Lets not write off 2016

Loving the optimism but the elephant in the room is the forward line.

We need to be able to kick some goals if we are going to win some games.

Are people still that doomy and gloomy thinking we won't win a game next year? Another spoon?

4 top 20 kids won't make a lick of difference?

5 players developed in the AFL system who have something to prove won't make a lick of difference?

A year where we actually aren't decimated by injury for once won't make an iota of difference?

I know i have been pissed off with a lot of what has happened this year but people think it will be worse next year??

It's still good! It's still good!

Pardon the intrusion.

I'm not here to troll at all, just to offer up my experience with where you're at.

Tigers were in a very similar position to you guys going into 2010, new coach coming from Hawks, a mass exodus of experience, and an incredibly young list seemingly full of holes.

And in the first 9 weeks, we got hammered from pillar to post, and couldn't get close to winning a game.

But eventually, at some point, the boys got sick of losing, and sick of being called worse than Fitzroy, and started really digging in. We pushed the Hawks in Round 8 that year, and then finally in Round 10, we broke through and had a win against Port, and that breakthrough win really set the standard for the remainder of 2010.

We ended up basically splitting the season from that point (won 5 lost 7) and discovered a few gems in Riewoldt and Martin.

To be honest, your list as it stands is probably in a worse position than what we were in 2010, at least on paper, so it's gonna be a really hard first couple of months for you guys in 2016. But having an ultra-positive coach like Bolton will help, and as long as you are willing to put in the hard yards, you'll be back sooner than probably some people expect.

Just gotta make sure you absolutely nail these 4 picks in the Top 20 this year.

I think most supporters would accept a modest win/loss ratio if they can see some signs that the list is on the right track. Massive opportunity for players to show some leadership and cement a spot in the team. All these young kids should be desperate to show what they're made of.

Like this season I'll either not watch the games or I'll be drunk watching them.

It will be even more unbearable really. Say what you want about Yarran and Menzel but they were good players to watch when they could get the ball.

It's going to be a very long few years as a Carlton fan. If we fail with our draft picks, it would be the most brutal blow I've felt as a Carlton fan and I've already copped some fairly big ones as a younger fan.

I wouldnt write off 2016 and heres why...

*The players we have traded/delisted/retired. Gave us nothing, with the exception of Judd/Bell.
*Thomas missed the whole season. Gibbs, Kruezer large chunks of it.
* New coach, new approach
* We should attract genuine quality at 1,8,11,19 with a real youthfull exuberance
What about Carrots? And Ellard might not have been the most talented player out there, he always gave 100% for the jumper!

Not yet. We need "foundation" type players. Real footballers that run all day and go in hard and give 110%. Whilst I agree wholeheartedly that every team needs X-factor-type players, I believe that we aren't at the stage where we require them. Clubs such as Richmond and North DESPERATELY need them. Clubs such as us, at Year Zero, don't require them. Yet.

Fair call.

Although St Kilda took Billings, who is a clever half forward with neat skills.

I actually think we're stacked for inside mids with Cripps, Graham, Kerridge and Holman coming through.

Some high-level outside players who can accumulate would be fantastic.

Those saying there are others in the comp with a worse list than us are seriously living in lala land.

We are going to be horrendous this year, will lose routinely by 100+ points especially when our young side has to travel interstate. We will sneak a couple of wins along the way when thers have an off game but we will finish last. And collect another spoon and another #1 draft pick...

The thing i like about this is that Bolton, Silvagni and most importantly LoGuidice are fully aware of this, 2016 will be the year we bottom out but we are putting together the pieces for our next premiership side and for the first time in a long time appear united in the direction of our once great club.

To be honest, I hated watching Yarran this year. He lost some toe, wasn't taking on the opposition the way he had done in previous years, and when he did make a run, you could not be sure he'd hit a target. In fact, I'd go as far as saying I've never seem him miss more targets than he did this year. Perhaps this was was just his poor attitude on display, but he didn't seem fit enough and I can only hope he takes this high standard to Richmond.

We've taken the medicine and now have to allow it to take effect.
The club, to their credit, have stuck to their word................so far.

2016 can be exciting but only if the players we do have, give the best of themselves.
It's somewhat sad that we'd allowed Henderson, Garlett, Yarran, Lucas, McInnes fall into the IDGAF category.........that doesn't work well for team unity.

Really looking forward to watching the following players in particular; Byrne, Jaksch, Boekhorst, Sheehan, Graham and Holman.
All have the tools (varied tools) to make best 22 next year.

Next we have the known 'unknowns' in; DVR, Smith, Foster, Plowman, Sumner & Lamb
And then we have the unknown unknowns; Weitering (not quite unknown) #8, #11, #19 along with SOS (very unknown :))

They'll make a difference. Eventually. We have to remember they are just kids and they will unfairly have a lot of expectations on them. We must be patient and give them time.

The 5 developed players we have gained, haven't really set the world on fire just yet, hopefully the GWS boys get over their injuries and play a full season.

Remember we have lost: Judd, Carrazzo, Menzel, Henderson, Yarran and Bell. Unfortunately in the short term, losing these players will more than cancel out what we've gained. But in the long term, we should be able to reap the rewards of drafting top talent, we've just got to get our picks right this time.

Jack showed his talent and ability as a forward kicking 6 goals for Vic Metro. I've got no doubt he was told to "tone it down a little" after gaining some slight media attention over that performance...

We are bottom 4 no doubt.

But that's ok if we are attacking the draft which we are.

Anyone talking up Daisy please don't the decision to recruit him has been a disaster he hasn't had an injury free year for about 5 years and his best is way past him.

Hopefully if the kids come on he will struggle to get a game that's when we know we are making progress

I think the midfield will more than hold its own, at least until it gets exhausted when the ball comes flying back (rebound) out of the non-existant forward line, kinda like what we saw this year.

The likes of Cripps, Murph and Gibbs alone give the opposition something to worry about but there is also a decent support cast building as well. The defense isn't the worst around and talent will be coming through, but it could be under heavy siege. We need to keep this in mind.

Hopefully we can engineer ways to kick some goals. Reckon Levi could be in for a big year though.

Been said here many times over...............Thomas was all good to go in 2015, but that 1st minute of the season ruined the fun.

It WAS NOT his fault, nor his bodies fault for the injury. Blame whatever else you want but it had nothing to do with his body.

Toned it down to the point he injured his shoulder......or did he? :)

I like the way he moves and he clearly has some smarts about him.
Don't usually care for F/S's but this one I really want. He has just something about him that will add beyond just his on-field attributes.

Sorry you lost me he didn't play last year cause he was injured but the reason he didn't play had nothing to do with his body?

Clearly the reason he didn't play was because of his body. Im not blaming him but when you have missed 4 seasons straight like he has im just saying his best is now behind him and not to expect much from him
