I dont know who you ever watched... but if you are saying that Hoops was a pretty ordinary decision maker, then you are sadly mistaken. There was a reason why Fev said that he preferred having Hoops kicking the ball into the forward 50.

If anything, I would get in Hoops to help Lucas with his decision making because I said way back when we recruited him that he would be a replacement for Scotland/Hoops.

Hoops kicking was sensational, which was reflected by Fev's comments. his decision making was terrible particularly by hand and in general play..Out of the back half he used to turn the ball over a fair bit..

Going forward to a lead up target (he always put the ball to advantage) and kicking for goal he was brilliant..

Anyway no point in engaging in a debate he is an ex player, played 200 games in some tough times for the club and we can both agree he had brilliant disposal..

I would introduce something like the Lloyd grass throwing routine in so that he stops thinking about the goal and does something that interrupts the racing thought processes. A relaxation routine... put the ball on the ground, pull up the socks, pick up the ball, grab a handful of grass and throw it in the air.

I think that it is something that he picked up over there... I think that it came about because of his injuries after he went over there.

I dont think that it is a matter of relearning his kicking action, but adjusting it so that he is getting the best out of what he has. He has a monster boot on him. We have seen the footage of him slotting them from anywhere on the 50 in the VFL and there was that 50m snap from the boundary line against the scum last year. If he latches on to one... I can see him sailing it through from 60.

Think you are onto something here. I remember him slotting one from 50 out on the boundary last year. If everything clicks for him, he could become a weapon.

Levi's kicking can be improved in a few hours with a real coach ..someone who understands geometry and some basic physics.

To change his bad kicking Habits will take a bit longer and a session with a decent Psychologist who specializes in Habit breaking behaviors ...Like a Carey Mumford ...

Interesting Harks, quite a few said Rowe ran out of puff in his last senior game. I have reason to doubt this but you are a bit closer to what is really happening than some here. What's your view on Sam's tank/match fitness. He contributed very well when he came but now Levi is grasping his opportunity just like he is grasping his marks.

Alike Casboult, Rowe is being used forward, in the ruck and then in the back-line in the VFL.

That's why I don't care for the result as there is a master plan at work that transcends the win in these games and it's all about development.

I know Webster has to front up and look a bit dour for his team losing but who cares when our AFL listed players will be better off for the experience?

That's exactly why we wanted our team in the first place and the boys haven't adopted a defeatist attitude here but one of happy to learn new tricks and to become a better player for it.

However what this could mean is that one of our two spare rucks will be dispensed with at the end of the year and we will keep the remaining ruck in reserve and go with 2 tall forwards and 1 forward/ruck who rotates with the playing ruck.

We could also look for another rookie tall forward to work on while we are finishing off developing Mitchell to take over from Waite.

* Experienced as in they have 1-2 years left in their career while we finish off the development work on Watson and McCarthy.

Sounds good Dram. I think this has more long term pay off than trying to convert our ruck men into KPFs. There is a lot of upside if we patiently develop Levi and Sam, and go hard for a KPD. Well thought through.

The biggest upshot of it all... is that if we get in a 30 year old KP defender (same age as Waite) for a couple of years... we can put a couple more years unpressured development into the likes of Watson, Mitchell and McCarthy and by the time that Waite and the defender retire in a couple of years, we will Jamo assuming the senior role with Watson AND/OR McCarthy stepping into the second best defender role and up front, you will have Henderson AND/OR Rowe as the senior forward with Mitchell as the second tall forward with Casboult playing that roaming tall forward/second ruck role.

That way... we get a very good spine going forward of:
Jamison
Watson/McCarthy
Kreuzer (Casboult)
Henderson (Casboult)
Mitchell

This would also give us the option of, if McCarthy is as versatile as people say, swapping Henderson and McCarthy as required.

Who wouldnt be happy with a spine like that?

And in a couple of years, we could end up with a defence of:

Tuohy, Jamison, McCarthy
Armfield, Watson, Temay

Garlett, Henderson, Menzel
