The most valuable string to Levi's bow is his ability to pinch hit in the ruck.

I only watched the game on TV but looked to me like Casboult more than held is own in the ruck. Has good spring and strength and that knack of reading the flight of the ball and getting a hand to it first.

I think that he played as a forward ruck in the TAC so it's a good option we have if we are running short on ruckmen in the future.

Pretty much exactly as I see our 2013 team. This is how I have it at the moment:

B:Jamison -- Watson -- Duigan
HB:Laidler -- Henderson -- Yarran
C:Gibbs -- Judd -- Simpson
R:Murphy -- Kreuzer -- Carrazzo
HF:Garlett -- Mitchell -- Waite
F:Walker --Casboult -- Betts
Int:Robinson -- McLean -- Bell --Scotland
Emg: Hampson --Tuohy -- Armfield

Rotating keys to structure are Mitchell, Armfield, Hampson and Waite. Multitude of forward/ruck structures available based on the selection and positioning of these four players and our opposition match ups.
can't argue with that...my only quesion mark is on mitchell will he make seniors next year??
For a quicker forward line i'd swap armfield for mitchell and have waite playing chf with army playing a defensive role in the forward line.

No wonder we recruited Levi....supported Carlton as a kid....

Carrots and Levi... both supported the club they are now playing for...

Must have killed Carrots when he first got picked up as a rookie by the Geebungs

That's one hell of a moving story. So our triple premiership coach, Jack Worrall, was poached by the Bombers who then went on to win back to back flags under him in 1911/12? Absolutely never knew. Challis seems to have played and been liked along the lines of a Lenny Hayes, Robert Harvey or Kouta. Could you imagine posters around the ground pre-game advising the death of any player let alone such a well loved champion? Hatred of the enemy must have built rapidly under those circumstances and understandably so.

Hilarious line: "in a voice like that of the man who has swallowed the claw of his crayfish in the boozers' express at midnight".
And how's this for eloquent and generous praise from an opposition coach:
"Carlton simply wiped the floor with Essendon," wrote Worrall, the vanquished coach. "Challis was the best performer on the ground, excelling in every department, the ease and grace of his movements exciting universal admiration. He was the fastest man on the ground, and his beautiful, accurate passing while going at his top was marvellous."
Would love to see a George Challis Award at the CFC or maybe even here at BF. A poster who goes about his/her work in the right spirit, someone admired, someone who adds to the board on several, positive levels.

Not sure what the future may hold for players but must say it's been fun to date, having three cult heroes unveiled in the one year.

For one reason or another Casboult, Bell and Bootsma have had quite a lot spoken about them considering their relatively short period on the big stage, whilst McInnes is quietly just getting the job done in the background.
Reckon the Carlton staff are noticing Andy Mac though, got the feeling from Ratts in a couple of his pressers he's really pleased with him.

Just don't know about this bloke. Can take a grab but I cringe every time he has a shot at goal. How much work have we put into him? 3 years?? If hammer, Mitchell, Waite and Rowe were fit is this guy even close to a look in? I question whether it's worth having a bloke who can clunk it but can't get it through the big ones.

It is unfair to say we have put 3 years into Levi when he has missed a significant amount of football due to injury in that time. It is very hard to achieve much with a player if he lacks continuity on the training track due to injury.

Levi's an unpolished diamond, not unexpectedly so given he was a rookie. Who can say whether he'll play 50 or 100 games?

I'm sure the bulldogs or demons would gladly take him if Cloke, Rowe and Mitchell limit his zing.

its not like we recruited levi off the street
clearly been playing footy for a time
should know where to kick the ball.

gem no doubt though

Just need Walker to show Cas how to improve his set shots over the off-season. He should probably teach the rest of the club while he's at it too

I watched his ball drop and how he was kicking the ball tonight... looks like the ball drop was spot on tonight... because tonight, instead of slicing it from right to left, he was starting right and it went straight off the boot. No slice to it at all.

So someone at the club has been working on his ball drop this week and it looks like it worked.

Kicking is dodgy but he is hardly alone...

I'm still on the Levi bandwagon, there's a lot to work with.

You're exactly right.
We haven't put three years into Levi with him being fully fit. He spent a big chunk of last year out with his PCL injury and spent the majority of this year out with his 2nd PCL injury.
When he returned from his injury last year, it took him a while to get his goal kicking back on target, and I'm seeing the same thing happen this year. He's shown that he can kick a bag. 5 in the prelim final last year in the VFL. He seemed to have lost the confidence in his goal kicking ability since returning from injury this year, (he's looking to pass it off to someone else).
There's a lot to like about Levi. Okay he's kicking for goals off, but his ruck work is improving, he can take giant pack marks which is what we need.
He'll work on his goal kicking over the pre-season. If he can stay fully fit, he will come back next year a more confident goal kicker and hopefully everything will click and he can be that strong powerful forward we've all been screaming out for.

Would have Levi in the starting 22 before Hammer in round 1 2013.
Just sayin'.
I would pick our best 22 which was Hampson backing up Kreuzer in the ruck. Casboult has a lot of work to do before he overtakes Warnock and Hampson as the back up ruckman.

If the pre-season goes to plan, we might see Watson at CHB and forward. Then we'll have Kreuzer, Hampson, Waite and Henderson keeping Casboult of the side as forward or forward/rucks.
