Yeh. But it's better than losing.

Anzac Day is a test for us. Essendon have the wood over us, and we owe em'... big time!
History has shown that there's no sharier proposition then heading into ANZAC Day as "roaring favourties", and being "expected to win" (that applies to both teams). Too many times the underdog gets up, and too many times it's been Essendon on the rebound knocking off a "firing" Collingwood  .... I'm holding my breath until 5:00pm Tuesday before starting to get a little excited...

Likewise.........I think we good enough this year......But I bet they pull something off........eg Lucas going forward and kicked 6, Hird winning another medal, or D.Hille kicking a bag whilst resting in the forward line........It's happened too many times!

yeah we certaintly do owe them, all signs point to us getting up but we have to remember that essendon have come out before and beaten us when we should have won on anzac day, my concern is hird, even if he is hampered by injury, next week is a must win as its an important game on the big stage on a big day at the G

Here's what I posted at hotrods.

I am one of the most optimistic pies supporters.
However I am still not convince we are finals material yet. I still believe we can easily beat anyone in the competition on our day and our forward line along with St.Kilda's is far and above any other forward line in the AFL it is not funny.
However our last two performances have been against poor defences and working midfields not blessed with pace (Harvey, Grant and Wells are quickies but the style they play means they don't really run with it much).
If we beat Essendon pretty comfortably I will think we are then top 8 material. Why, you may ask? Essendon are crap, but have a quality defence. If we can beat a backline of Fletcher, Bradley (not elite yet but great on his day), Welsh, McVeigh, Solomon and Bolton/Lucas when down there we are going to be hard to stop. Botlon and Brdaley may not be great defensive options (Bradley is on his day) but Essendon is a team we cannot really stretch in this regard. I.e we won't get a Firrito/Dawson/J.Smith matchup.

Jabso, you are right there. Essendon do have a good defence so it will be interesting how we go, though we should have enough options to stretch it??

Again midfield delivery, being precise and constant should be another factor. No matter how good your defence is, when it is constantly underpressure cracks do appear as we saw with our defence last year. But this game will be a big test for the pies, because a) opposition with good defence, hird and hunger to win b)its a huge game and last few years pies havent seem to perform well in the huge games like anzac day c)we have some form, consistency and confidence so it will be interesting if it continues.

Its a week away and I already cant bloody wait to watch it

Essendon tend to play Fletcher on anyone who plays full forward. For that, that is Rocca. This is a win for us as Fletcher is often suspect in one on one wrestles. Then again if Tarrant is played on him, Fletcher will either have to follow him around the ground, limiting Fletchers rebound and influence or he will stay in the last line and let Tarrant do want he wants and damage the team at will (the people who say "let Tarrant lead up the wings, he can't do damage from up there" are wrong, he creates space and flow and is a great passer of the ball).

If only the big Sav was in the goal square this Anzac Day against the bombers. Fletcher would've picked him up and Sav would've been rubbing his hands with glee!

I'll never forget the Twilight game (must have been 1996) when Big Saverio kicked his first at half-time from 60m on the boundary, then kicked 6 more in the second half... Good times

We've beaten last years wooden spoon runners up and this years possible wooden spooners. Next week we'll beat another ordinary team, and the week after we'll beat an interstate team on the slide at home. Then we play Carlton.

So we should be 5 and 1 but we wont have beaten anybody decent in that lot of wins.

Its good to win but the real test will come when we play the good teams, commencing Round 7.

BUMP

Just a reminder, we still have not beaten anybody decent yet. But winning's still nice!!!
