Not saying this is so, but I can think of at least two interpretations of this cartoon, just of the top of my head. One is, "O.K., we've discovered the black hole. Now what?" The other alternative is that the world is disappearing down its own fundament.

My take is same as OP's in it's political and due to what happened on Thursday, voters are staring down a black hole unsure of what is down it or what is going to come out next.
