Toast Levi Casboult

Casboult has worked his arse off for years as the lone fiddle in front of the ball. He's worked on his kicking, his general play, his rucking; he's as fit as he can be, as good as he'll ever be. He'll never be a great of the game, but I really do wonder how he'd have been remembered had he played in front of a deep and talented midfield his entire career instead of us in our lowest ever ebb.

Enough maudlin talk, well played Cas. Go back and do it again every chance you get.

I've said it many times....a 40 goal a year fwd in the Hawks side of the past decade.

I think there’s a place in this team for Cas. Heart of a Lion ( skills of a giraffe, in front of goal). Get him up the ground though and he shows his wares as good as most other bigs in the league. Crashes packs, still one of the Top 10 marks in the league, or brings it to ground. When he doesn’t have to kick with the increased pressure of scoring goals, he’s actually quite adept by foot. Big tank and pretty mobile for a big man, and damn strong. I’d play him as our 2nd ruck, swapping with Kruz deep in the forward line.

Let's not forget he started out as a late-ish (?) pick baby-faced rookie too.

He'll never be perfect but I'd say he's well and truly progressed further than a hell of a lot of other players who came from where he did. I've always liked the big lug though. Can be bloody frustrating on his day but at the same time you can never fault his endeavour and commitment.

They had a chance but didn’t take it. If he keeps up last weeks performance few clubs may want him.

I've been critical of Cas over the last year or so.

But credit to him, had a really good game vs Dogs and has been decent this year. Small sample though.

Nailing those 2 goals from 50m was top shelf against the Dogs and that's the difference...3 goals plus his other work is a damaging performance. If he had missed and kicked 1.3 then not so.

We've been getting more of the latter than the former over his career but if he's truly improved him goal kicking he is an asset and will definitely be picked up by another team if we don't keep him.

sorry, gatorade - I got to the stage where I just threw my hands up in despair and declared it didn't matter whether he clunked his marks - he just missed too many shots at goal - usually a fan will jump for joy when a big forward plucks a grab inside 50 - with levi we stayed in our seats and covered our faces - on saying that - what a great game by the big lug!
Despair. Thats it.
I could never get mad with Levi though because it was as if there was a disease through our club and team and he was just the most obvious symptom. Lets hope it's cured.

I think what is happening ( slowly) is that every player at Carlton is likely to play better as every other player develops and improves around them. Levi has always been a better kick from further out than close in - he has the putting yips hard coded into his brain - but relaxes and kicks smoother from further out. His tee to green game is just fine. I wish he had just a tad more footy smarts and knew how to rub out a defender each game - shame that all that muscle isn't used to its full potential.:moustache:

Well there's a new tactic :fire::fire:

i have defended "Cas" for years, and will continue to do so.
He was never going to be a an Elite forward, Ala "Harry Mckay" more at best a 2nd/3rd tall option in the forward line.

Before all the fun starts I think we should all acknowledge what a fantastic effort it's taken for a player like Levi to get to 100 games.

And guys there's no point being angry at Levi. By now we know what he does and that these games are inevitable.
Yep, been far from our worst, will be among the first blamed for the result.

Low hanging fruit. Just a couple of weeks ago, Levi had a blinder.

We are undermanned and down on experience. It has a domino effect on the whole team.

Plenty of players worse then Casboult today. He missed a set shot he shouldn’t have and costs us a goal with a terrible kick but there were definitely worse then him today. Sad but true.
That kick back into the defensive 50 where north marked it and kicked a gaol and his miss from 25 meters out a few minutes later sums him up.
