This is an olympic thread. Can we cease with the drugs in sport crap for now and actually talk about whats happening in the olympics?

In the Olympics we have loud mouthed bogan Australian athletes who probably read reclaim Australia pages on facebook, abusing athletes from other cultures. It's not a good look. We're not all as feral and bigoted as this one.

Kids are suppose to look up to these people.

Some perspective here... the kid tested positive in 2014 to a drug he was given by his doctor for a heart problem. That particular drug is no longer banned. He served a 3 month ban given that he tested positive in-competition, and reduced penalty due to the extenuating circumstances.

Trimetazidine

Sun Yang tested positive for trimetazidine in May, but the test results and subsequent ban were not revealed to the public by the Chinese Swimming Association until last November.

King this week said Yang had been prescribed the banned drug by his long-time physician Dr Ba Zhen because he suffers from the heart condition angina.

Trimetazidine was added to the banned list by the World Anti-Doping Authority in January last year as an “example to reflect emerging patterns of drug use”, eight months before Yang’s positive sample emerged. Dr Ba was suspended for a year, yet he appeared on the pool deck beside Yang at the Asian Games, sparking a furore.

8 Months??? * months and ''I didn't know'' ?? Come on Jenny do some research.

WADA list 2016 ie still banned

Not sure you have your facts right there chief!

He's gone to great endevour to keep his Aussie coaches and train in Australia, even after his ban. Who else do these coaches coach?

King yesterday defended his decision to work with Yang on the basis of the amount of money being pumped into the Gold Coast swimming community by the Chinese Swimming Association.
“Chinese swimmers are worth about $4 million or $5 million to the Gold Coast,” King told The Sunday Telegraph. “Yang has served his time. He has served his ban and I think he should be allowed to get on with it.

Junkies?

I couldn't be less excited. Years gone by, I watched every moment I could.. and taped others. I loved the Opening and Closing ceremonies, religiously watched the swimming and diving and as many track events as I could. Then I woke up to the reality that it's best pharmacist against best pharmacist. Completely turned me off. It used to be about athlete v athlete, or at least in my mind it was. Just can't get enthused any more.
This was your very opening post, right off the bat you're straight into drug cheating.

It's incredibly boring particularly as its been more than done to death via Essendon.

Aussie women's rugby sevens was just on.

Right on cue the Spud Missile spuds it up again.

Given a golden ticket to the final and swims a full second slower than he's capable of.

For someone who is capable of being the fastest swimmer on the planet, he's a complete spud.
McEvoy's 47 flat only 0.03 behind Adrian from the US, definitely a very good shot at gold in the individual 100m. Very nice and humble bloke too, would love to see him win gold.

Would people be potting Magnussen if he had got that gold 4 years ago, which he missed by 0.01 seconds? His time for a 3rd leg was actually pretty damn good, Roberts' time was significantly slower and coming in dead last after the 1st leg will always be tough to make up. Phelps going at a reaction time of 0.08 seconds as well is just insane, the US were never getting beaten.

Any swimmer will struggle after a shoulder reco, he has done well to just make the team this year and still push a sub 48.

So if he potted an American drug cheat or an English one it would be OK ??

This is so appropriate. So quick to call athletes out from other countries but when it's one of our own... The excuses come, "he was duped" "his mother gave him a diuretic" "he's a good bloke".

You leave the great man out of this.

Shane Keith Warne is not a cheat.

One thing that has been lost in the whole "OMG China's upset, everyone apologise" is this story:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...al-Mack-Horton-training-competition-pool.html

So this Chinese swimmer taunts his rivals and then loses in tears.

silly fellow.

Got to say he may not have passed the Kitty Chiller Olympic character test if he was an Aussie. Seems like a real tosser. Changed my mind. He can go f^&k himself and so can the chinese media who are offended over an absolute ****.

I had to laugh at Gian Rooneys call of the 400 relay, as magnussen was diving in she said great job by chalmers to get us up into second (magnussen swims) as McEvoy was diving she said great work by magnussen to get us up into 4th.
Lol he lost two spots Gian!

Cheats or not.

I love the Olympics. I love the compertition between nations and what the Olympics stand for. They give hope to everyone.

I don't listen to the people who push the line that drugs are spoiling the Olympics. Keep your opinions to yourself as far a I'm concerned.

Unfortunately just didn't have the depth in the team to be a serious threat. Needed one more guy capable of a sub 48.

Great man on the field. Unsurpassed.

Off the field, not so much. I never bought the whole "Mum gave me a tablet" routine, hot on the heels of "I never grabbed that kid's camera" (after footage shown of him doing it) or "I don't smoke now I'm on Nicorette" (and then seeing pics of him puffing away). First class plonker is Warney.

Drug Cheat
Australia's leading wicket-taker Shane Warne was suspended from cricket for 12 months on Saturday after the player tested positive for a banned diuretic.

Warne immediately called himself a victim of "anti-doping hysteria" and said he plans to appeal.

The 33-year-old leg spinner appeared before an Australian Cricket Board anti-doping committee on Friday and the three-person committee took statements from seven witnesses in an eight-hour hearing before adjourning overnight.

Warne was told of the committee's decision at 11am (2400 GMT) local time on Saturday behind closed doors at the ACB's Melbourne headquarters but it was not publicly announced for another two hours.

Justice Glen Williams, who chaired the panel, made a brief statement to the media who had camped outside the building for one-and-a-half days before they were ushered in for a news conference.

"The committee found the charge proved and imposed on player Shane Keith Warne... (a ban) for the period of 12 months dated from February 10th 2003", he said.

Haha, I noticed that too, I was like "wtf Gian? He bombed! (keep being hot though)".
