Let's get creative with trades

Watching Fremantle, they are desperate for a good tall forward.

Pav is in decline and they have nothing else.

They are in a Premiership window they believe. We could absolutely make out with a good haul.

I'm against trading Vickery unless we net absolutely over the top odds......

Would love to use Vickery as part of a deal to get Hill over

Ok, this isn't so much a trade as a poaching idea. It's pretty clear to me that Ross Lyon doesn't have the cattle in the right age group to win a flag (they choked it up and threw it away tonight).... Pav, Sandi, Mundy and co might have a crack at it next year but McPharlin is no younger. They have stars in Fyfe, Walters and plenty of tough hardened footballers but I think Ross Lyon knows this year was their best chance. He never builds for the future (and don't the Saints love him right now for it!) so it was this year, maybe, maybe next year and then they are stuffed. RFC has a reasonably good core list that might be attractive to Ross Lyon. Whether Ross has what it takes to win a premiership is never in more question in my mind than right now, however what is not in question is his ability to turn teams into hardened finals team who can go deep in September... maybe he needs more luck from there.

So, despite me being firmly on the keep DH bandwagon, if we were able to secure Ross Lyon, who would be up for it, whether right now or if we have to wait a season? I think he is a selfish, boring pain in the arse personally.... but he's pretty effective. I would not sack DH for any coach not currently in the AFL and probably not for anyone outside of Lyon, Roos or well that's probably it.... I don't want an untried at this point. We need someone to take our talented list further.... not rebuild it. Hopefully DH does that in 2015 but if we start slowly again......

Our list isn't good enough for Lyon.

Lyon is good at not tanking, winning against weak opposition. At the end of the day couldn't win with Saints or Freo and Saints had a far better team than us,

The list of Port and Swans then Gold Coast and GWS dictates for us to get a quality list before chasing an elite coach match day.

I don't like winning the Lyon or Roos way anyway, too negative and they rely on umpire interference!

I like winning.... I'd take an ugly premiership over a pretty and free-flowing 9th, 7th or 8th any day of the week and twice on Sunday.... Our list profile is young enough that he could have 2 full pre-seasons with us to make the changes to attitude/standards/learn that goddam ugly gameplan whatever you want. In fact our list profile wouldn't be too far off Freo's when he took over them when Harvey was in charge....

Young enough but not good enough.

We would be a 16/1 shot to win with Lyon any period for the next 8 years IMO.

Go after draft picks makes us a 6/4 shot over a 8 year period or so IMO!

Would be looking at players like Jake Neade. Could not get a game at Port while they were white hot early in the season, but he has been a bit of an "X" factor in the last few rounds are really turned it on on the finals. Yarran would be a good fit as well, and cheaper at this point. Brad or Stephen Hill would be a perfect fit but almost impossible to entice to tigerland.

I would be surprised to see Vickery traded unless he requested.

That's why we got out of jail signing Griff . It wasn't just the doggies , saints , Brisbane and Carlton after key position forwards it was Geelong , Collingwood and Freo as well. We dodged a massive bullet there

Dare say he would be a hard nut to crack but as I keep saying, you gotta ask the question. Do anything to improve.

I am in the don't trade Vickery. A 200cm marking forward who can play ruck entering his prime is rare. Especially ones with extreme talent.

All I'm saying is this is where teams pay overs. That belief they can win a flag with just one more piece of the puzzle.

It would be interesting to see what we could get out of the Fremantle tree now that we couldn't fit Vickery into our side at the end of the season.

Fortune Favours The Brave is a saying that has always been associated with our club. I wonder how brave we will be in pursuit of a flag.

I want to see a flag in my lifetime. It's all I want. It's all we all want. That feeling I see others experience year on year.

This is where it will break this team we have. Either we stay mediocre and play safe under Hardwick which is the way he has been, or we can be brave.

I hate Port. But **** I admire them.

I daresay Hill would be one of their untradeables.

Crozier is who we should be targeting IMO. Vickery and 2nd for Crozier and 1st seem fair?
Not for me. You don't trade KPP's for small fwds especially players that aren't a graders. It would have to be an a grader to like this deal.

I'm all for 2 KP fwd line structure, so therefore one of vickery and Griffiths misses out. Throw in the improvement of McBean over the next 12 and one of these two becomes redundant very quickly.

I just can't see vickery being the answer up forward or in the ruck, as he is like a witches hat more often than not.

Swap him with Ryder and throw in something else to make it happen.

Then focus on a Dom Tyson / Josh Caddy type player looking to return home to Vic from GWS/Suns.

Mitchell and Malceski are two from the swans that you should be doing everything in your power to get.

How have Port been brave? By sticking their hand out for a $4m bail out from the AFL? Being gifted a brand new stadium?
Hiring the last guy standing and the only bloke that said yes?
Going sloppy seconds on an unconscious Brisbane during trade week? Picking up some free agents?
They have given up nothing, it's all fallen in their lap. So brave. So very brave.

I admire their game. That's brave football.

Trading Vickery isn't brave. It's wholeheartedly stupid.

I think Geelong are also in a similar position to Freo only they're not really a chance at the flag though i'm not sure whether they will choose to accept that and will look to make one last push. Think that they could pay over the odds for Vickery.

Imo that's is way over for crozier. That's giving the farm away imo.

Couldn't agree more, and the club isn't that stupid. Vickery is a much better player than we give him credit for and he very unique which is what makes him even more valuable. IMO he is worth at least what we paid for him but I'd say more because he hasn't been a bust. Midfielders on the other hand are a dime a dozen. If Freo wanted him their first plus a good young player or two.

The trouble with Crozier is he is very Vanilla like a lot of Lyon's type players. They are coached well but lack range. Eg. Shane Edwards for us has far more scope than Crozier IMO. I haven't seen Crozier do a lot except do the basics well playing the percentages. That means apart from being able to be coached well he could be a liability on a one on one match up due to limited scope and versatility.

I like us to get players with a bit of upside so they can improve more from development as well as being coached better etc..

Agree. This is what I mean. If they get desperate we hold out for Crozier and their first for Vickery. Desperation in not many forwards around and they knowing what they need makes it interesting.

Would you and others accept Crozier and a first for Vickery?

I have suprisingly notice a distinct lack of talk about Jono O'Rourke , Looks like this kid wants to leave GWS and is a massive Tigers fan
Former top 3 draft pick with good speed and excellent disposal - Surely with another 2 years would have to consider for our 1st selection

shhhhhhhhhhh

Beat me to it, was going to say the exact same thing. Their biggest piece of luck was the incompetance of Melbourne not taking Vineys best mate, Ollie Wines!!! Dees have made some astounding drafting blues over recent years, mind you, we have too!!!

Where did I say Port were brave? I said we had to be brave to make the next step.

I said I admire Port. From dead and buried to a Prelim.

You want to know where they were brave? In paying a fitness guy more than some coaches are getting paid. Hasn't that worked a treat.

We went for him, lost out on the best then went for scraps. Oh so typical of our club.

I agree with the sentiment on here about Vickery and how special he is and not giving the farm away for him and IMO not giving him away at all but wouldn't it be great if we actually had a coach that got this ability out of him ?

This year is not the year to trade him and next year he should be playing a lot of reserves in the Ruck incase Ivam gets injured because we all know Hampson can't be relied upon.
