've consistently "drafted for talent, traded for need" and that's not going to change this year.

The flip side of this was St Kilda last year trading McEvoy. That trade is currently looking pretty good for the Saints, but we won't know who won that one for some time yet.

If we wanted to put our balls on the line would you be happy seeing the club offer the following?:
Brett Deledio for WHE/Shiel
or
Brett Deledio + Grimes + pick 11 for WHE + Shiel

I'm not sure I'd be comfortable with either of those trades, I'm a bit conservative myself....

We have Miles. Can never have enough of this type and I'd love two Miles at our stoppages. Mitchell is not Jetta quick but that doesn't make him slow.

He will be a match winner from day dot. Our first pick whether Lavarde or Ahern will take awhile to get going. And we can get pace in 2nd round with smith or trade for Jeff Garlett.

GWS have a flock of talls already...... I don't think Vickery would fit nor interest them......

He won't be moved on, not unless we have a doozy of a deal.....

Any early whispers on what RFC are simmering with the upcoming trade period? Too early?

If what you say is true RT on Shiel, Tigers I hope would already be on the front foot and touching base with him..... Get him Tigers! :thumbsu:

What would Shiel cost us, our first? Reasonable?

Mitch Clark = NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

James Frawley = Something just isn't right and think he would take the club for a ride

Would like to get one or two of Mitch Robinson, O'Keefe, Nathan Jones, leroy jetta or James Gwilt?

Who else is available? Who has been publicly outed as trade bait by other clubs?

Nathan Jones would be fantastic, But impossible i would think

In Short, No! If it does, its one less member for RFC. You do not trade a club champion for no one.! unless of course he wants out...which won't happen.

Just thinking about our seeming need for speed and chasing Shiel, I'm actually thinking of us going another way.

If we were of the opinion that 2 of Duggan/Garlett/Smith/Menadue would be around in the 20-25 range of the draft, then how about something like the following:

Richmond - Vickery pick 11 & 30
GWS - WHE, pick 20 & 23.

The addition of WHE and 2 of the 4 players I named above would give us the injection of speed and class that we all believe that we need. That would be a creative trade and would as I said go along way towards towards addressing the lack of pace. The big question is, is this something that the club would chase?

I like your train of thought RT......

What are the odds of potentially 2 of your 4 being available at 20, and of the 4, who would be the more preferred combo?
