Toast Levi Casboult

His 4 goals on the weekend after some towering marks says hi...

And just for the sake of argument... his 41.14 in his TAC year says that he wasnt that shabby at kicking for goal back then.
Older player in TAC? Monster vs the lads. Goals close to the sticks? No pressure. Hard to gauge just on stats alone but I do remember around draft time that kicking must have been a strength....

surprised me to hear that he was a soccer player and late to AFL. (Mick's presser)
Thats what I have heard before... but I thought that the person talking about it was getting Hampson and Casboult mixed up. I dont think that there was anything on the Bolts bio on Blueseum about soccer.

Casboult is a perfect example of why Carlton is and has been a mediocre team for so many years. We recruited another player who cannot kick. How does a player get through years of junior footy the so called rigorous Under 18 system with such an appalling kicking style? How do recruiters ignore his kicking? We have Kreuzer to come back and we cannot carry three big men. None of these players have succeeded in the forward line despite many attempts. Before everyone goes on about Casboult's marking what is his biggest return of goals? We have to make a hard call at some stage with this list and hanging onto players who after 4 years still cannot kick, and is at best an average player.
People like you would have traded Hawkins at 23 or 24. Beyond ridiculous.

Just to calm a few nervous puppies in this thread, I don't think anyone is ADVOCATING trading Cas.

The chat is more along the lines of 'He is uncontracted and showing some serious talent. There will surely be some other teams sniffing at year's end'.

That is all

/anxiety

ps - assessing his new contract worth is tough. Obviously it depends on what he delivers over rest of year. But at his best he is something to build a forward line around. At his worst he is not even best 22. You'd hate to pay top dollar only to see him lose confidence/revert to OOB every second shot. But you'd hate to offer him peanuts and see him walk. I think logic will prevail and we will pay him something that recognises his variable output (accuracy). Possibly a short contract (2 years) so he can use that opportunity to show he can step up his game and demand a real serious contract next time.

Base payments + $AU10,000 per goal; incentive that Levi wins the Coleman Medal.

Brilliant thinking. It basically ensures that Levi gets what he deserves (assuming we play him when he deserves to be in the team).

I'm probably over-analysing your suggestion, but that's possibly a little generous. Base salary plus 22 matches is something like $150k. So a 40-goal season would = $550k. 70 goals = $850k. Prob a little overs, although not ridiculous. Each of those would respectively deserve 'good' and 'fantastic' remuneration.

Such a formula could prove quite expensive. But given none of our forwards had kicked 20 goals by the half way mark of the season, I think our salary cap is safe. ;)

If Levi has a 40 goal season, it means delivery to our forwards has drastically improved. Meaning we've given our midfield the massive overhaul it needs to be able to hit him on the chest inside 50 5 times a game. Fix that and we're on an upward path to the finals! :)

He's better than Crameri in my view and Crameri is on what, $450k? Levi should be offered around the half mil. That sort of coin is chump change for clubs nowadays.

Seems to me he's one of the hardest working guys at the club. You want to keep that sort around.

Love Levi, but let's get real. He has played 26 games and kicked 22 goals*.

Pay him half a mil and that's the sort of list management that leads to wooden spoons (IMHO)

* Stats skewed by the fact that he is getting better and has spent some time in ruck, KPFs take time, yada yada

Casboult is a very handy player that plenty of clubs that would like right now.

Given he's more than handy in the ruck gives him an edge over many.
Would love to see Levi become proficient with his hands. That may just be the missing link in his armoury. He'll never be a great kick. So what?

Any wonder we are one game from the bottom of the ladder and been beaten by the likes of Melbourne, Brisbane and Richmond. If we lose to GWS this week then we should just give it away and get behind the Uni Blues in the Ammos. Looks like they will win the flag in B Grade.

Why dont YOU just give it away? I might give it away when my club decides to systematically dope its players or decides they will try and cheat the salary cap again. Not because we are beginning to be rewarded by showing some faith in a young player.

Sounds like you've already given it away a while back.

Probably for the best, really. The club doesn't need supporters who revel in it's failures.

Id wait to see how he goes more consistantly before deciding his contract.
If his showing against the Hawks is a one off, then his value wont be so high.
Remember him putting in a big effort against the Scum in late 2012, but then disappearing for ages after that.

It wouldn't surprise me if we've already contacted him on Saturday and offered him more $$$

$500k is still a decent chunk of money to be shelling out to someone who is only now cementing a spot in the side.
