Used to drink Carlton Draughts religiously. After I had a night on Carlton Dry, I haven't looked back since. Carlton Dry is my beer of choice.

Not into craft beers, think most of them taste gross.
Don't mind a Corona with lime in the summertime.

The price of a slab of beer is getting too high. Nearly $60 for a slab unless I can find it on special. That sin tax needs to go.

About $47 for vb. Beautiful craft beer

I'm tired of talking Coronavirus so let's talk beer. I'm in San Francisco and I want to know which Australian craft beers I should be drinking. Hit me up!

Northern California has such an abundance of amazing beer. Spend a bit of time there (I have a partnership in a Cider company just east of SF (Hemly Cider if you want to try)) most of which was spent drinking beer and cider.
Went to the Berkeley Bowl West and bought 100 random cans last year and there were very few disappointments and around 10 that were mind blowing good.

What quantity is a slab?

Asahi Black, probably too strong for most of you hardnuts but I drink it like it’s going out of style with minimal side effects.

Makes economic sense to always buy a slab here. I lived in the Scotland so I know the culture there can be more to just buy what you need for that day/night and the price doesn’t change that much if you buy in bulk (from memory).

Take Furphy as an example at Dan Murphy’s:
$46.95 per case of 24
$19.49 per pack of 6

Just doesn’t make any sense to ever only buy 6 beers.

You're right, over here bulk buying only works out slightly cheaper than buying single packs of four or six. That's a huge price difference in your example., and the slabs seem like excellent value. A case of 24 would be around £1 per bottle in sterling - cheaper than a soft drink!

At the moment at the supermarket you can only get 2 containers of refrigerated milk per person per day.

At Dan Murphy’s you can only get 3 slabs of beer per person per day.

Considering switching the kids over from milk to beer to reduce the number of shopping trips.

Aussie blokes will be panic buying.

Best I've enjoyed: Trash Panda Hazy IPA on tap
Weirdest: Dopplebock (I think it was this one) that was 13% and tasted like liquid molasses. Tried a mates Lavender Sour, good thing it was his and not mine.
Here, don't mind Crankshaft or Akasha.

Does Australia have any Wet Hop beers when in season?

I only buy slabs for parties or barbies etc. You look like a drunk buying cases of beer.

The Doppelbocks are strong so sounds right. Shouldn't be molasses though, a darker beer though. This is the best Doppelbock. Was made by monks originally. I'm not a huge German beer fan but this was one of my favourites there.

Yes, we have great craft beer in Northern California and San Francisco has great breweries within the city. We're very lucky.

You could wear dark glasses and a novelty hat to the bottle shop?

There have been times though when I have bought a slab instead of 6 to save money overall and ended up drinking 12 that night instead of 6. So financially no better off and twice as hungover the next day.

Sierra Nevada was the original craft brew that started the craze.

A
As an employee at dan murphys I can confirm. Some dude came in 3 days a row with his wife to buy 18 slabs of tooheys extra dry 30 packs...

I remember trying to drink tooheys when they sponsored us. The Toohey's Old that you could get in NSW pubs was okay but it is pretty crap beer overall.

My best buy recently

I spotted the Aldi Christmas Beer Advent Calendar which retailed at $59.99 before Christmas discounted to $19.99 in late January.

They had 4 on the shelf so I bought them all and the nice lady at the checkout told me there were another 2 out the back. So I bought them as well!!!

124 beers of the world for $120!!!!

I infrequently buy 6 beers to give a new variety a try, happy to pay a little bit extra initially to try something different.

There's a whole lot of beers on this thread that I've never tried, and not going to bars anymore, won't get the opportunity to try whilst I am out.

So am happy to spend $18-20 to try something & not be committed to a slab of it if I don't enjoy it.

But you're right otherwise, don't buy your fav beer by the 6 pack.
