What do you mean "for those in the know"?

You couldn't possibly be suggesting that any posters on BigFooty know more than WH and the Carlton recruiting staff......

For those that matter it was Casboult. Panos is largely irrelevant.
If you can subsist without the challenging of opinion, you're not really exisiting at all.

Anyhow if I wanted to speak to Hughesy I would've just called him. I want the BF perspective.

Casboult's a much bigger boy and a few more strings to his bow....contested marking is a strength and doens't mind the physical stuff. Panos pretty much a lead, mark and kick player and doesn't really have the size or physicality to be a real presence. At 198cm Casboult probably tests about the same as Panos athletically and could also pinch hit in the ruck or handle forward line ruck duties.
Definately prefer this 'sort-of' tall player this late in the drafting process. He won't get found out as easy, supposedly being of 'less quality' than other players, if he is versatile and robust. Definately prefer someone better rounded. Only 8 or so months different in age, or thereabouts.

In a weak draft these guys got passed-on, what, 140 times? The smart option would've been to hedge our bets, I guess.
And a Carlton supporter - what more could we've asked for?

For those in the know...

Casboult or Panos?

Interesting that (IIRC) Panos was as early as second round for some in the ND phantoms. And Carlton had the choice of either.

Casboult. On TC in the Rohan Kerr footage a member posted (it's on YouTube) Casboult features several times. Each time he impressed me more than Kerr who was impressive in that highlight reel.

Looks to be a very good kid who can do some ruck work while the ball's in the forward line -- the type that Sticks, Kouta, Spalding and Whitnall used to occasionally fill in and do.

Like the pickup immensely. I said so when I saw the Kerr footage. Glad we picked him up.

Theres flaws. He needs to get fitter as Splendini said. His lateral movement could improve and his field kicking is average. However he's a fairly decent shot for goal.

Well if his field kicking needs work he is at the right club as our coaching staff has improved our sides field kicking big time in the last 12 months. His goal kicking seems top rate with 41goals, 14 behinds for the year, and the numbers look good if he did play a lot of time in the ruck. A full season at FF could produce something special, fingers crossed, knock on wood.

Levi is defnitely a ready-made superstar and the answer to all our prayers as a KPF. Which only makes it a tad surprising he was overlooked entirely in the National Draft and for 44 more picks in the rookie draft.

Sshhhhhhh... It was a given all along that we'd draft the best KPF this year this late in the rookie draft. Surprisingly Collingwood didn't bitch and moan about it when they got Luke Ball.

Nothing special. He just has good genes

Not to be rude at all, but I was a bit worried that not all of that is muscle. Doesn't come from the leanest of families (again trying not to be rude) but a full preseason into the boy and he will be a force

Racist:p
Nahh it is a serious concern. Does anyone have any photos of him?

Casboult is wearing Eddie Betts' pants in that photo.

Levi is a big boy.

I don't like the way he's eyeing that cake.

Needs to shed that puppy fat that Kennedy and Yarran had when they arrived at Carlton.

Look at how ripped JK is this pre-season.

I don't mind Carlton drafting big men who are 103 kgs.

At least you know how fast they will be when they're carrying the weight they'll need to play at the highest level. Skinny kids such as Jake Carlisle for example might slow down terribly once they add another 20 kgs to their frame.

By the looks of that photo, Casboult has some upside with his body shape and fitness.

Now that's he in a professional AFL envionment, you'd have to think that his skin folds will improve. I know, barracking for Carlton, and then being drafted by them, you'd do anything to improve your chances to playing senior footy.
You'd have to think so, but the names Stevens, Whitnall and Cloke are just too recent for me to mark this down as a given.

Depends on his motivation to "make it".:thumbsu:

Of those that have seen him play, were you surprised to see him slip to third round rookie? Seems like for a tall guy with upside a late second or third round pick in a "shallow" pool might have been more the go?

I'd want to see him drop 7-8 kg's pretty quick or the running to get some of the puppy fat off will blow him up.......Ask Lance what its like trying to get fit with excess baggage and a dodgy knee.
