Now is the perfect chance to see these lads on the field for Port.
Put them on the field, and see what the field of battle does for them

(Yes Virginia, there is a Santa Claus)

I know Scott Bassett has had a few niggly injuries in the past couple of years, but I wonder why Port don't give him a decent go. Even when he's been in the 22 he spends most of his time picking splinters out his bum. I could understand him being very frustrated. Does anyone know if Port tried to trade him at all?

Yes I would like to see Ackland get a run. Lets test the potential. However this game is fairly important as Williams needs to keep the momentum up following Ladey. Plus we have never beaten North. I wonder what he has planned for CHF this week ?
Think Bassets injuries have been more than niggling. He showed in that Sydney game that he is worth keeping so I think nurse him along for a bit longer. If we see his best I think we are going to be happy.
Not sure if Thurstans is ready yet. He hasn't done anything special in the trials and a full year of SANFL will toughen him up for the future.

It took more than two years for Thurstans to debut from the time this thread was started and he ended up playing in a premiership. There is hope yet.

In the time he was drafted to his debut he could've completed an undergrad, done an honours and embarked upon a masters.

It truly was a football apprenticeship.

We drafted Toby Thurstans at pick #39 in 1998 and he started playing in the Sturt U19s in 1999 and he played in a Sturt SANFL Premiership in 2002. Toby made his AFL debut for the Power in 2003.

When ever I hear Johnathan Thurstan of the North Queensland Cowboys mentioned in the NRL a think of Toby. Cannot think why.
