i'm a little suprised campbell hasn't got much noise on this board

o.k he didn't get on the ground much, but when he did

what the hell has he been doing for the last couple of years ???

the free kick he gave away was a bit silly, but his tackling was tough his work at the stoppages was awesome - didn't get a great deal of the pill but sure put pressure on.

tooks to have some poise there as well, let down a bit by disposal but heck.

too me looks like a in and under Reilly

for me - Drummond you were on the money with this lad :thumbsu:

Gill did some good things today and looked like someone we can definately work on but some of his missed shots were just awful and really hurt the side at the time they were missed. Neil Craig admitted in his press conference it was something that needed a lot of work so I'm not sure how much it was nerves and rather he just can't kick all thast straight at the big sticks.

Look Gill really was very good.

shame about the kicking, but showed a real talent. also probably showed why he never made it until now. reminds me of an old south forward, called Chris Reynolds (I think that was his name) came over from glenorchy and played one season for us. could mark everything, but it really wasn't uncommon to see a return of 2 goals 10 pts.

Campbell, well he'll be better for the run out.

Sorry but I had Knights worse than Dogga today. He just couldn't get his hands on the ball and what about that disasterous series of passes backwards in the second quarter? We were very lucky to get out of it but overall Knights was the one putting his teammates under more pressure than Dogga was. Thompson also again had a case of the fumbles. :(

Spot on analysis ........as I have said IMO Knights has mentally shot his bolt .....it's just that we can't afford to drop him back OR we want to get games into him by continueing to "teach" him about battling this mental fatigue .......honestly i'm not sure

Yes, Marty you are a legend of the facts... Why do you have to carry on like such a tosser, as there was nothing impolite about my reponse. :thumbsd:

The bottom line is IMO playing a different opponent on Lloyd would not have made any difference. Lloyd kicked most of his goals because of an awesome supply/too much space to move in, not a lack of pressure from Stevens.

What move would you have made? Kenny? He was invaluable to us in the 2nd half. Perrie? Not a natural backman. Bock? He was killing Lucas, who was the matchwinner in round 1. Gill? I don't think so.

Correct ....fact was Craig was bereft of options

Maybe Bock but then you release others .....no....Stevens was as good as any

Not one of your finest posts TJ - you're usually much more rational than that. :)

These 2 boys definitely deserve another crack at it, particularly Gill.

Yep Ive gotta apologize for my outburst....Sorry crow fans for the poor post match summary of two newbies when the emotional tank was overflowing.

Now that Ive settled down...Gilly should get another chance this week but Campbell ....probably not.

OK....so I done a Drummond....please forgive me;)

He ran off Stevens with ease, Stevens provided very little pressure, dont know what game you were watching:rolleyes: It took Stevens until the 3rd quarter until he worked Lloyd out, damage was done:thumbsd:

Unfortunately Gill's kicking display today was more the norm than the exception. He is still worthwhile out at CHF though. His field kicking is actually quite good.

.
So why the difference and if its a technique issue why cant it be fixed?

On here and other threads I have seen this repeated

Bad kick at goal but his field kicking is ok... does that mean we expect players to cover more ground when he kicks...or he hits his targets better?

The point being made was that in one quarter Lloyd kicked 80% of his tally for the day. Stevens and the midfield worked harder and restricted Lloyd to a 20% return

On your analysis Lloyd should have kicked a further 4 goals in the 2nd quarter

I agree in that first quarter we were getting smashed in the middle, if the midfield is dominating like Essendon's was as long as Lloyd could get front spot it was going to hit him on the chest everytime.

The only thing that could happen in that first quarter was for Stevens to play in front, but Stevens is a defender that plays from behind. Once we tightened up in the middle and Lloyd the wasn't getting the silver service deliveries onto his chest Stevens did better. Even if we had Rutten on him and the ball was coming into Lloyd like that he still would have kicked a few on truck.

So obviously then Stevens needed to negate Lloyd better, but he continually ran off Stevens, I counted seven times, it took 1/2 game before it got worked out, damage was done by then.

Lloyd kicked 5 goals in the first half, the damage was done, it took a half of footy before Stevens or our midfeild got ontop, thats the fact, that IMO was a crucial reason we lost, after Lloyd had kicked two the alarm bells should have rang and looked at possibly 'double teamed' Lloyd or have a defender cutting across in front of Lloyd.

I disagree, the damage was done when we missed four sitters in fron of goal.
As it turned out, Lloyds early contribution counted for nought when we took the lead. No one can stop those when a team gets a run on, Truck would have struggled as well.
We are missing the Hound Dog badly to be able to read the ball coming into our backlines and get in front of the leading forward.

So lets get this straight.

1. You accuse me of incorrect facts, when they were correct. Lloyd kicked 4 goals in the 1st term not the second. Hence Mattner was moved as a loose man in defence. Stevens only had 1 goal kicked on him after quarter time.

2. Your opinion on it being Stevens fault against the majority view of this board, causes you to make a comment that I couldn't have been watching the game. Reckon there is black kettle I can hand you.

3. I responded to your suggestion as to what move would you have made. Yet to await coach Marty's view.

Keep digging a hole for yourself.

I tried to give respectful replies to your posts, yet you carry on like a ....

Surely we will give them both more than 1 game. I hope we give them until the end of the season.

We would be stupid to drop them - Campbell did some quality stuff with the few possessions he had and Gill, well, he's got a lot of people talking (I just hope the club can sort out the way he drops the footy onto his boot). I would keep them in and send Mattner back to the SANFL so we can release the Pfeiff.

So Mattner can destroy it in the West reserves side? Sturt has the bye. Mattner will be part of the future. Persist with him. Putting Pfeiff in for him is like robbing Pete to pay for Paul. I'd drop Dogga.
