35K breakeven is bullsh1t!

Taking out the Big 4 VIC teams, who all benefit from pumping up each other’s figures with multiple Showdown-esque fixtures per year, only the Eagles, Crows and Dockers average over 35K.

We’re averaging 34K this year.

Everyone else i.e. 10 teams including the likes of Hawthorn and Geelong are below that.

And we can’t make any money.

Farce.
Its a bullshit figure because it doesn't mean anything on its own.

If 35,000 members and corporate ticket holders turned up and not 1 single person purchased a ticket at the gate or at Ticketek then the equation is

35,000 x $2.40 attendance fee paid by SMA = $84,000 - Match Day costs which nobody ever reveals.

If 35,000 turn up and 5,000 have purchased tickets at the gate and at Ticketek and lets say the average price across all seat categories and adult/concession/ juniors is $30, then the equation is

35,000 x $2.40 attendance fee paid by SMA = $84,000
+ 5,000 x $30 = $150,000 so total inflow is $234,000
Less
Match Day costs which nobody ever reveals.
+ Ticketek service fee on those 5,000 tickets

So saying 35,000 is break even is meaningless by itself.

The game makes money because effectively 1/11th of membership fees and 1/11th of corporate box income + other revenue streams for the match like functions, advertising, signage etc are part of the total equation.

Question, who would be employed to maintain the accommodation? Is this going to be more expenses out of our pocket?

We might be able to get assistance to build it but I doubt government will cover the cleaning lady.

The kids have to pay rent. No different compared to if they moved from APY lands to study and had to pay rent to a private home owner. Where do they get that money from? Work part time? Scholarship? Government assistance via Abstudy and similar programs? That covers cash inflow.

Cash outflow by the PCL you know, employ cleaners, maintenance staff like anyone else who owns accomodation property. Not that hard to do. If they don't want to do that, they outsource it to someone and pay them a fee from the rent monies they receive.

"... our SANFL season finished last week in playing Norwood. Today we played Port Power reserves. .." - Roy Laird.

That's the same Roy Laird whose club Central Districts never won a flag until three years after the SNAFL competition was well and truly compromised by the SNAFL forcing the PAFC to form the PAMFC.

The sooner the PAFC reserves are playing in a national AFL reserves comp and the SNAFL is left to fold the better.

What a sook and dick head. Glad we destroyed them in his real retirement game.

Suck a dick Laird. If not for 'Port Power' having some ambition and graduating from that tinpot league to give someone else a chance to win a few flags for a change, nobody would know who you are. And even now nobody outside of South Australia knows who you are.

Choco speaks as if he Wengerlutionised the league but I love it, the opposite of that arrogance is the meekness we have too much of
Fake it til you make it.

Confidence begets confidence.

If you don't believe in yourself, no one will.

For all his faults Choco's mentality was PAFC. Bull chested, pig headed, brash, confident. He's also our only AFL premiership coach in 23 years.

I wish we were arrogant arseholes again.

I sometimes muse on what it would have been like if we'd never got an AFL licence - would we be somewhere north of 50 SANFL flags by now, or bemoaning TTFASA's reserves side being loaded up with lads from our Eyre Peninsula zone?

Chris Scott is an arrogant, delusional and all round unlikeable human being. He's also the coach of the second strongest club of the 2010's and could well be on his way to his second flag.

You don't have to be a good bloke to be a great coach. You don't have to be honest. You don't have to be humble. If anything those attitudes are a hindrance.

Unless these qualities improve your ability to get to a flag then they're absolutely a hindrance.

Ken's popular nice guy persona was great when it was honeytrapping Ryder, Dixon et al to the club. But it's clear that overall they are a net negative as these besotted imports become useless pretty trinkets in the incompatible technology which is our team.

Get the fundamentals in order and everything else follows; we are too prone to distraction and trying to be everything to everyone and thus end up doing a little bit of everything poorly.

This is reflected all through our club right now, exhibit A is the change in our slogan.

"We exist to win premierships" was simple. It was clear. It was focused. It underpins all past, current and future success of the club, it underpins our growth from a little old Alberton club to the most successful team in Australia and it underpins making our community proud.

"We exist to win premierships and make our community proud" is a sentence which contains 50% superfluous words, guess which words they are. It is as distracting and hard to follow for our off-field staff as our gameplan is for our players.

First step in any new regime should be getting back to fundamentals and changing this back should be top of the list.

We need a coach whose going to come down on our mentally weak players when they go running to KT or Koch that they had a bad word said to them.

Serious question. Why was the North performance swept under the carpet? It destroyed any finals chance and we had scenarios like a 3-possession game from a guy high in our B&F.

To play like that at a critical juncture, when the previous week's game had been solid, is surely worthy of some introspection? More than just "uh, we dunno power".

That on its own is worthy of an external review.
