With another season almost at an end, we can now make further judgements on this cursed draft pick.

Last 10 years.

1998 : Murray Vance (delisted by Carlton)
1999 : Damian Cupido (delisted by Essendon)
2000 : Dylan Smith (delisted by Nth Melb)
2001 : Ashley Sampi (delisted by West Coast)
2002 : Steven Salopek (dropped by Port and trying to get back in the team via the SANFL)
2003 : Kepler Bradley (struggling at Fremantle)
2004 : Tom Williams (going ok at Bulldogs but is generally a much maligned player by the Bulldogs supporters)
2005 : Beau Dowler (finding it hard to get a game even with the Hawks having lots of injuries to KPP's.
2006 : Mitch Thorp (always injured but hasn't really set the football world on fire when available either)
2007 : David Myers (see Mitch Thorp)
2008 : Chris Yarran (poor work ethic and off field issues haven't exactly made for a great debut year.)

At this stage you would not be wanting to finish 12th as that would get you pick 6 (assuming Melbourne don't lose another game).

compare that to the pick following it, number 7, and it makes for some interesting reading, as highlighted on Footy Classified last night...

2004 - Jordan Lewis
2005 - Paddy Ryder
2006 - Joel Selwood
2007 - Rhys Palmer
2008 - Daniel Rich

really seems to have been the case since 2004, but clubs drafting at pick 6 have really made some blues, given what has followed at pick 7...

I'm a bit worried that the eagles will keep winning and steal our precious pick 7. The last thing we want is 6 again given our history with it.

No curse unless you're a troll and/or an insecure Bombers fan...

There isn't a curse unless you're a troll or an insecure Essendon supporter.

Or both.

Approx. half of the pick fives are hacks or good to very good players.

Former pick sevens in Tenace, Roach, Angwin and Hale are awful.

Isn't Palmer a hack who can't kick and use the ball?

Pick ten will have you reaching for the razor blades.

At least pick 10 had McPharlin, Nathan Brown and Dangerfield.

Pick 6 has been rubbish overall but I think the point has gone over your head.

Crows fans have high hopes for Phil Davis as well - but after 12 months it's way too early to tell. All the signs so far have been good though.

Yeah, definately think there are more hacks in pick 6 than other picks on that table.

Had no idea McDougall was pick 5. That's crazy talk

The success/failure of each pick seems to run in trends, funnily enough..

Look at pick #8 - Bolton, Corey, Motlop & Bartel in successive years.. then it turns to s**t.

Other than Pavlich, pick #4 seemed pretty cursed for a while too - but the last 4 years have produced Kennedy, Leunberger, Morton & Hartlett, while all of a sudden Ray and Tambling are starting to show a little.

After extended runs of crapness, I reckon picks 6 and 10 are both starting to turn.

p.s. Get a load of the duds from 2000!!

Gez I had no idea Pettifer was an early pick, that makes it even worse. I always had the impression he was just a numpty rookie upgrade.

Pick 3 is a decent pick, some of the guys have just taken longer to come on (Didak, Sylvia, Ellis to extent who was very slight/in yr.12). If Lachie Hansen comes on it ends up being a very good pick after 1999.

Pick 6 would bring nightmares, Salopek and Williams are the only two you would even consider.

Bit of an insult that Salopek is mentioned in this, he is head and shoulders above everyone on that list.

It all depends how long Yarran spends 'developing' at Carlton.

Kennedy was only there for 2 years and it has taken the best part of another 2 years to see some positive signs from him.

He actually showed very positive signs last year too, but had his season cut short by injury. The scary thing is he's only 21.

This thread just really makes me feel sorry for Richmond.

WAS head and shoulders abover everyone, has had a horrible year so far and has gone downhill.

so 1 year in what 7?

He has had a few injuries, his team has struggled, he is played out of position (backlines) and he struggles, and he's useless now?
