Lets not write off 2016

Just found this which sent a chill. Sorry if in wrong place

In the 1990 annual report Parkin made this new approach clear:

"There has been a conscious acceptance by those who administer this great club, that we are no longer in the business of buying success...young men with ability, steel in their make-up and commitment to excellence shall be given every chance to carve out a career at Princes Park."

Then we went and bought Greg Williams!!!

Enough with the sighing - back up your position that our 2014 draftees are failures or find someone else to hang shit on.

As I said, Boekhorst improved as the season progressed, Clem was thrown to the wolves way too early, most accepted DVR would need a year or two to bulk up, and Foster is a key forward and will need even longer. Not sure how you can write off that lot as failures after their first season. And to do so shows massive disrespect to a group of players who we need to come on and play a role for our club.
With Giles and Holman only getting an extra 12 months, they'd want to be showing decent improvement given they currently may not be rated by Bolton/SOS.

That period between 1990 and 1995 was probably the last hurrah for our club as a trendsetter of the comp before Elliot started losing the plot, Wes Lofts got old and Stephen Gough joined the MCC. After the 95 premiership the hangover crept off field and has stayed that way since. Hopefully any 'buying' from now on will be spent on making all our systems elite and staff that can bring success into the club. Don't be bagging the Diesel purchase by the way, my favourite Blue ;)

The reason I'm so excited for 2016 is because we finally have a direction. For so long I've supported a team that I knew just didn't have it in them, made up of a lot of players that just looked like they didn't want it. I'll go to the footy next year and cheer on this team knowing where we're going, knowing there's no quick fixes... And I'm really excited by that.

No bagging at all.. He's mine too.

Q: What would people consider a successful season ? A solid season of improved wins, and a better injury win with a core group of players from the last 2-3 years and say 6,7, 8 wins, or a similar win/loss tally to last year, with marked improvement and development from Boekhorst, Graham, possibly DVR and getting in 3-4 draftees from this year's draft who are good enough to play 15 plus games ?

See I'm not actually convinced we can win many games with a squad of kids/draftees plus Simmo, Murph, Gibbo and a couple of the GWS quatet.

If Plowman and Sumner can fit right into our best 22 by end of the year (as I hope) plus Weitering and picks 8 and 11 also play 15 games plus, than I am thrilled with next season, no matter how many wins/losses we end up with.

MY WISH LIST:

- The cloud of doom, shitness and negativity lifted from this clubs shoulders.

- Total membership increased by at least 5%, 10% preferable.

- Seeing a very cohesive coaching/support staff system in place.

- Sorting out our bloody white collar self entitle board. Whilst on this note, only ONE person speaks to the media no more bloody leaks showing divided opinions/directions.

- Reducing the gap between our worst and best performances to create a little more consistency so supporters don't have coronary occlusions every match.

- Wins irrelevant to me this year, but growth in so far as disposal efficiency, accuracy of set shots, defensive/attacking strategies all showing signs of consistency and improvement.

Play positive with strucutures and plans, leave nothing on field from 22 taking the field and you would be surprised how man games you walk away with wins.

Currently watching Fox Footy. St Kilda were a very good team in 2009. The following played for them in the Grand Final:

Zac Dawson
Jason Blake
Jason Gram
Adam Schneider
Farren Ray
Steven King
Andrew McQualter
Clint Jones
Raph Clarke
Justin Koschitzke

That's almost half the team right there. Obviously several of those guys were good servants but this is surely a huge advertisement for a quality 'system'.

And the embers stir...

Please tell me where the prime Riewoldt, Dal Santo, Goddard, Hayes, Montagna and Milne on our list are ? There was a lot of quality in those Saints GF teams to go along with the battlers.

You can't make strawberry jam out of manure (or in our instance, raw, untried ingredients for the most part)

Right now the comparison with St Kilda is apt, but probably at the end of the Watters regime.

6 wins is about the best we can hope for in 2016, if one is rationale and realistic about the current state of our list.

Yeah I wasn't suggesting that we were a GF team, merely that a good coach can do plenty with 'role' players.

You're not wrong here... we had so many injuries this year it's ridiculous. .. Byrne and sheehan will most likely cement spots that's my call for 2016 ;) Byrne the next Pearce Hanley. .. just saying haha. curnow could play as a third tall straight away and rotate the midfield with cripps how mint would that be! and Graham will not get dropped all year. full stop

Yes I think Bolts may somehow take a liking to Graham

just remember in home & away games, only 5 years ago, weagles in 2010 came last (winning 4 games)
2011 only lost 6 games!
it can happen with the right attitude, lack of injuries & never say die.
not saying we will do this in 2016 but, i think we will scare a lot of teams & increase our win totals significantly.

What I like is how you mentioned Gibbs and grunt in the same sentence LOL

Currently at best we can stick him on a flank until the kids develop. Unfortunately Gibbs has not developed from junior footy when the game intensity goes up he goes missing, when the game is there to be won he goes missing, he lacks heart and love of contested footy, easily the softest blues player I've seen.
Unfortunately our team hasn't been in a position where we have the luxury to utilise his strengths which is to just sit him on the outside and let him play the bruise free footy he desires, hopefully with Cripps, Graham. Murphy, Curnow and Kerridge running through the mids it will allow Gibbs to become a sheepdog, then we may see the best of Bryce

Oh gawd!

Every club enters a new season with renewed hope and expecting to improve on the previous season. What I want from 2016 is to be ultra competitive and show signs that the list is improving as it is being rebuilt properly. I'm not expecting too many wins as we have a long way to go but I just want to be competitive.

oh and to beat the tiggers in round 1 just to see the meltdown by their supporters would be nice.

Nope, completely different scenarios, especially given the age demographic and qualify of talent we just lost.

I hate saying this, but dollars to donuts 2016 will be pretty much like Alan Richardson's first at St Kilda.

Just look at it as a development/growth year, any wins along the way is a bonus. But (and i really don't like this term) its really all about 'the process'

6 wins next season is what we should realistically hope for.

I can't stress enough the dangers of thinking that this new baby blues outfit will click right away, its just not that easy. Unfortunately.
